Viper is On the go... Deto Around 7500-8000

there is no certain amount that is supposed to be there, you need to take them out or put them in according to how high/low the belt is sitting in the secondary.

Alright... ill check the belt height now in a bit, I just got in threw the door and im pretty cold. I got some more Pictures At my Dads. Sled is working real good..

I was doing about 3/4 throttle and the PTO side EGT climbed to about 1240 and the others were down at 1150.. Is this normal for the Jug with the least amount of Compression to be the hottest.. maybe i need to Rejet that jug up a size.?

My arms are so sore from all the pulling and holding on the sled..

Auji you been told countless times not to read off your EGTs for jetting specs!!!!!! PLUG AND PISTON WASH, grab some tape and cover that gauge THEN jet. My Redline EGT Gauge instructions say WARNING DO NOT JET OFF THESE GAUGES, read plug and piston wash. I was told this long before I purchased my pipes, and I'll do so so I dont end up with a sh** a** motor.

Man... Ive checked the plugs over and over and they all read that they are burning Good... all brown. Besides the Pto is a little Lightish but not by much to the others, but im just afraid to burn down, can ya help that? I was told the PTO was the Jug with the least amount of compression thus creating the least amount of heat. but from these gauges its the complete opposite. Sometimes the temps flucuates from all 3 jugs but on a longer run or just reving the sled up and down on trails the Pto is hotter most of the time.

Auj do yourself a favor and dont just go by plug color..check wash.
I know the last thing you want i sto burn down again.
It is worth the time to check down the cylinders or pull the head.

Get your head modded or get a aftermarket one so you can jet straight across. Sound easier to get her tuned in when all the cylinders are the same compression...... I think so, thats why I went aftermarket, I didnt need to cause I had a CPR modded head in hand but I sold it for more cooling cap. I'm protecting my investment as I like to call it, cause I know what parts run for these sleds....NOT CHEAP..... I'm not trying to bust your chops AUJI just reminding you what I have been told to do countless times even before my pipes have been installed.

ExpertX, Its cool man... I have a 2nd head i can send out to CPR Or bender but i need a question. I know i got both their Phone numbers in this thread but can they cut The head For DCS along with cutting it for the same compression along all 3 Jugs?

I like...LOVE the DCS feature the 04's and 05's Viper have. i willing to spend about 200$ on a head with DCS.... I was thinking Aftermarket but i dont think any aftermarket Head gives the DCS option....or do they?

What is the BEST Aftermarket Head for a piped viper OR can i get the DCS cut into the head along with them cut to it to equal off compression.

I havn't really Looked into getting aftermarket heads but i guess its worth it.

Mega Power, SRX Heads, Peak Perf, Speedwerx is the order I'd go with. Water rail type heads will cool your cylinders more evenly, unlike the stock. Getting around the DCS with aftermarket heads is something youd have to take up with MRVIPER or other KNOWN TY motor guys. Cause I dont have a clue and havent heard of it being tried, but what do I know.

Didnt you have a SRX top end with heads that you thought would work with your benders?????

the heads are cut for Race gas, high compression. right now i can't afford to put Supreme gas in it, Espically not High Octane gas. I will get ahold of Don and see if he can do something to the Aftermarket head to give me the DCS option....

ExpertX, Can you get me a Site for ordering.. from your best to worst to say?? now i need to get ahold of MRviper.

More than likely your only gunna find Megas on this site used, there no longer in production. And more than likely your not gunna find a complete head set up for a SRX but ya never know, best bet for that is ebay. Or you can go with a Peak Perf. Head which I know there compatible with the DCS and is also a water rail type head. The Speedwerx head would prolly be last on my list just cause it isnt a water rail type head.

Peak Performance Products
970-240-4233
Call them and see if there heads are ready, I have talked to them twice in the last few months and there heads werent ready for the season. But its been about a month since I have talked to them, so give em a call... Nice guys.... If you do end up goin with a Peak head go through Peak Perf. NOT Mountain Performance INC.

But again ask MRVIPER about all this sh** cause I'm no engine builder, just some punk. I went with Megas cause I got lucking and got my hands on a set. Best looking heads and most cooling cap. of all the aftermarket heads. But there still not sitting in my hands though, but there on the way. FINALLY

I dont know the canadian laws, ( i dont even know the american laws for that mater) BUT,,,, anytime you have detonation, most likely, is caused from OPPOSING flame fronts in the combustion chamber.. We can get into flame kernals and BTU values of 2 stroke oils,,,but,,, lets keep it simple... You want to get the fuel to atomize less... What I mean by that is EITHER cooling the cylinder down by adding MORE FUEL at the point of detonation OR slowing down the burn time of the fuel... You can probably buy tolulene or MEK from a paint supply store,, but those are dangerous if you make a mistake (spill),, your sled won't be too pretty anymore!!! Octane boosters WILL solve your problem but WATCH OUT what kind of booster you buy.. personally i recommend KLOTZ,, but GET A MSDS from the company's website and LOOK AND SEE WHAT chemicals are doing the boosting!!!! THE DCS system notices detonation... When the orange light flashes,, it lets you know the cdi box is actually RETARDING your timing until the detonation goes away... The EGT's will show a drop in their temps,,,creating a cooling (if you will) sensation in the combustion chamber,,,, I think there is a preset 4 degree drop, but common sense would tell me that it would keep retarding the timing until the knock goes away!!! 1st... try 92 or 93 octane,,, then octane booster,,, then rejetting,,,before you go for the head mods!!!!

you DONT want to get away from the DCS system!!! I mean COME ON,, it SAVES YOUR MOTOR in the event of DETONATION.. I wish you could see what detonation does to a motor!!!! In years gone by,,, people just melted down a motor,, now there is a system that keeps you from changing pistons all the time.. AND YOU want to get rid of that?????? You say that you cannot afford premium fuel,,but CAN YOU AFFORD NEW HEADS and cooling rails, and reeds, and clutch parts, and EVERYTHING else that goes with when you start to MODIFY a PERFECTLY (almost) engineered sled????? the engineers (I choke when i say this) at YAMAHA MOTOR CORPORATION are some PRETTY SHARP GUYS!!!! A LOT sharper than mark Giamattei (mega power) and the rest of them!!!! Yes, i remember the 1981 SRX motors and also the 1998SRX crankshafts and also the VIPER fuel pumps,,, but,,, come on guys,, they can create JUNK once in a while!!!

so you cant afford to pay what 5-10 cents more a litre of gas, but you can buy aftermarket heads? :horsehock

lets say you get your head done for $100, for 10 cents more a litre that would be 1000 litres of supreme. more than enough for the year.
