Are Vipers still cool?

The Viper has a great sound. As well as the Red Head's. I for one don't like the sound of newer 4 strokes. I would like to find a 2004 Viper, but I like "Yamaha Blue", not red. Al

I tried not to comment but here goes:
Stock engine, Pioneer shock valving, a few studs and the right wear bars....
On groomed trails (the real kind, with turns) the right rider can extract abundant joy from this machine. Some of that joy will come at the expense of the top heavy ride forward machines, 2 and 4, stroke that you left far behind while laughing/screaming in your helmet. Some of that joy will come from the the smell in your clothes.
And, if you have a packed long lake, and you are patient, the top end of this ride will slowly sneak past your initial plateau and surprise you.

so your saying 98 srx with a 137hp whips up on a triple piped viper with a general(most all triple pipes add 25-30hp to this engine) 150hp engine ??
possibly sounds like the viper isnt set up too well with clutching and overall then, a lighter sled with more hp is hard to beat in just clutching in a srx. A piped viper will walk a srx from start to finish if its got as good of a prep in it as the srx has, just simple mathmatics, lighter sled with more hp!

single pipe viper with some basic clutching and chassis set up can put up 112mph on radar.... not too shabby.

Are you saying that the piped viper actually has 150 hp? 13 hp more than the srx? Sounds like alot, with the same cc and both have triple pipes. I know that the viper is ported differently, but still.

yep, a viper with a set of triple pipes and jetted correctly makes right about 150hp, most all of the viper aftermarket pipes are close to this mark. I found the cpr pipes seem to get there the quickest and are a great pipe(my personal favorites). A srx only makes 140hp stock. Its the vipers improved porting on the cylinders, slightly more compression and more ignition timing that allow it to make more hp then the srx does.

granted, we are talking about a stock srx, you can surely get more hp from one, same with a viper. The biggest advantage of the srx over the viper is the stock pipes only sip fuel where as the aftermarket ones on the viper drink it by the gallon, bit if you wanna play your gonna pay......

s10mike, no worries, I didnt take your post as offensive. I am all good with everyone. ;)!

just trying to keep the comparison as close to apples to apples as we can, anytime you say a 150hp sled can beat a 120hp sled, well, ya, it should.....

just even up the hp output to close to the same and results can/mostly/always change.

sorry to drag this off topic a few times. :o|

Ride safe guys!!!!! :2strokes: :2strokes: :2strokes: :2strokes: :wel:

yesir! bluehead, blackhead, and redhead yami's all get it pretty good. my choice out of the three would be a 01 SXR700, bone stock. good track and good clutching. 20,000 mile, damn fast sled! vipers looks are by far the best though! mrviper700, your not partial to them snakes, are ya? maybe just a little? haha all in fun! have a good one!!

Viper will be an awesome first sled. Yes other sleds are faster and they always be some one faster. My guess for your first sled it may be too fast. I ride a 98 700 single pipe and it is fast enough for me. Buy it and enjoy it.
Dont let the too fast part scare u away my 16 yr old rides an 03 viper and has been since hes 12 just know ur limits its a great dependable sled .

no not really partial, I just am fully aware of there potential. They can be nasty little snakes with the right add ons and real GIANT killers if it all works together! :letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow

I;m convinced vipers aren't cool... They're F****** Awesome! This viper rides just as good as an apex, and spanks them in 800 ft: Fact.

+ 1. thanks

Now I want my Viper back!!! Just traded it in for an Apex Se. I loved my Viper, it was my very first sled. Scared the crap out of me at first, but I learned how to ride. I traded it in because 1.) I got a heck of a deal on an Apex, and 2.) Even with all the help on this forum, I'm not the type to be fixing sleds. It was due for an engine rebuild/ power valves, and the rear suspension was shot. Wiring harness also had rub thru. Re directed it and never had another issue, but there is still obviously wire rub somewhere waiting to sneak up. And track was in need of replacement. In all honesty, the only thing wrong with my viper was a poor owner :( and the one before me....
