Please help this longtime board member pick a new sled.. non yammy

I have been banging my head the past two weeks on my new sled decision. I have decided to stop here and get epinions as this board has been great over the years to me... I still love my 2000 sxr 700 and will still ride her(only 2300 miles) but I want to get a new sled for first time...I would love to stay with Yamaha but cant afford the crazy high prices on the 2012 or 2013 models... I have narrowed my choices down to three sleds... really two as the 2012 mxz 600 etec kind of scares me with all that electronics in motor.. so the two that I narrowed it down to are a 2012 Polaris rush pro r 600 or a 2012 A.C F1100 LXR.... both are same price at $8500.00... I do know the rush is a 2 cycle and the cat is a 4 cycle... as many of you probably know by a lot of my threads im not a very handy person... took me two years to finally tackle the carbs in my sxr.. im looking for a sled that will hopefully last me for years to come with as little maintence as possible... I don't plan on trading it in.. does anyone have experience with either of these machines? I ride in the southern Adirondacks in NY... 99% of my rides are trail riding.. I am no speed demon nor a mogul jumper.. I will on occasion ride on narrow windy bumpy trails... but for most part im a strictly trail rider.. cost of upkeep and ride is also a big deal for me... I don't want to shell out tons for gas nor on yearly maintence, in fact I would love to just do the work myself.. I like the idea of the 4 stroke because I hear you don't have to tear them apart at 5000 miles where as the POO 2 stroke will have to come apart to have pistons done at some point.. but the rush pro r suspension looks sweet, just not sure if overkill for trail riding or for my teenage daughter when she wants to ride some...... anyways thanks for reading....
 
Do yourself a favor and buy a used 4 stroke Yammie instead of buying new junk from another.

$8500 will get you way more in a used Yamaha that you will get new some where else.

20,000 mile sleds. Easy...

If I were you I would get the poo over the cat. better ride, proven cleanfire engine, easier to work on, lighter, etc...

wont the poo have to be tore down in a few years wheras the 4 stroke in the cat run forever with just oil changes? dumb question, I know, I don't know much about this
 
$8500 will buy a damn nice slightly used 4 stroke yammie! Brand new last year models around here are in the high 9K range. Anything other than that I would say 4 stroke for sure....just think of all the money you will save NOT buying injection oil!
 
Out of the Polaris or Cat, it'd be Polaris. I heard the Cat's had a lot of issues with the 12s
 
i must say that polaris has an amazing suspension in comparison to anything else out there i have ridden.... my friend has a switchback 600 pro r with the walker evans adjustable dampening suspension... its the tits. As far as the 4 stroke market yamaha is awesome... find yourself a nice apex uses... yamaha reliability and quality. Cat is still working out alot of issues with their 4 strokes where as yammi has been in the 4 stroke market since the vmax 4 days haha. but if u must pick between a rush and a 1100 cat... the rush hands down is a way more fun sled.
 
I'm going to sat pretty much what everyone else is saying. If you really want new and $8500 is your budget get the Poo. I rode a friend's new 800 rush last year, and I loved the ride, and flippin' the fun lever was a BIG WOW!!! It delivered. But that said. I'd get a used 4-stroke Yammi before I'd settle for anything else. Maybe a Phazer or a Nytro....
 
If I had 8500 to spend, I would try to find a used first year apex with power steering. That sled is amazing on the trail. by what your looking for. the vector ltx would be the sled for you. Great ride, unbelieveable mileage, quiet, lighter, motors last for ever. And, they still have a little bit of wind protection which has gone out of style in the past few years

that's a nice sled betheviper.. I just don't want carbs. I would have to get a newer model...how are the phazers? how do they compare to a rush???
 
For your style of riding, a Phazer wouldnt be a good choice. Its more of a ditchbanger style sled.
Betheviper is on the right track. A newer Vector in the Apex chassis would be a great all purpose sled with awesome comfort and plenty of power for when your feeling froggy!

