I cleaned my carbs today. Unbelivable the junk that was in them. Jelly junk everywhere and the gas was flouresent yellow! I blew throught the tank with the fuel lines off to move fuel through the lines before I hooked them back up but the center cylinder carb. pilot jet still got plugged up. once again I had to take the airbox and carbs out. :o| <only running on two cylinders after trying to start for first time> Pulled carbs out and checked center cylinder carb and sure enough pilot was plugged tight. I have some pics of what Im talking about that I will add shortly. I cant believe how bad the gas is these days. Pretty sucky that every year we have to take the time to clean carbs. I know its not a huge job but more of a pain. It would be nice to just put gas in the plug holes to prime carbs and just be ready to ride.

What about running stabil in the spring thru the carbs and then running the carbs out of gas while fogging them? Here in Canada, our premium fuel isn't as crappy as yours (yet).

stabil doesnt do it for the summer soak. I run it during the winter to help if the sled sits a couple weeks but I still had the tapioca balls this year. first time I've had them. the fuel just seems to be getting worse all the time here. I'll do the ATF fog this spring and see how that goes.

yep, seems fitting to me, we pay $4 a gallon for it and its less quality, just like everything else, the dollar is half of what it used to be.........good post! ;)!

Most of us came to this conclusion already. I am thinking about adding a ball valve to turn gas off like the POO's come with factory, mabye even a 3 way, on,off, drain type. That way I can add atf or sea foam/stabil then close valve letting sled run out of gas as I pour the fogging oil to it. I will still plan on tearing into carbs for a look see anyways. Once you have done it a few times it seems pretty silly to just HOPE they are clean enough......and then BURN DOWN!

Ditto on this being the first year Ive seen jelly in my carbs. I remember a few years back you guys out midwest were talkin about but I guess we finially got this junk out here in the northeast. In one of the pics you can see what looks like earwax that I scrapped out of the plastic washer with a screwdriver. Nice stuff. Must of been some of that in that center carb pilot jet circut that I didnt get all the way out the first cleaning. Live and learn.

I always siphon out the gas in my tank. I give it to my neighbor and he uses it to cut my lawn. Less waste.

I still clean my carbs, and air box every year. My neighbor said if I changed the plugs he thought it would run ok. When I pulled the carbs anyway, I found that the one of the oil lines I replaced only 2 years before had broken. I have a Bender direct oiling system, but it wasn't it's fault. The lines had been replaced with the trash they sell at the local sled shop. Could have been a costly mistake. This time it'll be the thick black line.

I never have issues but also don't try and save gas. I pump the tank and run the carbs drywhile fogging.

I really think that May be the ticket. We will have to see. I will try in the spring for sure and then in the fall see how clean they are. I bet It would make a big difference. I cant believe how yellow the fuel turns. It almost looks like antifreeze. Nasty stuff.

Ciphon gastank at the end of season and clean carbs at the beginning. It takes less than an hour and will make your whole season a lot more painless!

what he said, but also drain carbs while fogging..run them dry.

Same here, clean them at the beginning of every year before firing my sleds up. Really love my pipes and the added HP. But with the price of gas, I'm seriously thinking of taking them off. I'm really wondering if it is worth riding period, with what it costs to haul the sleds to even the closest spot and the gas it takes to run the sleds. And with the direction our country going, it ain't gonna get better anytime soon.

Yeah I hear Ya. Kinda depressing.

I have been cleaning the carbs on all my sleds at least once (and sometimes twice) for several years now. If that silicone-like gel crap isn't present, there is always a funky colored, usually green or yellow film in the floatbowls. Makes me wonder what the fuel system on my injected sleds looks like. :o|

I think I'm gonna try that new fuel additive that Yamaha is selling to see if it helps.

Like some others have mentioned, I have gotten into the habbit of draining as completely as practical all of the remaining gas in the system on my sleds and bikes. This year gonna try putting some non-ethanol gas and stabilizer in at the end of the season and run it through the system and c how that works. :dunno:

I store my sleds in the off season with Avgas. Run it for a while and get in the system. My carbs look nice in the spring compared to anytime I have let the current crap pump gas sit in the system.

I really wonder if the gas is different between Canada and the US? I use a shot of gas stabilizer in my tank in the spring and have never had a problem.
I know Canadian premium fuel has no ethanol in it, so that's a definite benefit, but we also pay a premium for fuel....

In my opinion the ethanol is the root of the EVIL in todays fuel down here. Read a few articles on ethanol common theme being not good for anything in older engines, Fine for newer engines that has ethanol blend fuels in mind when they were built. We have an E free pump but its only regular unleaded. Thought about running that and add some octane booster, but than after watching that pump (actaully kept track of the meter on it) Can help but think I am better off running fresher premium with ethanol.

You know i told you guys a hundred times.. I know about this stuff.. TRANS FLUID.. WHat's the problem??? Don't you believe me????

You can also fill your carbs up with RACING FUEl.. VP 113... It evaporates quickly, but a LOT of you guys RUN the sled ONCE A MONTH ( why i can't figure out).. The RACING FUEl will NOT turn into jelly like (oxygenated) today's fuel does.... Dudes,,,, You wouldn't believe what I know about fuels !!!
