Maybe one of the mods can clean that up to avoid confusion.

There is an 8bvfa helix in this secondary that works well too. I'm running one on my 600 twin.

8bvfa is a Yamaha helix that measures 48/42.

Not a bad price on that ebay item. Would the secondary fit on my vmax as an assembly? Or just the Helix would work?

Not positive but I don't think it will. I think shafts are different

Yes it will work with the 500.

I don't know, I went and reread the reed notch instructions and it seemed pretty straight forward to me. Says that it "unblock the intake port for a straighter flow into the case on the top side of the reed stopper" which is what it does.

easy mod to do, doesn't hurt to try! But I do believe it says 500/600. Like I said I plan to have this done by xmas so i'll report back the difference in response when I get it done.

Yeah I saw that. Appreciate you finding the other two items, the sellers still have them so I should have a few of the parts soon.

That center reed flows into the boost port which goes to the clyinder, not the case.I don't know, I went and reread the reed notch instructions and it seemed pretty straight forward to me. No problem sgtlange when you get it all together you will notice a big change in throttle response and performance in that little 600 twin.
I know i did.
Also a lot better fuel economy.

Could anyone explain a little more on the 8ab weights? Are these stock or aftermarket? It seems a lot of Yamaha parts start with 8ab.

The 8ab prefix is year specific.
8ab is 199?
8ca is 199?
8cr is 199?
And etc etc etc
The 8ab, 8ca & 8bu-00 all have the same profile. They just differ in weight.

8ab = 41.0 grams
8ca = 42.8 grams
8bu-00= heavier yet. Can't remember exactly.

I'm not quite sure what came in yours. It shows 3 different weights.

You might be able to read the stamping on them while they are still installed. Just need a flashlight.

Two years ago I put viper cages w/ the stock OEM reeds in an 01 SXR 500. I replaced the stock galvanized stops w/ stainless and ground out a mild notch. Good night nelly what a difference that made. Almost like a mini supercharger. Spark plug color lightened up too.http://www.totallyamaha.net/threads/69770-quick-question-about-reed-notch In case anyone was wondering here is the info i found when i did my viper reed cages in a twin.