Used Yamaha all the way. Find an 07 Attak or newer Apex LTX. Can't beat the reliability of the Yamaha 4 strokes. And yes, fuel injection would be great, but carbs on a four stroke are not the same as they are on 2 stroke. Zero maintenance from my own experience. I wouldn't shy away from it is all I'm saying... Good luck in your search! And if you don't buy Yamaha, good luck altogether!
 
As Being A Yamaha Guy Threw And Threw I Would Not Buy A 4 Stroker Again I Hate The Way They Ride And Handle I Will Never Give Up My 700 But The Up Side Is That With Normal Maintenance They Will Run For Ever ...........out Of The Choices I Like The Polaris But Not The Rush I Would Go With A New Indy 600 Looked At Them This Spring And Almost Pulled The Trigger At $7200 But I Am Waiting .......they Have To Come Out With A 136 Version For Next Year ..............for Me I Know What I Get Into Buying Used Sleds And I Am Too Anal Making Everything Perfect So It Costs Me A Arm And A Leg ..........next Sled I Buy Will Be New But I Do Not Trail Ride That Much Right Now To Justify That Kind Of Money On A New Yami .............maybe I Would If I Rode More But I Race Too Much Yet And The Sleds Do Not Get The Miles On Them Anymore
 
So how confused are you now??? Think I would look at the new indy to . Looks like a nice sled for the money. On the other hand the Vectors are way nice to. Should be able to find good used one for that money. Or maybe a leftover for close to that money. STAY AWAY FROM CAT!!!!!! Those things are just plain junk!!! IMO its embarassing that those things are made in America
 
I pulled the trigger on the poo

couldn't go wrong at $8500.00 pre tax...of course after wonderful NY state taxes, new cover, new helmet for daughter that $8500.00 loan turned into a $9700.00 loan..LMAO.... I wanted a new yammy, really did.. problem is I had to finance the full amount.... daughter plays club soccer year round so any little extra I have goes to her soccer so as I wanted a new sled I had to finance it all... I needed to keep the sled price around 8500.00 to get the payment where I can afford, and any new yammy besides the phazer was way too much... I did as last effort find a left over on the showroom floor 2009 nitro rtx with a 3 year warranty and zero miles, wanted $8500.00 for it, but my credit union would only finance 100% book value and the book value on a 2009 nitro came out roughly $7100.00, so I would have had to come up with the difference which with tax would have been about $2000.00 out of pocket... that prevented me from going yammy again.. I almost got a skidoo mxz tnt 600 etec, but something about that etec motor scares me.. I hear a lot of folks wasting bearings sue to the iso flex grease.. I needed a sled that will last me the next 5 years or so while I pay it off... the poo seemed like the best bet... I heard the poo motor is bullet proof almost like my red head triple and it seems its gonna be a blast on the trails... im not sure how to work on these though, took me 2 years to get the guts to clean carbs on my sxr... I understand no carbs in the poo, just ves, whatever that is, not sure how to clean those, maybe someone on this board can help me walk thru it, then just fog the sled(I hear that's a pain in the rush).... hopefully this poo motor will last me... sled stored outdoors but I fog every year..atleast no carbs to clean... ...probably still ride my sxr a ton also.. .she been good to me, wont leave her alone..LOL

After about 5000mi yes, but with a 2 stroke twin your only looking at a couple hundred bucks. And like others have said there was way to many problems with the 12 cats for me to buy one
 
There are many many poo 600's with lots of miles. The poo 600 is the redhead of Polaris. U are going to love the rush. I bought a new switchback last season and it is awesome. After getting used to how it handles, u won't want to ride the sxr again.
 
I will never own another A/C. I owned 07 CF 1000 and had TONS of problems. I may have owned a lemon, but was a nightmare. So IMO the Poo would be better then the A/C. If i had your budget I would find a used Apex.
