2002 SRX No Spark

So last night I was supposed to be starting my sled and checking to see if my wiring is correct on my viper gauge, however i didn't have any spark :o| .

I went over all connections to make sure they were plugging in, I found they were all ok, then I went ahead and started testing components. I tested the spark plug caps, coils, pickup coil and charge coil and they all checked out fine.

I tried with the kill switch unplugged and the key switch unplugged still nothing at all. It ran fine when I summerized it in the spring but it hasn't ran since.

At this point I'm not sure what else I can do and to top it off we are starting to get snow now. If anyone has any suggestions of what I can do I would really appreciate it. Thanks
 
Man that's a pain!
All I can suggest is what I am sure you already know.
It worked before you started working on it and changing guages ect so it has to have something to do with the work that has been completed on the wiring.
I would back up and thoroughly inspect/test any area you have been working on and systematically elliminate the possible causes one at a time.

I've got one kickin around I could send to you to try but I don't think you would get it until after Christmas by mail but maybe the "Hound" could get it to you quicker??

Well I may have done something stupid to cause this issue but I'm not sure.

I was attempting to make my own power valve adjustment harness using that plug on the clutch side so I could set the valves before I started it. However I hooked up a battery and nothing happened, so then I tried doing something real stupid, I switched the polarity on the battery and touched it quick to see what would happen and I got a big spark and thought "crap, that was pretty stupid, hope I didn't wreck anything" :o|:o|:o|:o|:o|:o|:o|:o|:o|.

Anyways I am so pissed at myself for doing that, was it possible that I fried something in the electrical system (like the cdi)?

and yes this is the reason I decided to check spark before even attempting to start.

I really appreciate that Bob, I will definitely take you up on the offer. I just want to verify it's not anything else first. Maybe could try fedex even, I will check to see the cost.

CDIs hate voltage spikes or shorts alot!
If you want to try a different CDI PM me and we can set up a loaner.

If you know someone that has a 2001 SRX or 2002 - 2003 Viper you can plug their CDI in to your 2002 to see if you have spark to elliminate the CDI as a possible problem.

does sound like you probably fried it but it's worth a shot to unplug the entire hood harness to see if it's something in the wiring up there. doubtful but only takes a minute to try.

I thought that as well and already tried it, unfortunately it did not solve the issue.
 
Sorry I didn't see this earlier, I would have let you borrow one of mine. If you need a hand figuring it out pm me and I'll give you my number. I don't mind driving up the road a few minutes, better then working on ski-doo's and cats at home lol
 
Thanks guys, actually northern srx cam over on sunday and brought a cdi with him. We messed around for an hour and a bit but noticed that the cdi was not the problem, the stator is giving power up to and out of the voltage regulator but it does not get to the cdi. We were thinking there may be a short in the system or the stator and or pickup coil may be faulty however both passed resistance tests and seem to give adequate voltage. I will try and dig into the wire harness tomorrow to see if I can find a short or broken wire, any other ideas or tests are welcome.

depends on what scale you use and your multi meter but youd need at least 3-4 volts or the pick up coil is bad, also depends on how fast you pull it over but you get the idea. should show you varying voltage when pulling it over on your meter. if the pick up coil doesnt supply enough voltage to the cdi it wont have spark, this is whats wrong 80% of the time with no spark and the flywheel ISNT rusted. Rusted flywheel... thats usually the problem with a first year start up no spark problem after sitting, the flywheel is rusted and blocks the signal for the pick up coil. :whine:
