It appears that the sled I bought is in fact a 1994, not a 1996 like the previous owner told me or like the registration stated and here's my dilemma. I was swapping out my track and removed the chaincase and input shaft to find that the splines on the input shaft and the jackshaft are long since fatigued and in need of replacement. What all is needed to swap in the newer(95-96) jackshaft? My sled already has the '95+ secondary on it. I'm growing tired of finding all the little half assed things that were done to this to just get it down the trail.
I really need some help on this one. If i have to buy a whole chaincase and secondary shaft I will but It would be awesome if you guys came back and said the single piece shaft works in place of the 2 piece.
Please HELP!!

Vmax right---- You can swap out to a newer 1 piece jackshaft, if you do you will go from 2 piece jacksaft to one. You will need to swap chain case and axle also. Other option is to go onto vmax 4 forum and Vmaxmike has used and even a new two piece jackshaft for sale. just depends how much work you want to put into it. the one piece jack shaft is a nice upgrade......

Alright, after reading a ton and actually going through the parts fiche it looks like everything on the input shaft side for both the 94 and 96 jackshafts is the same, bearings seals and all. So what would stop me from just using the jackshaft from the '96 and properlly shimming the secondary clutch? I understand most people would change the chain case as well as the drive but dont feel like wasting a ton of time and money. Is it worth re-gearing the sled as well? I don't want to lose a ton of top end though.

Nuthin stoppin you. Plug and play. The trick is to find the 1 piece shaft. It needs to come off a 95 -96 Vmax 500 or 600. Sleds with reverse may be different. I may have one but I'm thinking not. Will check and see. If I do I'll let you know.

Found a like new one on eBay for roughly $40 shipped. May just pick that up. Gotta make sure the bearing mounts are the same as well.opsled said:Nuthin stoppin you. Plug and play. yeah, motor and hull IDs match the registration card, it makes sense why my WI registration had it listed as a '95 and IL had it listed as a '96. Since there's no official title to these or Certificate or Origin like the newer sleds have my guess is that they just sort of went with what people told them as far and how old/new the sleds are. The DNR just has to make sure the ID's match the registration card. I also know the second owner of this sled and he purchased it from the first owner who was going through a divorce.Devilin AblueDress! said:Not related to jack shaft but does the VIN on that registration match the VIN on the tunnel?

My 2000 SRX is registered as a 99. when I went to register it I told the woman its a 2000 but when she entered the vin the computer says its a 99. I said, "I dont know what to tell you its a 2000". She said, "as far as the state of Maine is concerned it's a 99". lol
