AC guy looking to make the jump to Yamaha

Crazy loud makes me not so interested in them. I am about making big power, not big noises...

They are crazy loud but not as loud as the aaen pipes on my dads Polaris they are stupid loud. He gets a ticket almost every time he hits the trail.
He doesn't ride it that much anymore can't afford to. LOL...
There should be some YouTube videos of sleds with Hauck pipes. You can judge them for yourself everybody has there own opinion of what's loud and isn't loud.

I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket in Michigan.

My Arctic Cats have always been piped and had race cans and I have never had any issues...

Where we ride we seem to run into the stupid tribal police just about everytime. And everytime they pull a sound test. They even tested my 87 phazer with stock pipe and tried to claim I failed.
Never got a ticket from the Dnr, county, or state they just pass us through.

Berrien County. Now we ride just the northern part to avoid the tribal police on the southern trail.
If you look at the Michigan trail map the southern trail is only like 30 miles and goes right by the casino.

I ride in the UP mostly, I have a place in Newberry, MI. My family lives nearby in Germfask, MI. I have ridden downstate (where I reside), but the trails are tight. I also have ridden through Northern WI, and East MN..

Mark, I love riding in the UP but only during the week days. Too many people Re up on the weekends.

I know a lot old trails and logging roads so a lot of times I don't ride through all of the trails. Neither do most of the locals..

Same here not a big fan of weekend riding. Also not to big on night riding.
I also like field riding but moved during the summer and don't know the fields around me yet.
The guy a few houses down knows them real good as he grew up in the area but he like to drink, get high and ride only at night so not gonna ride with him.
He said he gets a different sled each year because he always totals one out. I wonder LOL..

Stay away from that guy, he's dangerous. I ride a lot at night, but only if the conditions are right. There have been times when I was younger that we would be up in the cottage and the trails would be shit. The it would dump a bunch of fresh powder on us, and we would go out riding at 3-4AM just to be out there while the trails and lakes were smooth.

I don't drink much, especially don't mix that when riding. I ride too hard and aggressive for that nonsense..

I don't drink I'm 23 been riding since 12 I moved to Michigan when I was 10. I've seen alot of people around here go bar hopping and get hit by cars and trucks. Me and my dad watched one guy hit a barbwire fences and another guy paid for our gas one night the station closed early and 5 miles down the trail he got hit by a semi.
That why I don't like to ride at night or with people that have been drinking..

Mine to and good luck with whichever sled you choose.
Myself I like the redhead engine hard to beat on reliability and they perform awesome to mods.

I don't mind tinkering at all. Whichever sled I get will be getting new skis, shaper bars, studs, pipes, can, and reeds right off the get go.

I also like to put a big wheel kit on the skid. I have 8" wheels on my T-cat. It made a big difference

I'm not sure why you are talking about putting studs on these? Neither one is set up for tunnel and exchanger protectors and they don't have the room to add them. These things come with a 2" paddle track. Did you know that? Studs that tall will destroy the track because of how easy they pull out from the leverage.

By the sounds of your list it seems like you are more of a trail rider that jump off into a field or wood lot when you come across it. These sleds are not overly trail friendly and in that case neither one may be what your looking for.

I do ride more trails than anything else. I didn't know they weren't that trail friendly.. However the reason I wanted a more capable deep powder sled is because my current sled isn't as capable in the deep snow...

Buy one so that you'll have a trail sled and the other one for off trail.
I didn't have any problems on the trail with my mountain max.

I am just waiting for my buddy to get his money together, or else I may offer to buy the sled I like most. I don't want to miss out this. They're not that common here.

If you want to trail ride them and ride them more like a crossover then you can always put a shorter lug track on it. The viper with a 1.375 cobra would be a great crossover, but it will push because of the long skid with no rail tip up. With a shorter track you can add picks but you still want to put in tunnel and exchanger protectors. The stock clearance, at least on a mountain max between the front exchanger and a 2" paddle is a little less than 1/2" and remember the pics have to be longer than the lug. These sleds have a narrow front end 38.9" vs 42" center to center on the spindles. They also gave up a lot of front end travel to have that narrow front end 6.7" travel vs 9.5" for a full width trail sled. In deep snow on flat ground the lug height won't cause you too much stuck, but I wouldn't try and point it uphill and get very far.

The problem with the mtn max is that 141" track length. There is nothing out there that used that length so you can't just pick up something used and drop it in. Yamaha even offers a replacement 1.25" lug track for if you want to trail ride it. Putting in a 144 you can set the skid back 1.5" which is a pain because all the brackets need to be moved, or you could go to an 8" wheel with an offset axle and put the axle in backwards so it moves the wheel to the rear instead of the front to take up that extra difference.
