who needs a clutch alignment tool when you got a machete, cable ties, and c clamps! Belt exploded at WOT last night and EXPLODED! braaaaaaaaBOOOMCLANKCLANKCLANKSNAPBZZZZZZZZZZ

yep.my speedo cable and belt are buried somewhere from when that happened to me on my 600..lol..but I was using an after market friggin belt also..

Question for you. I have the same sled - 97 SX 700. Do you know, or can you tell me, if your 2ndary clutch has any freeplay? I can move mine about a 1/4 to 1/2" and I don't think that's right.
I have an awful grinding noise somewhere that I'm trying to diagnose.

Yes, the secondary should have some free play in it, not a 1/2" though, more like just under a 1/4". Check bearings for the grinding, chain case & drive axle.

^^^yep just a little free play. What belt are you running? if its the cheap max2 belt then thats your problem. had to get a cheap belt yesterday and my god! sounds like a j.a.k.e brake when decelerating, Where the yamaha/dayco belt just makes a slight buzz thats almost unnoticable
