why on earth would you want to go that low on gearing? 200 foot race? 166" track?

Same chain, same gear case. The problem you will have though is that with the wider lower gear and the smaller top, you won't have many teeth in the chain on the top gear. If you have good traction, the top gear could fail if the track didn't spin some. Not likely, but could.

I run 20/42 with 9 tooth drivers in my mountain sled. I have never heard of a 20 or 19 tooth gear failing but I have heard of 18's breaking. The 70 link chain will work with 20/42.

what are you running for a track and studs? That is VERY low gearing for just general trail riding, you will probably find a nice overrev on top end with gearing that low in most conditions, and if you don't have good traction it will dig a trench to china on holeshots.

if i woulda kept stock chain i woulda, but a) the stock chain was umm, worn out with 12000kms on it, so i swapped for 15wide instead of the stock 13wide...

Yes, and besides that you are losing horsepower by overrevving anything over 8600 or so.
