Carbs need to be cleaned every year now! No exceptions.

There's MOST ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS..... I've given you TWO scenarios.. BOTH WORK WELL ..... Although i do NOT recommend starting your sled up ONCE A MONTH....

You know i told you guys a hundred times.. I know about this stuff.. TRANS FLUID.. WHat's the problem??? Don't you believe me????

I've done it the last two seasons, and works GREAT! No carb cleaning needed and I use junky spark plugs so I do not ruin the iridiums . ;)!

nosboy is right! ATF fogs the sled real nice! I will say that if you can run non-oxy that's the way to go during the season. I clean my carbs every year just to be on the safe side and have yet to see the kind of junk you guys in other states are finding. It's been this way here for so long I always wonder why I go through the hassle of carb cleaning every year, but I still do it because I know It's cheaper to clean the carbs then it is to rebuild the motor... When I can't get non-oxy I do run the ethanol crap, but here in Minnesota we've been running ethanol in everything but Premium (and in the metro area even premium has ethanol) for so long the problem seems to have eliminated itself. I know guys (here in Minnesota) that have NEVER cleaned their carbs or use stabil and have NEVER had a problem.

I just cleaned my carbs tonight and they were spotless. I used Startron when I put it away and its the best they have looked by a mile! I also put this stuff in my snowblower and its the quickest its ever started. Regular Stabil has been ok for me, but nothing like this.

Im sold on the startron too. Use in in the chain saws and trimmer also!

I've did the trans fluid also in 4 sleds and all carbs were spotless

I will be doing it again next spring

I've always put a shot of Startron AND marine Stabil in the tank and fill it to the brim at the end of the season, fog it, then clean the carbs the next season and change out the fuel in the tank...Put the old fuel in the wife's car

Ya last 2 season's same thing jelly in carbs and only 1 cylinder running untill the primarys kick in. I use premium and I seafoam every batch. I Just need to do the trans fluid thing. I need to put a 3 way drian cock like sugested before so I can shut off and then hook up a tube for the trans fluid.

End of season I drain my tank as much as I can and then add a little lucas ethanol treatment. I run it till it's all used up from filter thru pump and bowls and fog at the very end with the choke keeping it going.

When I go back to them in the late fall I remove spark plugs and fuel lines @ the carbs. Then I add about a gallon and a half race fuel and my compression tester. I yank on the cord to suck up the race fuel and flush the lines and pump while getting my compression #'s. Then I hook the fuel lines back up and fill the float bowls. Then put the plugs back in and it fires right up with no pilot jet issues.

The race fuel stays in there until I am ready to ride and then I top off with premium and add some more lucas ethanol treatment. Three years this way and no more problems. I took off the carbs the last two years to check and they were perfectly clean.

Prior to that I tried all the fuel treatments and none of them worked. I still had antifreeze looking jelly in the bowls and pilots and bits of fuel line in the pre filter behind the float needle from that crap gas sitting in there all 9 months that I just get to look at my sled instead of using it. :2strokes: still

I really wonder if the gas is different between Canada and the US? I use a shot of gas stabilizer in my tank in the spring and have never had a problem.
I know Canadian premium fuel has no ethanol in it, so that's a definite benefit, but we also pay a premium for fuel....

That's all ive ever done to my bike, mowers and other equipment and ive never had a problem. Stab-bil and premium shell gas for me! Never owned a 2 stroke before except for my trimmers and blowers, so we'll see how the "toy 2 stroke" works for me. I always mix sta-bil and gas to recommended ratio, and fill tanks to the very top so theres not much room for moisture to get in. And that's all I do. Havent worked up enough confidence for the carb on my bike or the sled yet!

I Got this srx in January, picked it up from the seller, filled it with fresh fuel and a can of seafoam and went straight to the trails, unfortunately it was the last night we had enough snow to ride in my area so it sat... Waiting for snow, I got so busy on a stock car project I never fogged or anything else. My uncle swears the seafoam does the trick in all 5 of his sleds so I trusted it and let it sit with that 1/4 tank all summer. Pulled carbs last night. They're immaculate inside. Not a spec of jelly or discoloration Internally, the carbs look factory new. Pilots clear as well as the mains, all passages clear. Cleaned carbs for peace of mind but the seafoam seemed to really work good. I don't think I'd ever trust it to just rip the cord and go with the first snow, I'll still do the ritual cleaning. But seems that it will make it more of a mere inspection hopefully. Seems many don't like the seafoam, I just thought I'd share my experience.

I'm glad I tore into it... Whoever worked on it last didn't have the air box boots tight on two carbs, basically not even connected, and a lot of loose Hardware. I think I'll dig deeper and make sure all is well.

Stabil doesn't keep the gas from evaporating from the carb bowls, leaving a dried gunk difficult to scrape

My only issue with Seafoam is that is takes the oil film and protection off of the internals and that is not a good idea to leave for storage after applying seafoam.

If I buy a can of seafoam on sale at Farm and Fleet for 6.50 and get about 12 ounces,,, I can ALSO go to Home depot and get a gallon of ************** for the same price,,,,,, and it will do the SAME THING as SEAFOAM......

Went to use sled today. No go. Was basically running on 1 cylinder. I eventually got 2 cylinders going but just not running right. boggy. So I started this thread on 11-22-12. In 5 weeks the fuel has gone bad again. I should have drained fuel from last year. I added about 4 gallons of fresh fuel but it must not have been enough for dilution. Pretty frustrated. I will get gas at a different store next time as well. I did add startron when I added the gas as well. Gave up on sled tonite. Spent time trimming lugs on track, changed out a leaky shocked and replaced choke cable only to run into sled not running right. I was hoping I had the choke cable too tight but loosened her all the way still no luck there. Im not getting gas plain and simple. Plugs r dry. Can't wait to pull carbs tomorrow after work. I ll let u guys no how I make out.

What 22 months can do to your carbs if they are not serviced properly...... I have never before saw the likes of a fine saw dust substance in carbs. I am  ! ! !

Now just imagine if those VMAX 540 carbs had little top hat filter screens under the float needle/seat[like the VMAX4s, Red Head tripples, Viper, and SRX carbs do] how clogged/restricted they could be!
