Well finally got the beast home.Got some work ahead of me.Sled needs to be cleaned up a bit.Looks like one ski needs alignment.Took it out for a few minutes and what a different feeling sled.Pin it and wow front pops up and she shoots like a bat out of hell.Actually stood on the back boards and wheelrd it 3 feet..that is crazy. Will have to play with the transfer rods. Will check track tension, one boogie wheel is chipped so I got my old ones from my 600 I can use.Guy told me he was only using regular gas in it,ican use midgrade or should I just stick to premium.Belt riding a bit low in secondary, will check that.Need to take clutches out and clean. Will put my 15.6(new) rollers in and takr the old ones out.He said it is bone stock..clutching...and jets are stock.Sled came from Minnisota,so elevation is not really different.right.Will check steering rods for any bend in them and front end bushings.Track is stock with picks, still looks not to bad.Anyways really had not any chance to look at it closely.Came home..ate supper and typing this.I am going into the garage for a while to look things over. Will come back on here later. Here are some picks.

congrat's on your new purchase!!! you will love this sled. not that great in the deep stuff , but on the trail or lake --that sled rules!!do not run reg. fuel in the srx , stick to the 91 or higher. you will dedonate if you choose to run any lower.you srx is the last year yamaha made them, if i were you ,no madder what, hold on to her. she will be worth alot of coin in years to come.i will forclose on my morgage before i sell my 99 srx 700!!! like someone on this site said before--if you keep adding new parts,it will always be new.ENJOY!!!

Well I just filled it up with premium fuel, that's all I use anyways.Checked the compression, she is dead on 120 psi right across.Plugs are a nice brown color also.As I dig deeper I see things .Took clutch off,and I'll tell ya it wasn't hard to pull like my SXR600 first time.Hardly any pressure with the puller and she released.Think it wasn't torqued enough. One windage plate is loose on the secondary because it rattles. Will locktite the screws back on.I'll do both sides .The part that holds the air filter is loose and front of it has a chunk missing. The part below that has all the plastic retainer clip holders broken.Someone was rough with it.Will see what these two items will cost me.The rivets in the clutch are stock, you can tell by the way they are pressed on,not hammered one.Helix looks stock. No cracks on the clutches anyways. One thing for sure he told me was that the tach doesn't work.I got him to drop the price to $3700 because of this.He said a new tach is about $260.00.Maybe someone on here has a tach from a 2002 SRX.Love the double buld headlight, nice and bright and the hi-beams really light up an area in front of you.He said he was using synthetic oil,so I had some Amsoil and put it in to top it off.I use Blue Marble in my SXR,should I use that oil in the SRX or what you think is good.Another good oil he said is good, and I have used it and still have some is Shell Ultra Advance 2 stroke oil.Noticed the track really hangs down when I lifted the sled on stand,to much sag...1 1/4".Will tighten up to approx. 1/2" sag.It has picks on the track and I don't need track balooning going on.Heat exchanger are in good shape. No sign of damage under belly pan,has a black skid protector installed.Trailing arms are straight,a little rusty under them from scraping snow and brush,gravel..etc.That's normal.May take them off in summer and repaint them.
So I will need a tach so I can monitor my rpm's.But the fuel gauge works.
Throttle free play looks like 1/4".That is to much I think.Should be .04-.08 in.And the oil line free play should be what?I have no manual for this sled.Would it be the same as my SXR freeplay?

MORE TO COME>>>>>Ihate to say it....another 500 posts in the future.

The work begins!

You'll have to long travel that baby, so you don't break that older back of yours!!!

Those picks really help pull the front end up!!

Have fun, but don't neglect your wife!! She was nice enough to let another sled into the garage.

Got to go to work today to pay off the SRX.Up early this morn.Got the triple pipes and can off.Now I can change chaincase oil and check tension of chain tonight. Will also re-align the steering system, will loosed tie rods and re-ajust the ski's,they are off a bit.Noticed last night I need new carbides for sure.Ski's are not cut up or beat at all.Like to put new ski's on,which ones would you recommend.Would a ski widening kit be a good idea to.Have to order that tach today also.May also get a new windshiel in blue.Man this is all adding up to more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.I am crazy and broke ...but loving it.Need to feel the power.
Got everything greased up last night also.Nothing is broken anywhere on the skid. What would you guys adjust front shocks at..center and FRA at and the limiter straps at. Looks like straps are really tightened up here now.

not sure if you need a tach you might want to hold off and do a little research they are cable driven so there could be something else wrong. check all of the electrical plugs in the gauge pod. also plan on protecting you're engine harness under the engine.

I have one from a 98. Someone will likely know if it will work. Let me know if you want it before next week. I am heading to the mountains and will bring it back.

I would check the powervalves in case the previous owner didn't, but sounds like you are thourough, so just in case you didn't think of it.

I Have A 2002 Srx As Well I Love It, I Added A 136" Cross Country Extension Kit. It Really Mad The Sled Grip Hard And Put Alot Of Fun Into It. Like It Wasent Already Fun To Ride... 136" Mountain Performance Kit Is Highly Recomended By Me...
