Srx 600 Oval Race Build

I am starting to build a 1998 SRX 600 for sportsman 600 oval racing next year. I would like some opnions. Sportsman 600 class is mostly stock class. Can not mod heads, cylinders, crank case. Must run stock carbs but can be modded. Can run aftermarket exhaust. Must run factory clutches with any weights springs helixs. I have a deal going on some aaen tripple pipes to lose 25ibs and gain 6hp. They are not race pipes turn 8400 rpm to keep out of ign retard. I do not think race pipes will help with stock porting? Has anyone run aaen srx pipes? Are v force or carbon fiber reeds worth running?
 
I have run the Aaens on a 700 SRX and they are indeed lighter. If you advance the timing a couple of degrees they work pretty good at 8600 - 8700 rpm. The Aaens leave the chaincase exposed so you can change gearing quickly without removing the pipes. As far as making more power I don't think they are any better then the stock SRX pipes and silencer...Yamaha did a supurb job on the factory pipes but they are relatively heavy.

I would bore the stock carbs to 35mm and run stock cages with Carbon tech reeds...I have not been sold on the VForce reeds on the SRXs. I tried Vforce 2s, then went to Vforce 3s, and now I am using Boysen Rage Cages[very durable] but I don't think any of them are better then the carbon techs.

If you can get your hands on some high rpm pipes I have a very good way for you to map a timing curve for them to work! Its a piggy back to your stock ignition that will allow you to run 2 different laptop programmable timing curve maps. The stock porting may not get you the maximum performance out of the race pipes but it will definitely give you big gains over stock pipes or aaens.

If you could tap into jabber's setup you will be VERY competative!
 
your big gain is going to be on suspension set up I help out a team here that run a srx600 and they dominant but I will get shot if I say too much LOL
Do what I said and go from there test test test
get the rule book and go to the edge of it lose weight where you can

I have mod cdi's and piggy back boxes. Not sure on the rules for this class of racing. But if they can run aftermarket pipes and bored carbs I can't see them not allowing CDI upgrades or re mapping!
 
What track will you be running at, races are usually won or lost in the corners so handling is alot of this game

I fully agree with Turch that a good chassis set up can win you a race! My feeling though is to set up the chassis as good as possible for the most usable power you can possibly produce.

Turk on the handling I know this will take some tuning. I am widning front out to isr rules, looking for stiffer sway bar, stager trailing arms, lower sled, plan on doing alot of mods to pro action skid to lightn and easly adjust. I do have some experiance setting up polaris oval sleds will see how diff yammy is! I will post pics as I go.

set up right you will do good with this sled get as much HP as you can with the rules and I look forward to the pics

Looked at rules and says "Ignition must be OEM for model" thats it. I would think this means no race boxs? But I think stock box could be modded. Is that possible? I found a set of race pipes listed on amsnow. 600 and 700 same pipes? He told me was turning 700 motor 10k rpm with race box and pipes. Jabber how much you think I can gain running stock porting high rpm with race pipes? Maybe better of with aaen stock pipes at 8400 rpm?
 
Most of the weight savings are made in replacing the muffler for a can.I would go with Hauck triple stingers and stock pipes before the aaen setup.

Big gains even on stock porting. I run 700 mod pipes on my 600srx. Only problem I have with them is building heat in the pipes. In your case that would not be a factor.
What brand of pipes are they? What are they asking for them and the CDI?
 
I would go with mod pipes you will be closing off cowl vents so heat in the pipes not a problem

They are aaen race pipes and he has cdi box. I am going to buy. What do mean by building heat? To much heat or not enuff? what brand pipes are u running and at how many rpms? This guy thinks aaens should turn 10k RPM! Wow will motor hold together at 10k for extended periods on oval track? Also can not bore carbs.
 
You want the pipes hot! I run bender mod pipes. They spin at around 9800 rpm's depends on the pipe temp. As the pipes get hotter the peak power rpm will rise. My sled will start out spinning at around 9600 and finish the run at 10,000
