Grass drags??

I never made it out last winter do to horrible conditions around here for Ice. Most of the races got cancelled. I have been tossing around the idea of running some grass drags. What should I do to set up the sled for grass drags. Skid?? skis?? Track will probably be my ice speed track but I am thinking I need to pull the picks out and put chisels in? how many chisels?
What kinda jetting should i go with? for say 80-90 degree weather? I'm thinking my 500' clutch and gear setup for Ice should be pretty good for 500' grass?

yes on the chisels, how many, not sure. but it will help the tuners get you close if you post what the sled is and any mods. you probably wont pull as much clutch weight on grass as you can on ice.
 
Not all circuits have trail stock.thats a great place for beginners becasue you cant run speed tracks.Its more competitivwe for beginners.A lot of people jump into the stock class and get discouraged when they get beat by a 500 with there srx.If you decide to run the stock class there is always speed tracks for sale on amsnow

I have a speed track already. what do you do to setup the skid for grass? do you add more bogey wheels? what to reduce heat and friction?

Yes I use wahl bros wheels.Hi Perfomance engineering sells them to.I put about 4 sets in.I use the tripple wheel set.Remove your slides also.
Unthread your front springs all the way and put a strap from boldt to boldt 12" long to suck up the travel.You will have to drill a new hole hole in your limiter stap so its tighter then stock and suck the limter straps all the way up.
Then you will have to chain down the rear suspension.the best way is to jack the front end of the sled up and you will be able to squat the rear easy with someone puching down on the bumper.

Run 127.5 main jets
50 pilot jets
fuel screw 2 turns out
needles stock
.5 air jets

20-39 gearing.
The clutching I don't want to give out.

Remember the chasis set up is just important as your clutching.

Also remove your thermostat and run all water.Take a a collor and mount a bildge pump inside.You can get quick disconect couplers from Hi performance engineering also.You will need two sets one on the sled and one for the cooler.You will neeed a power source for the pump.I like using a jumper pac.
I usually put my couplers on the hose coming off the bottom of the coolant tank.

so pretty much you don't want ANY travel in the rear suspension? as for your jetting what temp and humidity range is that a starting point for?

as for your cooler that sounds like a pretty simple setup.

You want about 2" of suspension front and rear.Around 220 chisels.
I ran that jetting from about 50-80 degrees.Above 80 I ran 125 mains with the stock airbox.Run the track fairly tight to keep it from ratcheting.I ran about a 5400 engagment.

Tony knock it off....you should know better. Any guy who travels to and from the race track with his sled hanging out the back of his station wagon doesnt have room for a cool down cart. ---Mac---
 
Guys enough with the jabs.He knowa he needs a cool down but he wa looking for a starting point on jetting but instead got harrased about a cool down.

THANK YOU!! 3:16 and me have never seemed to see eye to eye. I guess I just don't like the way he comes across. I know he knows his stuff just wish he would either respond nicely or not at all. If somebody asks for advice either give it to him or don't say anything at all.
I had another question for ya somebody has a "grass drag track" as he called it for sale. It is basically just a .5 lug track with chisels but it doesn't have any clips in it?? Is there a reason for that?

ok sounds good. I have a place to start and can go from there.
 
They make a windowless speed track for weight reasons.You can also stud the closed windows buthave to move the tunnel protectors and heat exchanger protectors.
 
HEY SRX700GUY, ARE YOU RUNNING AT BACK YARD EVENTS , OR HEYDAYS/ PRO CIRCURIT, OR CLUB EVENTS ? I MEAN YOU MIGHT WANT TO SEE IF THESE PLACES USE ISR RULES. YOU CAN TAKE ALOT OF SET-UPS AND THATS FINE, BUT TO TAKE A COMPLETELY STOCK SRX TO A BIG RACE TODAY, ITS A TUFF NUT. NO MATTER WHAT SET-UP YOU USE. I RUN A ISR STOCK 2000 SRX, SLEDS ARE FASTER THAN EVER. AND KNOW I DID NOT HARASS YOU ON THE KART, MY POINT WAS GET ONE BUILT FOR ALL THE TESTING YOU WILL NEED TO DO.
