SRX 1108 Race Sled Buildup

Chassis is now all together. My camera is in mexico, so I have not updated anything lately. The lube system is finished in the skid, but I still have to mount the bottle and pump tonight. The only thing then left to do is pick up a brake line for the dual calipers, and install the reeds when they arrive. Mototassinari is building me custom Delta 3's for my application, and they should be in early next week. I'll get some pictures up when I get the camera back.

Now that's rather impressive! I didn't know they'll build a custom one.

Jabber and I are heading to Dynotech with the trail sled, and his 600 race improver. We'll be on the dyno on Thursday for anyone interested.
 
I fired up the race sled today for the first time. All I have to do now is bleed the brakes, and it's ready.

Excuse me while I go bleed the brakes....... :)
 
The trail sled made 181.1 hp at 8800 rpm, which is strangely high on rpm. Something funny is going on in the power curve from 8000 to about 8600 rpm, where there is a large dip in power, then a spike at 87-8800, then the power curve falls normally afterwards. It is missing quite a bit of power within that trouble area, and right now it is unexplained. It will probably peak 4-6 hp more at lower rpm, and over a much more broad rpm span if I can figure out the issue and get the power curve back to normal. I have a few ideas of what it could be. I'll post the curve after the weekend.
 
I couldn't run the race sled due to brake issues, so we only ran the trail improver.

We ended up running 125.2 mph on Sunday with the trail sled, which won the class. I believe 122.8 was second place. We should have won the class on Saturday as well. There was an issue with another racer running an improper sled in my class, which was a full race sled (210hp 800 full race motor built by Iantomasi), with a trail track. He was disqualified on Sunday, but wasn't caught until after the award ceremony on Saturday, so I am not sure if the win will end up going to me or not.
 
I need a brake lever that moves more fluid. The stock yamaha lever does not have enough stroke to move the required fluid to close the MCP calipers enough.

Jabber won the stock 700 trail class on Sunday, but did not run his 600 improver.
 
I have a reservoir/lever coming. According to Wahl, the Wilwood reservoir/lever will move enough fluid to accomodate my MCP calipers.
 
Well, I finally took out the race sled yesterday for the first time. I drove down about 2000', probably only brought it to about 100 mph, turned around, and drove back. The track is so wavy that it is damn scary on this one with the prostock shocks in the front. It was bouncing like a kangaroo. I also managed to lose 2 studs, so that was the end of running since I need them to hold the inner plates on the carpet track. I also figure I was running too much fuel pressure at 7 lbs, since the motor was quite burbly, but I didn't get a chance to adjust. I'm also having battery issues. All in all, it was a damn crummy first attempt. I won't get out again until race day, so it'll be test and tune there I guess. Atleast the ice track willl be shaved and nice and smooth by then.

On another note, we decided to do a 1320' pass with the trail sled. It managed to run 116.9 mph. Not bad at all with trail studs.
 
Gotta love issues. I didn't get to run the prostocker on Saturday because I managed to spin the secondary clutch on the jackshaft, and it basically welded itself together. I had to pull the jackshaft out of the sled with the clutch welded on it, which wasn't a fun job. I took me about 8 tonnes of pressure to press the clutch off the shaft. Lovely, isn't it? I did get it back together on Saturday night at about 1:00 AM (Sunday morning), and brought it out to the track on Sunday, only to discover other issues that I thought were fuel pressure related. It ran down the track at a whopping 88mph. What a rocketship. It has a lovely burbley sound. It sounds something like the Tasmanian Devil. I'm 90% positive I know what the issue is, and I rectified it tonight. I am going to take it out tomorrow for some testing in the afternoon to see if it has been cured. I'll post results then.

On a lighter note, the trail sled ran 128.2 mph in 2000', battling a heavy sidewind.
