I just bought a set of gyt pipes. I have a 1994 Yamaha vmax 600. Stock clutches. 20/37 gears. Can someone tell me exactly what jets I need to put in my carbs? Do I just need to change the main jets? I've read that some people change nozzles too. And what about needle height? My elevation in Montreal Quebec is 6 feet above sea level.

Q8 nozzles will be needed and a main jet of 155 if I remember right, also need a low angle helix to help keep up rpms and a very stiff primary spring, I would suggest swapping to a tall primary spring cover.

Not sure what you mean by swapping to a tall spring cover? You mean swapping to a 95 clutch because they are generally bigger? What is a q8 nozzle? I don't see that part number on the diagram. Do you have part numbers?

No the clutch cap/cover changed in 98 to accept taller springs larger assortment of springs

So what is a q8 nozzle? I don't see it on the diagram. Where can I order them? Is it really necessary to change the nozzle? I read some people using these pipes and just changing the mains.

Does anyone have exact spec sheet for what I need?

manual 006.jpgHere is a couple pics from my techincal update manual about the gyt twins. I know it's kinda hard to read but it's the best I could do.

Those are specs for a vmax stw? With smart carbs? Thought the gyt pipes came on 96 xt models?

The specs on the bottom are for the vmax with smart carbs. 96 xt came with the gyt single pipe. None of the vmax's came stock with the GYT twin pipes.

Ok. That makes sense. So do you have the charts that were originally provided with the kit? Besides the one in the pics for the smart carbs. Looking for the charts for the regular carbs. And where can you buy q8 nozzles? I haven't seen them in any parts schematic. Can you provide a link as to where to buy them?

I'll see if I can find a part number for the Q8. according to this, it says the kit came with the Q8 for the left carb so you must only need one.

I think the Q8 was only on one side of the 96 XTs. I thiiiiiiiiiiiiink

Here is what my manual says about the pipe kit.The 94-95 kit includes muffler bracket for frame, q8 nozzel for the left carb and 4, 0.4mm jet needle shims. the 96 kit does not have the muffler bracket, the Q8 nozzel or the shims because these items are already on the unit from the factory.

If you search mikuni q8 on eBay there is a bunch there, but you need to know what series carb we have, ie 159, 166, or whatever. Anyone know what series carb we have?

And I would like to know what you guys who already have these pipes have used, 1 or 2 q8 nozzles? And which carb is the left carb? I'm assuming left is when your sitting on the machine, so the left carb would be clutch side? Does that make sense?

Of anyone has original yamaha part numbers for the Q8 nozzles can you post then here?
