I have just about come to the end of my rope trying to solve a rough running 1998 700 Venture. Here is some background. It starts and idles but does not idle clean and crisp like a triple should, as soon as throttle is applied it starts to run rough and even backfires. I have bypassed the TORS,checked the coils, even bought a new coil and swapped each one out separately, changed plugs and plug cap ends and replaced the stator, checked the reeds, replaced the fuel filter in the tank, gone through the carbs 3 times, pulled apart the fuel pump everything looks okay, inspected the wiring harness and connectors. Compression tests at 130 for each cylinder I probably checked out a couple of other things that just haven't come to my mind yet. Next I am going to replace the needle and seat on the PTO carb as this cylinder is the wet one and I think the cylinder that is the problem. I think it could be fuel related as I have even used those spark testers with the sled on a test stand and there appears to be spark on all cylinders. It is getting frustrating and any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!!
