Take it easy for the first few Km´s, then run it with different speeds. Not only at half throttlle, but vary the speed and give it few short bursts of speed after it´s been warmed good (seating the rings). BEFORE running WOT make sure everything works and there is no leaks of oil / coolant / fuel etc. No air bubbles in coolant lines etc. You know, the basic stuff.
Here is a link to how to make a break in. BUT REMEMBER, YOUR SLED, YOUR responsibility LOL

Lots of 4-stroke stuff, but there should be something for 2-strokes too.

If you didnt replace the rod bearings...then warm up and WOT. Thats how I break my motors in.
If I put new rod bearings in then I run it easier for alteast 5 minutes....

Hi guys!
Ike: Thanks for the tips, cool, will take a look at the url. The thing is, it`s impossible to ride our trails without having to rew it once in a while, some tight corners with hills just around the corners. Yup.
Familyman: Nah didn`t replace the rod bearings, well I replaced the one in the little end, but I guess that`s what you ment when you said rod bearing.. .
I often think many people overdo the run-in thing. Just don`t ride it like you stole it, and it should be fine.
Good news for tomorrow, my friend is home right now and said he would join me tomorrow morning, since he`s the one who took it apart. But he has t leave at 11.30, but I guess we can do alot in a few hours.
Gees can`t wait to pull the starter rope

Hi guys!
08.00 I loaded the V-Max 4 engine & carbs & air box & tools in my car and went down to my friend and we started putting it back in. What a great way to start a day, only bad thing was that it was + degrees and it was raining heavily, but weather report sais it will be colder later this weekend.
She`s in!. One tip, attach right side vacum hose for the fuel pump to the engine before you put the engine in, had to pull it out again to attach the hose.
Getting closer.. .
(sorry for the bad pic)
And she`s all good to go !! . Took us about 4 hours, had to go back to my workshop a few times to get some things I forgot (exhaust gaskets one time, umbraco key the 2nd time) , but all in all everything went smooth, I imagined that the airbox would be hard to get onto the carbs but it was easy.
The only thing left is to put oil in the center gear house (I forgot, but it`s an easy thing to do even with everything mounted, I`ll just use a hose) and put coolant in it. I didn`t mount the nuts for the seats because I figure we will have to air the cooling system and the air-screws are under the seat.

Kind of nice "setting" , good old wood barn
My friend who ownes the sled will be working this weekend, but his brother is coming home (who rides the Vector MTN I`ve showed in some pics) , so I doubt that we`ll manage NOT to fire it up tonight.. .
I`ll keep you posted, let`s just hope she will return to life again. I did check the spark, nice spark.
Oh btw. this V-Max 4 has a 121" 2,2" finger track belt, kind of funny.
Wellwell

looks great, must feel good to be done!
Hi guys!
Thanks for the replies.
Good news, she started on the 6th pull.
First we put cooland in her and then I put oil in the center gear house, put new plugs in and then we fire her up.
I video taped when we started her, here`s a little clip:
www.pedersensnekkeri.net/vmaxfourstart.wmv
Sorry for the bad editing, I`m all tired and ready to go to bed.
We took her for a spin down the fields and she seemed OK, a little lazy at low rpm in the beginning but after she had run for a little while she cleared out some of the excessive oil in the motor, guess she wount be her self before she has some miles on the counter and a few high rpm runs.
Going to ride her a little on the fields tomorrow and then bring her up to the mountains tomorrow night if the weather is OK.
Here`s a funny pic of the owner, having a good time in the barn while I and Jørn (his brother) did the last checks on the sled.
Reading the manual..
Hehe funny guy.
Wellwell goodnight everybody, will keep you posted tomorrow.
Joakim.

Looks good, did you lose any bolts through the cracks in the barn floor when you reassembled everything? Nice video too, I especially liked the music edited in!!

Hi guys! Thanks for the replies!
Daman: Thanks, LEARN NORWEGIAN !!
03viperguy: Thanks! ,Yeah I know those pipes look awful.. but the owner is a function before looks guy.. if it were mine I`d paint them for sure.. but then again the spray can heat resistand paint sucks.. half a season and the pipes are back to normal.. .
ejcamaro: Thanks, . Nah didn`t loose a single bolt.. almost lost a plier.. but I managed to save it. Stupid thing is that the area under the floor is un-accessable.
On Saturday I rode 50kilomters on the V-Max 4, it run a like champ. Rode it on a field at different rpm and different speeds. I guess the V-Max 4 runs cooler the faster you ride it since the radiator needs air to be cooled down.
Picture of me on the V-Max
Jørn on the V-Max 4.. (owners brother)

This is how the plugs looked like after 50km or so.. think they look OK?.
Last night we went riding and it did run fine.. so I think and hope it will run for a few more years.
Wellwell thanks for all the replies guys, couldn`t have done this without you.
It`s kind of nice to have a V-Max 4 in our riding group, it is a neat sled.

Nice job, I love reading through your projects!!!
Hi !
Thanks for the replies.
Tomseal6: Glad you thought the plug looked fine, will pull them a couple of times just to be sure that it isn`t running lean. Wish your SRX motor was here, I`d rebuild it for free as long as you payed the parts.
Ike: Thanks, yes they are getting somewhat rare, atleast here in Europe, I guess there are more of them across the pond.. ?.
03viperguy: Thanks!! . It`s a 1994 . Do any of you know how many horses this on has stock?.
Kinger: Thanks, nice to know, I have tendency to write alot in forums, I do it all the time when I work on something. I have a huge thread on my car, many on my different bikes etc. It`s nice to share experiences and pictures.
