You all know lately I have been having issues with my PV cables.Got to a point I just want to sell the sled or part out.I am running stock clutching and my rpm's were about 8500 to 8600 on wide open pulls. If rpm dropped..I knew PV cable broke again.. :o| So I have a guy who really wants my motor, but I don't want to pull it out..and there is the wiring to go with it and whatever.Told him I would want $3300 for whole sled or $2400 less skid, track and front Ohlin's.He offered me $2000.I said ok,then for $2000 I will also remove trailing arms, ski's,radius rods and steering arms.He came back with $2400..That is one story.
Now prior to this..I noticed the SRX was getting harder to start.Used to start in 4 to 6 pulls sitting for a week or two in the cold temps.Last week it took 50 friggin pulls..something not right here. Then one night I decided to scrub the clutch faces and put on another belt that was a little newer.Even changed the buttons to new stock ones on the 2ndary.Thought this should really pull now.Boy was I surprised.Motor sounded lame, wot on the river was only 8000 rpm.Now I am pissed and wandered what is going on.Rivets always had 5.5g tip and 4.9 inner. So after trying to reduce weight in the weights by drilling out a little at a time, after like 3 to 4 attempts..rpm wasn't coming up..now really getting pissed.Basically clutching is totally stock like from factory.well from previous years like this..it should be over reving like crazy..I was stumped.I had removed a total of 7 grams and rpm maybe came up to 8100-8200 max.So transfered rollers/weight to my other primary..no change. Switched 2ndary's..no change!! Now you can see why I was ready to dump this sled..Check my cables again, now center PV cable is starting to fray, but is still opening valve..so now after reading a post here of another member not getting his rpm's up either,Mrviper posted to him if the stator is not good, the SRX will not rev up past 8000.Well this is my issue I think.Of course that member switched stator's and his SRX is back to life again.I have a spare stator here as well.I even switched CDI and nothing changed. Now I have ordered 6 spare PV cables used, will be here probably early next week.Gonna get all that set up proper, and then will switch stators, will pull carbs and clean good and even pull reeds and check them.I am jetted up 1 size from stock this year and my plugs are a light color, thought they would be darker. No DCS flashing to this point. Now if the stator does wake her up again..then for the last few seasons..that will explain why I can't get the SRX performing well.If all this works..I may keep the sled,if not.that guy gets the sled for $2400 and I am done with it.There is only so much a guy can do already...maybe time to find something a little newer.
Will post results at a later date..have my doubts for now... #$%&* not a happy camper..

Well

Based on everything I ever read that you post I'd suggest you get somthing new that requires zero maintenance AND LEAVE IT STOCK. I've been around this site for a long time and there was only one other guy I can ever remember who used to have as many problems as you do......I think his name was AUJI700 or somthing like that. First you complain about no snow. Then if it actually does snow it is your clutching or your powervalves or somthing. It's just never ending. Never seen anything like it. Sorry.....couldn't help myself this time. :hide:

well got to complain about something. If things don't go right..I complain.I am really thinking of dumping it as it did not perform as it should of.But I inherited it from another guy who probably couldn't get it right as well. Probably will get rid of it because I can see myself doing something crazy to it..lol..like a sledge hammer and sink it into the River.I know nothing is perfect in this World, but the $2400 is better then sinking it..but if it runs good again..then I would of solved the issue...live and learn!!

ok, this is only constructive criticism, not meant to make you mad, but if you would actually just put ALL the stock stuff back in it, youd have zero issues with it.
For instance... you talk about "stock" clutching but your not stock, you keep running that w/w/w primary spring, its a softer shift spring then the stock y/w/y is which LOWERS rpm, so everything else stock and that spring isnt going to get you back to 8500rpms.
Guys here and not just you either , seem to think you can use just bits and peices of clutch set ups and then wonder why you dont get the desired rpm results. You need to use everything as a set and that includes gearing also. That changes rpm because of the load placed or removed from the engine via the gear reduction in the chaincase.

I tried to help you in the past as have others, turk, yammiegod, etc.but you never do what someone tells you to, always change out 1 part because you read somewhere its better then what I or someone else with a little bit more time on the tuning end of the deal told you to put in there, so I gave up telling you whats wrong. I am not trying to make you mad just merely trying to point out why you have the problems you do.

put ALL of the stock clutching in it, 3- stock powervalves and new cables and be done with it, it will run the 8500rpm like its supposed to. If your not a tuner, its not a big deal, just ride it stock and have fun.

