Comparing other sleds to SRX

i dont think ill ever part with my srx. im only 155lbs and that sled will just about dump me every time i pin the trottle. it just keeps pulling from a stand still all the way up through the rpms. imo i would go back to your srx and then just get a rev for a ditch banger. that is one thing i will give the rev, it can soak up some really rough trail like its nothing. my 2cents

Sold mine, another kid on the way. But, from my experience power to weight ratio is huge. The key is getting it to the ground (clutching, gearing, traction). I've seen many of the "other brands" run well when set-up right. I'm interested in seeing what the new rev xp 800r has to offer. The power to weight ratio is hard to beat on this one. The question is how well is it transfered to the ground. My .02. It's been great. I will still tune in every once in a while to keep up to date. I'm sure i will have some more blue in my garage when the kids get older. Forever Yamaha. Take care.

i would think of selling my 01. if i did that i would probably go with a mountain 4 stroke of some sort depending on $$$.

I don't know man - if I had a money tree in the back yard, it would be cool to take a SRX(pick a year) and start w/a good track, put a bender monoshock kit(or M-10,expert X ..etc.) put on a tall boss seat, tall riser block handle bars, a wide front end w/ longer stroke ft.shocks ,and a set of new USI (c&a ,slydog..etc.) ski's and RIDE .......to get you kinda close to a newer chassis(rider-centered) as in a REV , or the new FX nytro. The new IQ chassis polaris's are close, but in my opinion , I've owned 2 SRX's 98'and a 00' and a late release 03' REv 800X and i currently ride a 04' rev 440 chassis with a 600HO motor in it. Never had ANY problems with the 800 rev(3500miles) and the power was close to the SRX. I rode it STOCK for two years and loved the power-I guess there is alot I could have done to make it better, but didn't feel the need-believe me EVERY yamaha I ever owned I spent alot of $$$ on clutching,reeds...etc -just to get them to run good.
You and most of the replies are correct though -there's NOTHING like the mid-range - to - top end pull of the SRX's (the howl of the tripple was awesome also)- SACRAFICE man - unless you want to spend some$$$$ - look into a new Dragon 700(800-maybe,late release) or take a chance on a newer REV800-the light weight and chassis are worth it- just buy from someone you know/trust - or find a leftover ????? or spend some $$$ on another SRX !!???
You can't take the stuff with you when you die!!!! Enjoy it NOW!!!!!

I love how people are still comparing the srx too all the newest machines out there and the newest srx is gonna be 6 years old do you ever hear people talking about the old ski-doo's and the old cats minus the Tcat and i never hear about a old polais..... I love how a stock srx with clutching with give any new sled a run for its money... IMO you just cant beat it.. you also see alot going for sale now... time for me to pick up another one i think..

You make a great point. Plus I think the look like a real muscle sled.

You make a good point there 2001SRX=fast.While riding my 02 SRX last year in my area, all I see are doo's and cats. When they ride up towards me and notice the SRX,they just shy away. They don't wave or nothing. It is cool to be blue. It's their problem, not mine.
:bling: :bling: :bling:

I have ran into the same thing. There is a field next door to my house that everyone comes to for racing and it seems everytime i go over there they all leave. I watch the f7`s wompin on a bunch of smaller sleds so i figuire i`ll even the score , wrong answer! It`s always time for them to leave....LMAO

PS: I LOVE MY SLED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Snow Racer Experimental.
This is my 6 th Yamaha product that I have owned, and will make 7 in the future.I live in Artic Cat and Ski-doo territory,so don't see many Blue Sleds out here. Will have to keep them sleds in line out here.I am the Sherrif on a
SRX 700,will teach them a thing or two....LOL.

Can tell you don't bleed blue. :yam:

I bleed white (I love snow). My Renegade went down at 2500 miles, I'm currently rebuilding and it should be good for another 2500 at least. My back doesn't care what color the sled is but it cares about ride and comfort. The srx is a great sled and other then power valve problems it was trouble free and great to ride (when the trails were smooth). The ski-doo rev is the best buy on the snow for ride (IMO). I had Man Love for my srx too but after a few weekends of getting beat like a red-headed step child while my friends rode in comfort I gave in. I miss my srx on some days but for my up riding my back appreciates my decision.

As far as replacing the suspension, save your time and money (leave that to the engineers at the respective company's).

Good luck,

Riding in 8 weeks. :letitsnow

daman,

I tried that. It worked Ok for most of the last 5 years but I gave in and my body thanks me. I still own a yamaha and if not for the cost I would have a new Nitro in my garage. I just can't justify the expense yet. One good snow season and it may happen.........Until then the Ski-doo will have to do.

Thanks Bill D

Ya i know just giving ya some sh*t my brother, LOL :)

What about this instead of the Rev 800. Someone mentioned I should look at the 05 Viper which has the same motor/Hp as my 01 SRX did and is lighter. I think he mentioned there was like 4 or 5 different model vipers in 05? Would an 05 Viper handle any better in the bumps than the SRX did? From researching both the Rev 800 and owning the SRX it seems the Rev will be much better on the trails. On the lake the 800 Rev will get the SRX out of the hole for a bit and then take over the REV. This is of course if both sleds are completly stock.

Thanks

Huh?

somone gave bad advice, when did a '05 viper have 145 hp and the same as a srx, wrong.

you mean mabye vector?

Maybe he meant Vector. Did the 05 have the same motor as the SRX did? I am just finding with the 03/04 800 Rev I am going to have to do rings, seal the crank and re build shocks if the sled has around 2K miles and has not been done.

The '05's had the same motor as always, triple cyl.700cc,SINGLE pipe with power valves.with alot less power(vs. the srx)

The vector in '05 had 4 stroke 3 banger(973cc) 120 hp. and heavier.
