power madd hand guards

For anyone considering a riser you need to look at the type of riding you do. If you would like to stand up more to take on the bumps or playing in powder, you most certainly will want to go to a pivot riser. Because of the angle of the steering post, a riser block will lose some effective height gained by the block. It also makes it difficult to lock one of your boots under the footrest while standing because the bars are pushing you rearward.

I feel that the best pivot riser on the market is made by Rox, period. The Rox pivot riser is the simplest/cleanest design and best manufactured riser you can find. It looks like a piece of jewerly. The Rox is also a couple bucks cheaper than the Powermadd and Sportech designs. The Rox booth at the Novi Snowshow had these risers in colors. The blue one looked sick! You can get Rox risers from Rich's Motorsports.

I installed a 2" Rox pivot riser on my Viper this fall after riding with a 1" riser block for the past couple years. If you search the forums in this site you will find that 2" seems to be the max height you can go without extending your cables. I would agree with this after installing my 2" Rox. Bring on the snow!

Not to hijack this thread, but how are you guys mounting your handguards on the viper? I have a set of Powermadds and it is not possible to mount these things with the regular mounts. Do you install them on the grip side or handlebar side? i think I've seen both, but my mounts won't fit over either of them. It also seems that if I go with the grip side, it will interfere with the throttle. Other than the billet, are the ROX mounts any different?

There on but I can barely turn my handle bars either way. I mounted mine between the grip and throttle and grip on the right, and between the brake/high-low bracket and grip on the left. I have pics but there not on this computer, I can post the pics tonight.

It just doesnt seem like it would work well on the grip side , i went and bought the ROX mounts and they should work well. Has for the handguards hitting the windshield , they dont on mine because i have a low blue windshield . I also added on later on last season a one inch riser and found that to be plenty high for the trail riding that i do.
For trail riding one inch is plenty.
Attached is a pic of the rox mounts from a fellow ty member. Looks Good ;)!

I put on a cheep 2" block and pivot or turned the bars up in the clamp as far as they go before the brake lever hits the shield on full right turns. seems to work fine but I dont know about when I mount the hand guards?

i emailed rox and got an answer...i was going to get a pair to make the mounting simpler but they told me shipping would take 3-4 weeks...screw that..il be riding in 2 weeks so i need them before...well friday is the test day with my powermadd handguard and the powermadd mounting kit.. hope it works..but lets say i stay with my powermadd mounts how will i fit them in next ro my brake and gas bar? will i have to move something?

I think I had to move both brake and throttle blocks in towards the centre of the sled on mine. The parking brake had problems staying locked but I don't use it any way(took it off this year). On the throttle side, I had to be carefull of a wire(either thumb warmer or tors). Both are mounted with the spacer do-hickey inbetween the tabs on the guard with the guard to the inside of the mount. I'll try and get a pic soon.

Here is how I put my hand guards on using power madd brackets...They may be on wrong but it seems to work once I get the riser.

hey crewchief47
awesome thanks for the pics i should be ok..one thing man i love those mirrors....whered you get them?

The mirrors on the old mans sled are the power madd add ons. Royal sells them as well. They're mounted different from power madd's instructions so that they don't stick out so far. Didn't matter anyway, he broke the right side at the end of last season.

Pics of my mounting with the PM kit.

Here are some more pictures of Powermadd hand guard mounts and my Rox 2" riser. You have work a little to get the Powermadd mounts to work around the Yamaha parking brake lever. I am happy with the position of everything. However, I have not ridden with this set up yet. Only snow will tell.

crewchief I like the mirrow setup you have on the powermadds. Rich was showing me somthing similar. I think I will do mine like that too. Looks more compact. Thanks.