OR sell it, and buy an apex........... :sled1:

if your keeping the front ohlins, the track and skid and can sell it as is for $2400, you better jump on that.

ohlins should get you $2-300 for the pair
used track with studs-$150-200
skid in good shape-$150-175

thats another potential $500-675.00
$2400 plus $675 is $3075.00.....alot of coin for a srx these days in my opinion.

I understand your point.Yes the $2400 is tempting for sure. The track is basically a new Track, that is why I am keeping it for my 600.I do realize that the w-w-w does lower rpm,but was using all stock components last week, stock gearing.etc.Just wanna replace cables, install stator and see if anything changes..at least for the guy who wants to buy it..Just need him to give me a down payment first before I start tearing it apart.

MONSTER, DUDE, YOU LOVE YOUR SRX. IF ITS ON YOUR NERVES , WALK AWAY FOR AWHILE. AND GOOD GOD PLEASE DON,T PARTS THIS SLED OUT!!!!!! 3:16 (yammie tony)

yes Tony..I do luv this sled..but it don't luv me back..lol!! Here sleds like the SRX sell for a lot more then South of us..like double the price.Locally I do not see another 02 SRX for sale anywhere. It is usually 98 to 2000 and the odd 2001.They are selling for around $3000. I would take a beating a little after all the time and work on it for sure.Like I mentioned..I will take one more stab at her to see if it will run properly.I have always felt something electrical was the culprit over the years. When I first got it,even though skid was all cracked and neglected..the thing would just rip.Would always lift them ski's 2 to 3 feet..that was with a stock track and 144 studs and no problem hitting the 110 on speedo quick. It is like something is holding it back..so I will replace that stator and see if there is a difference. Luv the way it sounds and like the pull..my 600 just doesn't cut it...lol..Time will tell what I will do,the potential buyer has no time this week to come look at it.So still have time to see if it is a runner again...

sell me that track ...my beast will love it lolll
if I end up removing the track,it will go on my 600 mod because the track is shot on it already, would easily save me $500 to $600.That Kimpex track has about a season and a bit on it and if you look at it..it looks like it did on day one..one tough looking track for sure.

Sounds like you have already made up your mind. Lets face it . You are tired of working on your beast. Tweaking and tuning to try to get every last mph out of it.
Been there done that. Everyday there is a new challange to make the sled go faster or handle better. Takes alot of time ,effort and money to keep aging equipment performing right at the top.
It gets to a point of do you want to spend more money on the sled than what its worth on the market or stop the bleeding and sell it. It got to that point with my Viper. Driving all day with my 4stroke buddies eating their snowdust was fustrating. I was at the point of either installing tripples or upgrading my ride. After weighing all the pro's and con's the upgrade made more sense for me.
Now I have the same hp and ride quality as my other riding buddies. And my aging body thanks me for that.

WELL WHATEVER YOU DO, I LOVE A GUY THAT TEST, TEST AND TEST some more. THATS WHAT I DO, YOU TOOK THAT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. good luck. 3:16 (YAMMIE TONY)

hey it keeps me busy here, nothing else to do during the winter except interneting anyways.Summer is a different story..I am never in the house or in front of the TV..
I almost enjoy working on the sleds as much as riding in a way...I spent so much $$$ on helix's,HC's,BU's x2 ,but it was fun at least..Told my wife I'll sell this SRX and get a 77/78 SRX.She says if I COMPLAIN about my back hurting now and then get a vintage SRX with limited suspension...I will be crippled...lol

maybe for next season let me know what you would want for it.Is it a long track or 121?Would like a longer tracked sled in the future.I am sure you have taken good care of it for me Jeff....

Blue, use the money from the motor and treat that OCD. Like Mr. Viper said, piut it all back to stock and ride it like you stole it.

Mine... Stock 02 Viper.. A little skid work to make her ride better.. Ride with the 4 strokes, 800's ect.. and never a problem keeping up and probably most times alot quicker on the trails.. Doug, put your sled back to stock and ride her like you have never riden before. You will love her alot better that way.. Yammi triples rock!!!
