I want to show that if u do your maintence properly and are aware of things to look for u can have a snowmobile that will last years. All of my sleds have ran so good in the last few years. No problems at all and I have lots of miles on them and ride them hard. All these Polaris and cat guys that bought into the hype of new sleds and now the r miserable . Having to wait for parts and dealers playing dumb about broken sleds. I will never have that problem.if u invest into a sled right it will pay u back 14000 dollars for a new sled is wrong. Tell me about your felling about the old iron. There is no better felling that a nice tripple srx that runs good.

Absolutely brother.Keeping the painted stuff touched up and rusty bolts changed for clean ones helps with everything else we do to keep our rides going.I've done some modifications to my 98 over the years and it now sports an Apex skid as welll as reverse along with my newest mod being the 2000 electronics and I gotta say that dual bulb headlight is awesome at night.
This summer I'll be looking for a Viper reverse kit for my 01 SRX as well as maybe another Apex skid, they just ride SOOOOOOOO much better.
You know I get a kick out of the ads for the newer sleds claiming gas mileage numbers that usually are inflated and actual numbers end up being in the 13 -15 mpg range. When my 98 was only a year or 2 old I purposely recorded my fuel use on a trip and I got 14mpg so why is it that in 15 years all the changes to engines and fuel systems that fuel mileage hasn't increased dramatically over my old sled?Don't get me wrong if I had the kind of money to spend on a new sled I'd probably have one but until I win the lottery or get a drastically better paying job I'll be riding my SRX's.

I have to admit... right now I'm debating selling my '06 Apex and just keep running my SRX's... routine maintenance and the "X's" have NEVER let me down!!!

Remember back when the srx's were new, and couldn't keep the cranks together. I bet there was some pissed off new sled owners then too. They all break. I would have a pretty tough time going back to my trailing arm sleds.
Once u been on a new suspension, rider forward machine, there ain't no goin back.
And it ain't like you have average srx's. Your sleds receive a LOT of attention.

my SRX feels good when sitting on it.I sat on a few 4 strokers and do not like sitting so high and don't like the seats either. They must be pretty tippy compared to my SRX which corners like on rails.I was watching a person leaving my place on their 4 stroke and when they turned into the field they almost went over. The ski lifted so bad..that was funny.
the 4 strokes are nice but price tag isnt and even riding my father 03 edge x 800 does ride better then my 98 srx 700 but i still goes by the 800 like its sittting still the tripple power is the best feeling ever i will never get rid of the iron only change i will do with the srx is the rear suspention needs a little more travel.

I agree with ottawair. Once you ride a sled with some suspension and rider forward style you never wanna go back. I would rather ride a rev or nytro for a day then my srx. My srx is only fun for 30 miles on some smooth stuff and then i just wanna get off. My viper is ok but if it gets bumpy it sucks too. The new 4-strokes are nice but break just like the older 2-strokes.

AMEN! Have ben having ALOT of fun with HALF of my SRX FLEET! As with anything if your a dill-weed and dont take care of your stuff then your stuff is going to be a dill-weed back and not take care of you! I have heard more than few guys less than happy with suspension.......UPGRADE IT! I have had weeks where I put 4-500 miles on a SRX with no issues.

haven't broke my crank yet and there are SRX's out there that have over 20,000 miles on them..even the v-max4's.And it is easy to do a fix on them. The 4 strokes will break down just as much skid wise, bearings, bushings like any other sled.Look at some of the vmax4's out there..guys have gotten great service with them, still with original motors in tact..Yamaha made some really good 2 stroke motors and still can't beat the triple triple sound.I love the way my SRX takes corners like it was on rails, don't think a 4 stroke could match that..

All I can say is, Ya don't know, til ya know.
I guess if you're 5'6" and the trails are smooth, then the srx is great.
But, i'm not, and the trails get rough. Maybe not up there by Blue, but where i ride, they will be whooped out on saturday nite.
BTW, 110 miles is an easy ride. Double that in rough trails once.
I'm not here to debate the greatness of the SRX, it's a great sled, still have mine, still runs great. My polaris will eat it for lunch tho.
To be quite honest, the main reason i bought a new sled is so i could have a standing rider position. I stand nearly all the time on my sled.
Like i said, ya dont know, til ya know.

The crank ordeal only happened with the 98's supposedly and they should all have been fixed and as far as ride just swap the skid for an Apex one,I did and it's a different sled now.Maybe not the top end it used to have but at least I can stand upright the day after LMAO.

Yes they r great and always will be they were built for groomed trails not for 4 foot bumps it a bunch of bull if people enjoy big bumps and brag about them I have seen the new sleds on the trail hitting it hard and then when they stop to rest and complain about bumps. The rider forward is nice for standing. No 800 cc will eat my sled for lunch I promise that . The performance and fun factor of a srx is great. Lets compare about 12 years from now how these new sleds have held up. I have sleds with original pistons on them after 20000 miles. These company's do not care anymore about good quality just want money. And u can have srxs that perform in rough conditions just need to replace the suspension and seat and it helps a lot. I will always have these sleds they r plenty for me.

Yes yamaha had to replace them on the 98. At least they didn't play dumb and say there is not a problem like the problems of today. I went 12000 miles on a 98 crank before I replaced it.fourbarrel said:The crank ordeal only happened with the 98's supposedly and they should all have been fixed and as far as ride just swap the skid for an Apex one,I did and it's a different sled now.Maybe not the top end it used to have but at least I can stand upright the day after LMAO.

I don't think a 800 Polaris will eat a srx for lunch we should line em up someday... Lolottawaair said:All I can say is, Ya don't know, til ya know.

I didn't buy an SRX for bumps and jumping,so it is fine for me.Since I long travelled it a bit,I don't feel it in the back anymore.I don't want to be standing all day either when riding..lol..I have to sit on my nice sofa seat ..lol..
I just came back from riding my 600..been jumping all day and climbing as well..I don't want to climb steep hills with a 600 plus pound sled for sure either lol..Each to there own and everyone's style and conditions are different.I have to admit my 2 strokers can take it..motors never blew yet,my suspension's have held up and I do some crazy jumping with the 600 all these years.Love old iron, always did..
If I lived in an area where there was always deep snow,a lot of hills and tons of bumps, probably would be riding a different model sled then.

Sounds good to me I will race the winner. If u beat me I will be impressed for sure and give you the respect u deserve. 600 foot drag I am a stout 700. Jeffs sled is very quick and light if u can't hook up it won't be a race. Those pro r 800 move. I will be back April 9.ottawaair said:Come on up. We can race your race, then mine.
