"my son's first sled". what was yours.

Hello,
Got a 1988 Yamaha Inviter CF300 when in was 7 in 1991.
was a Great kid's sled as it had electric start, liquid cooling, simple single cylinder, finger throttle and a big backrest. still got it today.

First sled I rode on was a 69 Ski Dadler with my dad . Then A 71 Ski Doo 399 Nordic .
And then A 73 JDX4 . Then when I was about 15 I bought my own 71 440 TNT.
That was a good sled , had that for a couple years . Got away from sleds till about
5 years ago . Got a 74 JDX8 . (Price was right ) did that for a season and a half .
Then bought my 03 Viper and love it .

My dad had a 68 sno crusher I could almost beat it on foot LOL!!!

First sled

My first sled was a 1971 Sno Jet Star Jet. The moved on to a 79 Enticer 340.
I then made the bad mistake of getting a 83 Polaris Indy Trail. Afer that went back to Yamaha with a 83 SRV. I now drive a 92 VMAX 4 and my wife drives a 1998 Vmax 600 XTC. The kids drive the 83 SRV which still runs great.
We also still have the Polaris but no one likes to drive it. Yamaha's have by far given me the best service. I can't count how many Skidoo's I have towed over the years. Looking forward to another great winter.

my sled

It's so funny hearing about the old sno-jets,,that was my first sled a 77 339 sno jet with a yamaha engine in it ,that thing ran perfect, except my scarf would always get cought in the carb bogging it down(cover was missing). Then my brother bought a 78 exciter red/white and black,,I thought it was the fastest thing ever,no suspension but them things ran forever. My first one that I actually bought with my own money was a 81 exciter 440 black and gold with 500 miles on it,loved that sled too.Now own a 2001 srx with some mods still have all that yamaha quality and reliability I will never change.............. :rocks:

my dad ownes a arctic cat shop and has since the 70's he is out of selling them now but still repairs some and sells chainsaws and lawnmowers so since he sold them new i started very young on a kitty kat

thats pretty funny, my dad and mom had matching sno-jets and moms would always slow down. they couldnt figure it out because when they would change sleds it would run fine. turns out that she was stuffing the extra gloves she had down under the handlebars.... right where the carbs were lol!!! once dad noticed her doing that and told her not to, the sled ran fine :)

I picked up a 1978 ET250 off the side of the road before the garbage men picked it up. 2 weeks later I was ditch bangin with the boys. That was 2 years ago and I was 35 years old. I'm a late bloomer, but making up for lost time. I love this sled!

96 600xt. Yup, no snowmobiles for me growing up in PA. Met my wife and her family got me hooked. Moved here to MI and bought one from within the family.

My first was a '79 Exciter 440. I rode that dang thing for one whole winter with a fouled plug and still loved it. Then my dad fixed it up a bunch for the next year and it was like a whole new sled! That's when I got hooked. After that I bought my first sled: a '93 Polaris XLT SKS....then.....

'97 Polaris XCR 600 SP
'99 Polaris XC 700
'02 Yamaha SXViper
'06 Yamaha Apex ER
'98 Yamaha Vmax 700 XTC
'05 Ski Doo MXZX 800 PTEK

I also had some project sleds that I just bought and re-sold:

'98 Arctic Cat ZR 600 efi
'94 Yamaha Vmax 600
'97 Yamaha Vmax 700 SX

amf skidaddler, had a 399 hirth, next a bran new moto-ski gps, artic pantera (BOTH 1980),ski -rule rtx,1989 formula plus, bought and rebuilt a 1979 44o intruder last year, then bought a 1994 v-max 600 also last year.oh almost forgot the undisputed cant kill machine the ever ugly 1970 12/3 olympic which is still to this day giving kids their first taste of snowmobiling.

'73 John Deere JDX

Never bothered owning sleds before that 'cause the cousins always had fleets of them.

I am not positive what year it was but my Dad had a GP292 that was my first ride. I was 5 or 6 years old and it had the open carb on it that would spit gas all over you. Ahh good times. Your son will remember that sled for the rest of his life.

My dad bought me a '87 bravo when I was six. I still have it. Haven't touched anything on it. Just clean the carb once since i've had it. Still runs like a champ.

My Dad bought me a skid doo citation 340ss when I was 15.The following year I bought my own sled it was a 87 phazer I put 2300 miles on and someone stold it.Talk about a depreessed 16 year old kid I worked all summer to pay for that sled.I had no insurance. So the year after when I was 17 I had two jobs and bought a brand new 98 yamaha xtc 600.
