Dependable sled srx

Not a SRX. But me and the old Sxr put 170km. Going to be another 150km+ tomorrow as well. There was a few bumps that I run into. My friend has the switchback 800 Pro-R. Looks like he hit bumps very smoothly. But my Sxr rides on rails around corners no problem.

Sounds good to me I will race the winner. If u beat me I will be impressed for sure and give you the respect u deserve. 600 foot drag I am a stout 700. Jeffs sled is very quick and light if u can't hook up it won't be a race. Those pro r 800 move. I will be back April 9.

Jeff can you beat Petes srx in a drag race with your polaris?

I bought a 2000 SRX new - on a WHIM. Knew nothing about them - liked the look and the price. I thought it was just me - but when I had to let my 2000 go as soon as I could afford it I bought another but an 01 (around 2005). Then I sold that one for what I paid for it two seasons later....

Last October when my business was back and I could afford it - I could have easily bought any sled I wanted - no problem. What did I do? I bought an 01 SRX w 4600 miles on it for $2K and never hesitated! I saw all the new prices for sleds and thats just wayyyyy too much money.

I really thought is was just me - that liked this sled so much. Then I found this place and realized OK it isn't just me ! LOL.

Forward stance? Stand up? No not for the twisty trails I ride in NH - no way. My buddy got a brand NEW 600 Switchback and he has a hard time on the trails keeping up with me. The higher center of gravity on the newer sleds are great in the bigger snow and on hills etc but not for trail riding. IMO. If I rode in big snow sure I would change up but we dont have that out here.

Not so funny story BUT - we were both at a camp bon fire couple weekends ago - just up the road a bit so no helmet, was warm out (30's) few beers. So we go to head back around midnight....he is ahead of me and all of a sudden on a ROAD with snow (camp) he dumps the sled and it almost rolls! I was like WTF dood - you are going 10 miles an hour down a road how do you almost roll??????????? He said damn I was just turning around to look back and accidently turned the skiis left and BAM over.

Center of gravity too high and skis too grippy. $13K sled and I look at him all the time like dood....$2K man I spent and you are eating my snow dust. oh well.

So yea love the SRX. I got a Viper after seeing all the talk on here - its a good sled for sure - not quite the same style on the trails but I like it.

I WILL be getting another SRX - but first I need to upgrade the skid on my current one!

I agree tho on crap trails the SRX (until I upgrade the skid) can be a pain to ride - but that does not last too long - always some good trail around the next corner! And it is worth the wait.

I love my SRX. I have been riding my Viper Mountain lately because we finally got some snow. My track tore on the Viper and I had to break out the SRX.
The SRX is a blast. Let some friends ride it who have new sleds. It brings a smile to any ones face who rides it. Couple of the guys had them in the past. Said it brought back some memories.

I had it out in the deep snow breaking trail. The thing is a wheelie monster in the deep. It was a little on the warm side over the weekend so the snow was set up enough that I could ride any where. Just dont stop... lol
One of the guys had a Nytro 2013 xtx with the 1.75 paddle track. He got stuck 5 times to the srx one time. Only reason I got stuck on the srx was I got cocky and was turning around in the woods on a narrow trail to go back and help him get out.

Any one else out there go off trail srx style? It takes a certain kind of nut to attempt I know.

I have CnA skis - Viper Shock in the rear - Bender can - Heel Clicker weights - ripsaw (no picks)

I have been on an SRX for ten years, my first was a 99 with a stock suspension and during that time I rode a lot of Saturdays when its pretty rough. I wanted the motor and the looks but also wanted to be able to walk the next day so I bought an 01 with an M10. Wow what a difference. I have been tweeking the sled for 8 years now and I must admit the Apex has my interest. Problem is every time I drive my SRX I forget about wanting an Apex! My sled sucks up 6" stutter bumps like they aren't there. I also have the Max Perf wide kit with adjustable brackets and Works shocks with C&A skis.

I ride with a 800 pro r.....unless its reasonabley straight and flat the pro r gets away from me.....the rougher the further ahead he gets. Flat and straight its a toss up (mine run good but your "stout" would surely wax me!). I was eye balling how to go about putting that rear suspension under a SRX!

I don't own an SRX anymore, but have a Vmax 700, same basic platform I believe. I love riding my sled, goes damn good for what it is (friend has an 06 Apex and he pulls a sled or two from a dig to 80-90) I don't worry about it blowing up, starts up every time and handles well. Although I'm only 5'8", so maybe if I was 6' or above, I might be singing a different tune. But all in all, I can't complain about my old, outdated piece of iron, it stays with everyone on their newer sleds no problem, and that's OK with me. I'm not out to impress people, just have some fun...

