I agree...
The questions should only be answered by you. Do you think they are cool? I dont think a mod'ed ploaris is very cool but I can appreciate the man (or woman) that has the passion to do it. I do know that a viper as a first sled will make you a$$ pucker the first time you get on it.

i would have bought a viper when i bought my war if i could have found one as i love how they handle and feel with just the clutching done. brother has an 02 and i love to swap out and ride it on the trails. dad has the 05 venture viper and now that we have the clutching done, it is a pleasure to drive other than the track sucks in powder.
heck the 2010 jan ty ride i did the whole ride on my brothers viper as the sx500r was too hard on gas for the milage we where running.

First time I saw my Viper I knew I had to have it. Fell in love with it instantly! As soon as I slung a leg over it.....done deal (after I checked it out REAL good of course). I guess if you don't feel that way when you look at it, it may not be the sled for you. One word for the Viper. Smmoooooth.............
Oh yeah?!!!!....my 335 Olympique can take my Viper in 10 ft! so there.......lol!!

I sold my mountain max to get a modded viper from a friend, triple pipes vaira flow in the air box reeds spacers etc, but when i first tried it i knew i wasnt getting any other sled, she was savage! it was 136 at the time, it was done up for 660ft racing but i now got a 144 16 wide 2 inch challenger and a rs venture suspesnion to go on it, with a set of rs venture drop plates you will be suprised on what they can do, like people were saying, do a bit of clutching and she will still be really good

vipers are cool.
but i would bet that there are waaaay more broke down, blown center cylinder, rebuilt vipers out there than four stroke apex's. and the apex WILL spank that viper! http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=591815#mikkkey said:You will be left behind until the 4 stroker breaks and they have to spend thousands of dollars to get it fixed.

that would likely be because yamaha sold more vipers then apexs, the viper was the hottest selling sled for yamaha.
lets match the power evenly with just a set of triple pipes on a stock viper against your apex, we can take dibs on who will win with 150hp each and almost a 100lbs lighter?

Viper will be an awesome first sled. Yes other sleds are faster and they always be some one faster. My guess for your first sled it may be too fast. I ride a 98 700 single pipe and it is fast enough for me. Buy it and enjoy it.

Depending on what type of contest we're talking, I just might have to place a bet on that. Hardpack over 1000 ft and I'm in. As long as its my apex.

Ok Dave, this is getting way off topic but I will prove my point. Lets just look at the current nssr series records, this way we all know the sleds are in top notch shape and properly set up! As that has more to do with any win/lose of any race then most anything else. As everyone knows proper set up is the key to winning.
the current record for a stock apex in 1000ft is 109mph
the current trail stock record for the baby srx 600 is 108mph
the current record for the little srx700 is 114.8,almost 115mph
I personally know a few of these guys running this circuit and alot of the other 700's are well into 112-113mph alot of the times. Granted, the record is well... a record but its still indictive of what 140hp vs 150hp and a 100lb weight differance will result in, and this racing is 0-1000ft. Apex is still 3-4mph slower.
The viper with triples is another 10hp higher then a srx, they make 150hp where as a stock srx has 140hp, the long travel of the viper in plain world field/lake racing not lowered down will hurt it slightly but another 10hp will overcome that.
I have a couple little whimpy vipers here, 1 with a single, 1 with triples and a 2000ft long smooth bean field to play in. If we get some snow, come on over and we can test em out!

Don ur right we're getting off topic. But since you've thrown it out there I guess I'll respond. As far as the records and the racing circuit goes, you would know far more about that than me since I do not follow that in anyway. I am into snowmobiling strictly for the recreational/trail enjoyment.
Just let me say this; the srx/viper triples have been around for well over ten years. Its fair to say that the people that do race/tune them figured out long ago what makes them run strong and have them setup to the n'th degree. The apex has been out for considerably less time and obviously has less "race" development. There may still be some performance left on the table for those who do race them.
In my statement I wasn't implying a race quality viper setup vs a trail setup apex. I was implying a "good" trail setup triple piped viper vs a "good trail setup apex. Just as u might find when racing a buddy on the trail. Several years back I raced a stock piped viper (I think you know the person) on my old mxz 670 in deep powder and took 2 out of 3 drag races. That rider was also at least 50lbs lighter than me as well. Know granted a triple piped viper is much faster than a single piped viper. But my apex is also much faster than my old 670.
As far as the weight thing, clearly the apex is heavier than the viper. I don't know bout the 100 lbs that ur claiming. 50-75lbs would seem more realistic to me.
Lastly, hopefully when (not if) we get some snow, give me a call. Like I said, just might have to take ya up on that. BTW, before ya think I'm doubting ur skills or knowledge, I recommend ur services to all the locals that need some work done. I think I have already sent ya some business.

Its all good Dave, no intent or confrontation meant in my post. Robby F's viper is 110% bone stock right down to the clutch parts, your skidoo certainly wasnt untouched.
When we get some snow I will drop ya a call, come over and play with these little wimpy vipers. My daughters viper has the stock pipe w/ a little clutching and the other viper has triple pipes, w/ a little clutching/set up. They are both trail sleds, not race sleds. We can see what happens.
I dont hate apexs or rx1's or nytros either, its just they are not the bullets people make them out to be, and dont "smoke the srx" or viper with a set of pipes(actually a sx700 with pipes and clutch work is a real contender as well) until you add juice or boost to the 4 stroke, then look out... they ARE just stupid fast!
think snow comrad.............
now back to if vipers are still cool, sorry guys for the off topic.
I will post a couple pics of my little black viper soon.

Sounds good Don. I'm always up for a little friendly competion. Maybe just to make it interesting we'll have to line em up for a brewski or 2.

sorry
@mr viper. i wasnt saying vipers arent fast. in fact dollar vs. mph a viper is a hell of a sled. BUT compared to a new four stroke they ARE unreiliable. you say put some tripple pipes on it, but without the handfull of other mods, you are sure to be on the end of a tow rope! not to mention the terrible gas mileage. i do agree with ya on the sx700, i have an 01 and wouldnt trade it for two vipers.
