I need some feedback here. I love 2 strokes and I'm not real happy with the direction of the 4 strokes (for now). I love my Viper but I am so tempted to go with Ski Doo and try their new sleds. I would lose the sound of my triple but I would gain so much more with what they have to offer. Please give me some advice because I feel like I am cheating on my wife with these thoughts!!
hope you like those burndown motor lolllllllllllllllllllll

If your running a stock skid on your Viper, wait till fall and try and find a used Mono, ExpertX, M10, M12 and install it. The biggest down fall of the the pro-action sleds is the rear suspension it really has NO-ACTION. Only Doo or Cat I would ever think of buying is their 440 SnoX sleds. You really cant beat the reliabilty of the Yamaha's.

well you'll still be welcome here either way, even one of our mod's rides another brand. And truth be told, if I was buying new today, it wouldn't be a yamaha.

I'm just curious if you've tried a 4stroker yet instead of reading others post...?...I have 2 buddys that screamed arctic cat until a friend let them rider his apex...Within 2 months one guy missed out on an apex and bought a vector for the meantime..and the other is looking at jumping cats ship aswell...
Hey...I love some of Doo's products (ATV's included) and even saw some YouTube postings of the new Doo...but after I rode an RX1...I was sold...I couldn't even imagine what the Apex's, Phazers, Nytro etc are gunna be like...
Oh..and have you heard the harmonic tones of yamahas 4stroke fleet...hmmmm...
Good luck..and welcome to the site...

I've owned a REV for 3 years and I just picked up a '00 SRX. I'm looking forward to enjoying the best of both worlds. Fast groomed in the AM on the SRX and runnin' bumps in the pm on the REV. Variety is the spice of life.

I would give the new revs a year to be "de-bugged." doo seems to have a bad habit of going a little too far sometimes and having problems with them because of it. any first year sled is a gamble, and the new rev seems a little too new if you know what I mean. thats my thought

Ahhh Master feels young Grasshopper not satisfied. You must follow your dreams Grasshopper. If it is greener pastures you seek you must JUMP!! for you will not find them while standing up to your neck in a lush field of clover. Just remember your path so you may find your way back from the desert you are about to enter.

This is not a bad thread but there are a few smart A$$'s and cynics like me out here that have trouble being serious long enough to give a staight answer on your question. (sorry)
The bottom line is you will get all kinds of oppinions on what brand is the best and whether or not 4 strokes have any place on the snow.
I for one will NEVER ride anything but a Yamaha 2 or 4 stroke for the following, fit, finish, quality, reliability, durability and overall performance.
They are unmatched by anyone when you consider all these factors.
As far as Yamaha's 4 strokes go, they are the future and they are beautiful machines that are getting better every year. I have 2 stroke Yamies and will not be getting rid of them but my 4 stroke will be my main ride from here on out. If you haven't riddin one do it and don't be worried about liking it. They are not grocery getters but if you like putting on serious miles (as fast or slow as anything out there) with NO worries and tons of thrill they can't be beat.
Hope that helps, Phil (opsled)

as another serious question here. I remember when the 4-strokes came out everyone said that the 2-strokes wouldn't make emissions in 2004. 2004 came and went and they're still here. then they said that the 06 regulations would be too stiff and the 2-strokes wouldn't make it. Now those ones have come and gone aswell, and the 2-strokes are still here. Is there a stiffer set coming in next year?

I think 2008 is the year they get a break and then 2010 they get extra stiff on regulations since there was no new regulations for 2008. I may be wrong though.

hmm, right on. I looked over the EPA's site and couldn't find anything on it, but they're always so secretive, and they never really say what "stiff" or "super stiff" is gonna be. I mean I'd like to have some actual numbers, but looks like they don't let that stuff slip to Joe Average.
allwell, maybe I'll do some digging on the SAE site tonight.

Predictions are a dime a dosen and I don't hold much stock in them. I'll bet that alot guys that said 2 strokes couldn't make emissions were also saying 4 stroke wouldn't make it in the snowmobile world. So far they have both been proven wrong.
The advances in both 2 and 4 stroke technology in the last 20 years has been phenominal and shows no signs of slowing down. History will show that market demands and manufactures decisions on how to handle those demands will determine what stays and what goes. Yamaha decided to go to 4 strokes to meet those demands because most of what they build today is 4 strokes and it will probably cost them less to incorporate their 4 stroke technology into snowmobiles than to develope more efficient 2 stroke technology. Other manufacturers like Rotax have a larger base in 2 strokes and it is probably more efficient for them to advance their 2 strokes as opposed to developing new 4 stroke capabilities. Emissions are a factor in what they do but like all manufacturing of anything the market is the ultimate decision maker on what gets produced.
There may come a day when emission regulations bring a close to 2 strokes but so far they have been making the grade and I think it's clear that 4 strokes are here to stay so there will be a choice at least for now.
One prediction (Oh No) I would have on 2 strokes is that IF there comes a day when they can't make emissions I think you will see some considerations by legislators to allow them to continue. These guys always like to push their WILL onto us but if they push to hard and force a company to go under it could be political suicide and from my observations they like their jobs more than they like clean air.
