Viper powervalve adjustment

Hi guys,

I'm following this tech article on how to adjust them

But i'm still unsure on how to do it, and would like your inputs on me properly adjusting them.

My belt got chewed up so I put a replacement on it.. Dealer said all is good and it's sitting properly and centered.. But since then i can't seem to get it to rev passed 7800-8000rpm.

I had previously attempted to adjust them but prolly got it wrong :( and am guessing that would result to this issue.

So when i loosen the servo cables, then i loosen the 2 allen bolts and pull out the housing.. Do i just loose the 2 bolts abit so that is sandwiches the housing on the allen wrench (2.5mm) How tight should the cables be at the servo?

What kind of shape are your clutches in? There are plenty of threads on powervalve adjustment. Did you try a search? I havn't had to adjust mine yet so i can't help you too much there.
 
First get your servo in the open position and mark it. turn in the adjusters at the servo all the way to loosen the cables. loosen the two allen bolts at the valve so there is just a few threads left holding it in and the spring seperates the housing. insert your 2 2.5mm allen wrenches between the housings close to the bolts you just loosened. turn out the corresponding adjuster at the servo until the housing just touches the 2 allen wrenches. lock down the adjuster. retighten the 2 allen bolts and repeat for the next cable. Be sure to keep an eye on your mark at the servo so that it doesnt move.
 
You mention you remove the 2 bolts and removed the cap... They wil not come off because of the cable still being connected to the valve. If they come off most likely the cable is broken.

The 2 allen keys.. when i remove the 2 allen bolts and separate the spring from housing do the allen keys just hang off the housing until i tighten the cable?

No i meant like loosen the 2 allen bolts. and seperate the housing.. no cables broken.. phew

So after loosening them,, while "helper" is holding the 2 allen wrenches there as i'm tightening the adjuster @ the servo it will sandwich the housing on the wrench right?

yes, but only turn the adjuster out until it just touches the allen keys. If you keep going beyond that it will still turn out but it will start to open the valves and you will be too tight. good luck, once you do it you will see it's quite easy and you will pick up some things to make it easier for you next time. You have cleaned the valves right?

yeah they we're cleaned 1month ago. it's just i had played with the adjustment but i'm pretty positive i did it the wrong way.

Now i see the light and things are much clearer to me thanks to you and others
 
so i tried to follow the steps mentionned. and when i'm turning the adjuster .. nothing is happening.. it's not sandwiching against the powervalve housing.. I took the 2 bolt completly off the housing to make sure everything was ok and i could move the valve open and close without restrictions... so now i'm wondering what the hell to do...
 
Also would one un-adjusted powervalve cause it to not rev passed 8000? I'm guessing that it would.. any help would be appreciated.. I can't afford to get this serviced at a shop :-(
 
Yes i started it and put fullchoke and saw the servo go to the marked lines that were there from previous owner im guesing.. Sled has good torque but feels like no topend .. Im discouraged
 
omg. i had the cables wrapped the wrong way on the servo side they we're looser than a 5 cent hooker. thanks to my gf for realizing this lol.

anyways i'll fix that tomorrow and she should be good..*knock on wood*