It is not about the flat out drag race it is fun to race and see who is quicker but it is a general awesome machine for trail riding. The older I get the more I like the simple way everything is. No fancy computers that just fail. The way these sleds make u feel when u go from corner to corner is like no other. Find a county packed road and let r rip. yes they r not for huge bumps or mountain riding. Same goes for mountain sleds and tall center of gravity sleds they do not corner like a srx. the gas mileage is very good on these triples even with performance mods.

well... it IS still about the drag race, whats the first thing you do if one of your buddies gets a new sled??? you race them.

The part I like more then anything is here we are comparing old sleds that are 15yrs old now and some a couple years newer to modern 2012-13 machines and they still cant easily out run the old dinosaurs.
Sure, the newer sleds with rider forward and all that stuff will easily run away in the bumps, but a srx was NEVER ever meant for bumps.. hence the low travel suspension the srx's are equipped with.
The newer machines are for sure lighter and more hp but still cant wax a srx and eat it for lunch, at least not if those conditons include groomed flat trails and a field length or lake bed to cross. Not too mention the slot car type handling on turns that are smooth, if its like that you can just about pass the new stuff on the inside of the turns as you dont even have inside ski lift on a srx. You can be beaten any given day no matter what sled your riding if your not set up and tuned in for the conditions.
So no matter what the srx will still shine on the groomed trail and lakes, and the newer stuff shines in the rough stuff where it was designed to be used.
All in all the old srx 2 smoker is hard to beat for a basic trail sled, alot of good reliable power, excellant gas mpg and still able to hang some 15yrs later......its still boasting a pretty good record if you ask me. :2strokes:

Well said don. That is my exact felling on these sleds. They r the standard to compare to. And I have not raced Jeff and his 800 Polaris yet.

We cant ever seem to get together for an all out race day. So it's all just trash talk.
just pickin at each other.
And, I rode the srx about 30 miles tonite, happy to inform you all it still rides like a brick.

I see, was just gonna say if the polaris beats Petes srx then i can see why it would beat yours and then it must be pretty fast. If it doesnt beat Petes it shouldnt beat yours, you guys have the same engine , the rest is just in the tuners fingers......... I know all about the trash talk, its all good........ ;)!

when its rough out, I agree a srx is not what I want to ride unless theres a #$%&* morphine drip iv waiting for me in the motel room....LOL!!!

Ride safe Guys!!

Yep just good times for sure.

by the way, 3gracings srx isnt to be taken too lightly, it keeps up with traffic! :hide:

Pete's srx is faster that mine. But just by a slight red light. They were very close in 500' on the grass. Our srx's that is.

A really fun brick? Apples to apples SRX 98-02 suspension was'nt that "brickish" compared to other era models. I am sure some one more "techy" will chime in but wasnt the world wide web invented in like 95-96? Here we are 16-17 years later......Using it to chit chat with Yammie fans around the globe!

I dont have the money to justify a new or newer machine... and with the way winter is evolving into snow, rain, snow rain,, more rain. and on and on and on.. it doesnt make sense.

That said, I followed my late grandfather; "you gotta take care of your stuff".

and take care I do, especially a snowmobile, for it can haul your a$$ far from convenience in no time. A break down will happen, but your chances of getting home are far greater if you maintain.

I have had an 03 Viper ER since new. Over the years Its remained stock with minor work. This year is has 5500 miles and I decided to replace the track which led to new bearings and wheels .. clutch work, 136 kit, .. .. can of worms. but for the most part everything still looks good.

I have got the suspension dialed in as best as the proaction can offer. For what it is, It been a super sled. Yes the seat it low and yes the suspension is what it is, but at the end of the season, the only thing it costs to own is real estate on the shop floor in the corner. Season after season, grease here fluff and buff, check and clean that.... this.. and its BRAAAAAP until the snow goes on vacation.

I have ridden some new machines, but not all day or nearly enough time to get used to them. I am sure they are great. I like the viper. Its pretty quick, actually handles quite well and is confident and predictable. The longest ride I had on it was 270ish.. AND I was beat. But I did ride 120 miles and many trails were pretty bad and I was beat too. .. some rides are perfect and want to ride all night long abd, some are "I cant wait to get the kcuf off this thing" I can run the piss out of it and hold a good fight thru the woods, but its on the large open ginormous fields, the bigger sleds leave me eating dust.

There is a place where every sled performs best. Fortunately where I ride, It fills the gap almost all of the time and no one is really waiting for me at the next intersection.

Ile keep the ol' girl. Im good to her and she is good to me. ;)!

They're all fast. Most races are made at the launch. Very hard to run down a well tuned sled.

Soooo, i guess all you super fans are extremely happy now that yamaha re-introduced the srx last year, and now the viper this year. You guys should be extatic.

The viper is slightly different, but the new srx is nearly identical to the ones of old.
