Necessary Garage Tools (Not sure where to post)

Hey guys. Wasn't sure where to post this thread so I figured I would start here and could move it necessary. I am fairly new to the snowmobile world but like to consider myself mechanically inclined and love to work on my own equipment. I figure if I break it I need to know how to fix it. That being said I want to start beefing up the garage so I can pretend to be a pro...haha.

Anyways a couple of things I know I need, but am looking for places to purchase:
  • Sled lift
  • Sled dollies for under ski's / tracks (not sure if it is better to build my own or buy)
  • Spring compression tool

Does anyone have recommendations on other tools or gadgets I need to make sure I have at my disposal?

I'm actually building a sled lift for half the price of new. Blueprints are in the tech section to make your own. Sled dollies you should be able buy for around $30.

I would buy the tools as you need them...there's lots of tools to buy for working on sleds and it adds up in a hurry!

Tools,well I'll try to make a list off the top of my head that I know I added over the years.
- snap ring pliers........... Good ones
- torque wrench......... A good one
- metric wrenches and sockets
- breaker bar/strong arm whichever you want to call it
- clutch puller bolt...... a must to have in the tool box
- Allen wrenches or sockets............ metric

That's about all I can think of right now but I'm sure there'll be more.
 
Dalton Clutch dummy tool, for opening the clutch while you change your weights/ rollers. Makes it also easy to press down a Heeclicker spring.
 
I love my cordless impact with a socket adapter. Gets used more than any other tool. Good deals this time of year. Bench grinder with wire wheel is always getting used too. for cleaning up bolts and stuff. Tap and die set for ****ed threads. Compression tester and/or leak down tester is a must. I made my own leak down for like 20$. Always have lots of loctite. Blue red and green. I could go on for ever. Have way too much stuff and still not enough haha!!

This tool is PRICELESS. a flexible shaft helps!

Good lighting is nice. I like tower halogens....lots of light and keeps you warm when the shop isn't.
 
3/8" drive digital torque wrench....gotta be careful when tightening bolts into aluminum.
 
Don't forget a good dolly. I can't remember what mine is but wasn't cheap and claims to fit any sled. 94 wildcat a tad too wide for it but can move it around.

2 sled lifts, one for the complete sled, and one to lift the rear of the sled.

If you decide to buy ski/track dollies instead of make them, you have multiple options of made-for-snowmobile versions, or you could buy the larger wooden or plastic/metal movers dollies available from Menards/Harbor Freight/etc usually available in roughly 12"x18" and 18"x30" sizes. These movers dollies have many other uses when not being used to move sleds around.
 
Plastic mallet, brass drift, and a tool I use when pulling any carb apart now is the spring loaded center punch.

I have an led mag light with a magnet on the end. Flexy extendable. I think it was 20$. So ****ing handy
 
A whole shelf devoted to carb cleaner

A set of extra long standard and Phillips head screw drivers.

And something to throw when it's not going good, Nerf ball, ballon, etc
 
sled lift, good quality metric sockets with a flex joint,vise bolted down to a table, torque wrench, impact driver is a must, air compressor with an air ratchet, snap ring plies, digital micrometer is nice to have, few cans of carb clean, wd40.

oh and a beer fridge, cant forget that

pretty much nailed the basics here. there are other items that will make it easyer later but this list covers the basics any sled head needs to have. more is always better too lol. need to mount wheels on our sled lift as it is too much of a pain to use in my garage as people keep filling it with stuff without asking some days.
