Hey guys, I just picked up a 1998 SRX 700 and have some questions. I have been told it has a Bender cold air intake, Bender can, Bender helix and some clutching...This being said, I am new to these sleds and know nothing about them. The sled has a brand new motor in it top to bottom and is not even broken in yet. Questions are as follows...Is this setup good for all around riding/trail riding? Would you guys change anything? How much horsepower do you estimate I am running with this setup? What should jetting be? What should I do to properly break in the new motor? Any advice and or help would be awesome. I am coming off of an Indy 500! That sled is moving to the wife now! I will post some pictures for you to check out. Thanks in advance, Mike

Thats too bad...the 98's were all JUNK! JUST KIDDING! Good looking sled. Factory specs can be found in tech pages and some how to's as well. Jetting is gonna vary quite a bit Clip positon and jets are usually changed when piped. Most pipes and cans loose power on the srx as it was already tripled from factory.

Yeap, bender can and cold air kit. Helix also, but won't know angle without pert number. Primary spring and weights?? Wait to run it before you change it. Might b a good setup. Clean carbs and powervalves. Where in mi r u.

just at a glance. it looks like the previous owner definitley played with the cluching in the primary and secondary witch would be your biggest gain as long as they set it up right, it should be a ripper. the can dont reallly do much, just a sound preference. these sleds dont need much to really shine. clutching helps the most with these sleds as far as minor modding... unless u get into motor mods like porting big bore etc.

my first srx had the cold air kit and I cant remember now what jetting was but it was up quite a bit from stock. I'd check to see what the jetting is at. especially since you said it has a new engine top to bottom. there was a reason for that.

btw welcome to the site. there is tons of great info on here from members to help you accomplish anything you want to do to your srx. wether it be maintenience or performance.

The reason was because he ran it out of oil!

The only numbers I see on the helix are on the front and are 6 9 0 3

and as far as hp goes you should be around 140ish give or take. and as far as clutching you will have to run it... the target rpm you will be looking for is around 8500rpm with minimal belt slippage which you can check for by how much your primary / secondary clutches heat up between runs.. the name of the game is getting that power to the ground.

Also Is it normal to have a small amount of play with the secondary clutch? It seems to have 1/8" max play back and forth on the shaft...If not do I just add a washer?

the 6,9,0,3, represent your twist rates on the 2ndary spring there are other numbers on the 2ndary clutch itself that should say 1, 2, and 3, that will coincide with the twist angles on the helix say your spring is in the #1 hole on the clutch itself and #6 hole on helix. add the 2 numbers together and you would get 7 now times by 10. hence you would be running a 70 degree twist on your edit. 2nday spring. the numbers you would be looking for will prolay be hand etched into the helix mabey on the back side would look kinda like this 49/37 or 50/40 etc those numbers with tell you your angle rates of the helix

that play is normal.. its so the belt can somewhat self adjust and align itself

bender helix's usually have a bender #, like, 9970 or 9960, or something like that. Engraved in the backside of helix. Prob have to remove it to see the #'s. then cross reference in the tech corner thread. Any ?'s or need local parts, u can contact me, or there is a few locals with a lot of parts & knowledge. Not as much as me of course . lol

For break in what do you guys recommend? I have heard people say to premix a little bit on top of the injector? Anything special? I just want to make sure I dont do anything that is going to blow it up...It was built by a mechanic though so he should have known what he was doing. This may be my new favorite forum! You guys are on top of it!
