SRX 1108 Race Sled Buildup

I will be reinforcing the cases this time around, with a combination of aluminum channel or plates that I will probably have welded to the bottom of the cases, as well as some Devcon work with steel rods.

Jabber and I headed down and picked up a new set of cases today, so we're going to get going on them tonight or tomorrow. It was about a 450 mile round trip to pick them up, and I managed to blow the turbo in my WRX. Let me tell you that it runs like a 50hp car with a completely seized turbo....truly lovely. Yet another expensive day......

That sucks...I drive a heavily "massaged" 2 door Impreza RS...love my Subaru!

Ya, it's not the best. It is under warrenty though, the car only has 25000 miles on it. This turbo was already replaced once, 10K miles ago because the wastegate spring softened up on the other one and was opening up prematurely. So this will be the 3rd turbo in 25K miles. The shitty thing about it is that I have to bring the car to the US to be fixed under warranty, since it's a US vehicle, and they won't warranty it here.

The cases have been machined. The new job is night and day better than the existing cases. Today I filled the entire webbing on the bottom 1/2 with JB Weld to give it more strength, and to help it stop twisting from the added power. However, I added some Acetone to the JB weld to thin it out so it was easier to pour, as per JB Weld's instructions (1 tsp. per 2 oz of JB weld), and it does not seem to be curing. It had better cure by the morning or I just wasted 8 packages of JB Weld. I am hoping to assemble the motor tomorrow, and do some testing on Thursday.

Here's a picture of the bottom of the new case. I brought it into the house to keep it warm so hopefully this damn stuff cures overnight. I'm not sure you can tell, but I also had my machinest deck the bottom of the case so that it was nice and flat so I can either bolt or weld on a plate on the bottom to strengthen it up a bit more.

I was just curious who's hood is on your prostock. I run a br tech but they only make it for an sx and not an srx, so i have to make zues fastener brakets to hold it on. We had a bad wheelie after i changed over to fox floats dialing it in. So i cracked the hood up bad.

The hood is a custom build out of fiberglass. It runs a stock gauge pod, which I molded into the hood so it looks like 1 piece.

Dan and I worked on the sled last night, fired it up and set it up a bit, until the time became a bit too late, and I couldn't run it anymore..........I do have to keep the neighbors somewhat happy. It feels alive again. I have to pick up some bigger pilots for it (25's) to setup the bottom end a bit better, but it's getting close now. I am going to be doing some testing tomorrow on it.

Still ironing out bugs. The motor is still laying down after a few seconds. The ignition timing was way out. We timed it yesterday, and it was only running 10-11 degrees of timing above 7000 rpm. I bumped it back up to 14-15 degrees.

It is alot more alive on the stand. We are heading out to test again today.

Well, the motor is alive. It's a new beast, and hopefully will put down some good numbers this weekend. I wasn't able to do any testing though. I made one pass, almost killed myself, so I shut the testing down. The sled is a death trap on the test track. It needs shaved ice.

might see you out there this weekend. going to try to get into the demo rides. i will be the guy on crutches. hopefully there will be an apex xtx to try out.

I thought I'd throw up a few photos while we were testing yesterday.
