hey guys new to forum, new to snomobiles,

got a 94 500 vmax with hole in piston from step brother, been sitting for 5 years.

i got new piston rings gaskets, put her back togeather, started on first pull idles and runs great. has dg exhaust and seems to be stock other than clutch mods ? i am going to assume they jetted the sled properly with exhaust, not sure though.

problem- has exhaust temp gauge at first both were dead on, shut sled down after break in and 2 days later started the sled. now they are about 150 degrees different checked temp with lazer therm. confirmed that they indeed are different. lower temp on the repaired cyl.

iam very mech. inclined with autos was tech. know nothing about sleds. or 2 stroke in general other than general ideas how they opearate.

was wondering if you all had any ideas as to where i should start ? is this a problem @ all or how to move forward. seems odd and i dont want to let it run for linger than a min if there would be a major catastrophy.

sorry about long post just wanted to give all info, any help appreciated

thanks

check for an exhause leak by the flange, my GyT pipes are notorious for leaking there, if those are similar they have rings on the flange we usualy put some thermal adhesive as well to make sure it seals off.

well i am trying to get a compression tester and im not really sure how to check jetting ? dont know where to even start on that subject ?

well you need to find out WHY it burnt down or it'll just happen again,
don't just assume they jetted the sled properly, you need to know for
sure.

remove carbs and clean, take all jets out clean with carb cleaner, blow
all passages in the carbs out with CC then blow with shop air,you
want to see light through the jets when looked through..

check float height and record what jets and needle position you have,
you need to know where your at a starting point so you can adjust
from there..

read this

ok did compression check 120 and 119 gonna clean carbs and check jet size and clip position ? not sure what the clip position means ? did look at that link and is very helpful. not so intimidated by these babies now.

well got those stinkin dirty carbs cleaned they are mikuni and were not like the ones pictured however very easy to clean exhaust tems are both right on now. however the air idle ??? screws were very far apart one on damaged cyl. was about 3/4 turn out other was about 2.5 set both at 2.5 turns and she runs awsome just want to make sure how to adjust them for lean condition ? and what are the adjustments on the cables that run to the sides of the carbs? these are main jets ?

stock on the fuel screw;s 1 1/8 out so your a little farther out(rich)then
stock, may be ok,if you get a off idle bogg you'll know.

what cables you talking about?

there are 2 cables that screw into the left side of the carbs they look like they come off of the thumb throttle ? they have what looks like jets with springs connected to the cables and in the middle of these cables are sleve adjusters ? what are these for ?

got ya of course you flip the lever and the chokes come on , awsome well you guys have seved me a million thanks alot. we are going to ride ehr this weekend and ill let you know how it turns out.

again thanks

first off i forgot how much i like sleds, what a blast.

she has done alright, there is a lot of mid range hessitaion, low and top are great. thinkin we need to clean those carbs one more time. i cleaned out the 4 year old gas but who knows ? mabey even an inline fuel filter ? this sled gets horrible fuel milage ? any ideas ?

i will do that asap . the more i looked @ those pics on the carb cleaning link they are the same only they dont have those plastic plates on the bottom. where and how can i change the needle height on the carbs ? is that through the top of the carb ? under the plate that is held down with the allen head screws ?
