I long tracked my SRX 4 years ago with 136" M10. It was either that or buy a new sled - the suspension was killin me. Best thing I ever did. Bought new apex mountain last year - nice machine but H-E-A-V-Y!!! It's gone now and I'm back to old faithful and stretchen it to 151". I just can't find a sled I like as much as my SRX. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. BTW - even with the 136" and 1.5" camoplast it would still run with most 800's

I love what all you guys are saying about the SRX's.Never really got to really open mine up last season, needed some work done to it,ie)suspension. Now I long travelled the beast, new track,Heel-clickers etc. Can't wait to get it out on the snow.My bud just bought a brand new doo '08 800.Like to take him out on a straight stretch and pin my SRX.The SRX is a breed of it's own. Will never sell mine, could even look for another one with low miles. With the price of new sleds, unlikely I'll be buying a new one soon.I would like to get a set of SRX's.A 98,a 99,a 2000 and a 2001 to go with my 02 SRX.That would be neat. All for the price of one new one. 5 SRX's in my garage would be awesome.

i have both a srx and a 4 stroke, and i'm not bashing a srx because i love mine and it will never leave my possesion. but i know of a local dealer with 2 attacks with the 240 hp mpi charger kit that are for sale if you want power. i say buy a 4 stroke for all the obvious reasons and the last time i remember i was riding mine not bench pressing it so what does the weight really matter. and if you what about when they are stuck been there done that i dont care what sled you have unless it's an old elan or such you're gonna need 3 men and a boy to get it out.

The only sled i owned that rode nicer in the bumps and had more power than my srx was my 99 mach z.It had dynoport pipes and v force reeds and it pulled very hard with awsome top end.The only problem is it wasnt as reliable as my srx.My 98 mach z had lots of little problem(stators, fuel pump, electrical gremlins, cdi) and the the crank bearings let go and i blew the motor at 3500 miles.I bought a 99 mach z with the same mods, snapped a rod on the lake last year and wrecked the motor.I hear the old(98,99) xcr 800 polaris is pretty reliable and fast but i never rode one.
Yip, I'd have to agree! Although I've never tried out an Apex, I have put a lot of miles on my brother's 05' RX1 and I really like it. They may be a few pounds heavier than the SRX but I didn't find it at all noticable. Even jumping from it to a friends 04' Rev600, they both seemed to handle and ride very similar and if I didn't already know the RX1 was heavier, I couldn't have guessed from riding them back to back. The biggest difference I noticed between the two was the extreme lack of HP on the Rev.blue missile said:i have both a srx and a 4 stroke, and i'm not bashing a srx because i love mine and it will never leave my possesion. but i know of a local dealer with 2 attacks with the 240 hp mpi charger kit that are for sale if you want power. i say buy a 4 stroke for all the obvious reasons and the last time i remember i was riding mine not bench pressing it so what does the weight really matter. and if you what about when they are stuck been there done that i dont care what sled you have unless it's an old elan or such you're gonna need 3 men and a boy to get it out.

If you ever ride off trail or on Michigan 4 foot moguls you will feel the wieght of the Apex or Rx-1,that is why I sold mine. Tooooo H-E-A-V-Y!!!!Equalizer said:Yip, I'd have to agree! What about an 04-05 ZR900? They are nice sleds, good power, not to expensive. All around pretty nice sled.

This is all great info keep it coming. You have all talked out of the 03, 04 600 and 800 Rev. Which is not a bad thing since I want real life stories like you have provided. Here is a question for you. What was the fastest stock sled made in 03 or 04? Does not matter the manf. I always owned Polaris and then read up on the SRX's back in 02. I bought my first SRX back in 02 brand new and have never regreted it. They only reason why I bought it is because it was the fastest sled made that year. From that time on I have owned a couple more and loved them. I sold mine because I was just ready to try something different and maybe something that handled the bumps better.

I have been eye balling those also. I just have never been into cats and there is no specific reason why. I was wondering how reliable they were. I saw one on the lake a couple years back and it was FAST.

Polaris does make a nice machine. I used to own a 1997 XC 700 and that thing was light and ripped for it's time.

My friend has an 04 zr 900 and it is fast and it handles very nice and takes the bumps great. All around nice sled. Last year we raced out on the lake. He has a supertuned kit from crp in his 900 and I have a edge suspension with an old hauck clutch kit in it. I was hooking up pretty good and beating him out of the hole. From a roll he would jump me by about a sled and hold it. And in the rough trails the zr is much better.

That is pretty impressive that the SRX would take the slightly modded ZR 900 out of the hole. Even from a roll holding one sled length is also pretty amazing.
Good stuff

If I had to choose between the 800 Renegade and the srx I would take the 800 Renegade (even with all the engine issue's) it handles well and is plenty fast (srx to 100 would be close, I would give the hole shot to the Renegade but the long haul the srx would destroy it). They both have strenghts and weeknesses. Really depend what type of riding you focus on.
If you really want to go fast find an 2005 RX1 and turbo it.
Heck, for $7500 you can have both the Renegade and the SRX.

Thanks for the info. I am looking for a great sled on the trails but one you can also have some sort of showing on the lake. Begining to sound like I need to sleds for this Like for example the the the SRX was nice for speed and the trails it was just the bumps that killed me on it.

ski doo would be like riding a time bomb. i would own a polaris or cat before a ski don't. they might ride good and everything else but in all everyone knows it comes down to reliability. i would rather be riding than waiting for a crank that takes for ever to get.

What about finding an SRX with and Expert or M-10 already in it? That was the decision I made. M-10 with viper shocks up front and widened. I just sent the motor out to be ported my MrViper. In the end I should have the best of both worlds. Seems like that is what you are looking for.
