DAM!!!!! SWEET!!!!!polish and powder coating it doesn't get any better than that! GREAT JOB.

Thanks Glen! Yeah, this build has done a complete 180 since we got it last April, I'm really happy with how it has turned out! Should be a great mountain sled for many years... providing Alex stays "upright".

DONE!!! Finally... well 99%. We are waiting for Alex's Mountain Mod Hood to arrive this week, but otherwise everything is complete. We are going up in the Black Hills tomorrow to do some testing with the sled before the season hits in full force.

Two of the pictures show the Snow Performance Stage III Water/Methanol injection kit installed and lit up. It's a great system and eliminates race fuel needs and has mapping abilities reading off of the injector duty cycle and boost pressure. It has been a fun project from where it first started last April when he brought it home, but I'm glad its done and is definitely fully custom with nice detail work. Time to boost and ride!

Justin

Holy hell, you got all the power, the ape hangers. Now all you need is a bitch pad and some snow.
Outstanding job, as always.

Ok my work is all done! Here is a finished pic from last Saturday's Black Hills Boondockers Open House Event. The sled was definitely a big hit! The pic is finished with the Mountain Mod hood finally installed. I made the hood strapless compared to how most fasten these styles of hood. I'm pretty happy with how this project turned out and it runs like an animal, spot on! Now its time to ride!

Now getting ready to start the next project! My personal sled, a mint 2007 Yamaha Apex MTX w/ Boondocker turbo setup currently running 18-psi of boost; this one will be real sick! VanAmberg tunnel is on the way for that build... stay tuned for a new build log on this project in the upcoming months.

Thanks super1c! Yeah, once I get my personal sled done I'd like to start building 1 custom turbo build each season to sell. I have more fun building these things.

Alex is one happy guy with the final outcome, now he's just afraid to ride it in fear of scratching it, lol.

Did you ever finish up the turbo V4?

Oh yeah, its ready to rip with the compounds. System is currently set up at 44-psi for speed runs. I'm not totally sure what NSSR event I'm going to run at for 2014.

I don't think that's the same sled, as I know Brad had a few of these on the snow during that time; this one originally had the factory '07 Yamaha "red" when Brad owned it. From my understanding from another knowledgeable sledder that knew of Alex's sled; Brad supposedly removed the custom propane set up on this sled and then sold the Apex to a guy from Colorado who goes by the username "catssuk" on SnoWest Forums. This was the same guy that did all the hack work on this sled from the old pictures. I was told that the sled never ran right afterwards and they couldn't get it to run as a turbo sled should. I guess the new owner even brought Brad in to tune the sled, but no luck so it eventually got dumped, that would be my guess. I can't 100% confirm this story, but the guy was very familiar with this particular sled. Alex called me when he picked it up in Colorado and said it was really bad and wouldn't hardly start or even move to load it into his truck box.

Like I said in one of my first post; the Pure Logic Controller settings were way off and with about 30 minutes of tuning we had it roughed in pretty well; well enough that we gained about 5-psi of boost without even touching the wastegate. The turbo lag on this sled with the "bigger" Garrett GT2871R had horrible lag engaging at around 3,800 rpm's. I can only imagine how often this tank was stuck somewhere. It luckily had Hauck adjustable weights with adjustable engagement ramps so I worked the lag out by bumping engagement to 5,200 rpms, huge difference!

One important thing I found when taking the Ski-Doo XP tank apart was the fuel pickup. "Somebody" had been in the tank and used small hardware store vinyl 3/16" inside diameter line as the primary pickup for feed, then on the outside of the tank used 3/8" I.D. fuel line to the electric fuel pump. At higher boost levels or a long chute pull this could have been disastrous if the motor would have starved out on fuel. Luckily we found that issue and made a 1/2" I.D. pickup line in the tank and reduced it to the correct 3/8" I.D. for the pump. This sled had stupid engineered all over it.
