more people need to car pool to work or use a pedal bike. for 3 mounths i rode a 18 speed pedal bike to work 6 miles one way, i,m heavy duty mechanic so i was on my feet all day long, to say the least i felt very healthy and fit in preety short time. lost the motor in my truck , so had to save up for new motor, right now in canada we are at 4.oo a gallon and some places 4 an 1/2 , dam rights its making me think twice about what i drive and how far. for next winter some of us are going to travel togeather when we go to sled races in stead of going individual, to share the expense. with the boom in Alberta, you guys are being paid well. And you don't have to pay sales tax, your gas is cheaper there then where I live. Why would you care about saving on gas then.I guess you got to save for that expensive engine for your sked.

Wow! That is interesting! Seems like you know your way around a refinerey!nosboy said:EVERYBODY in CHICAGOLAND buys from EXXONMOBIL or BP... THATS IT!!!! 2 REFINERIES!!!!! 40 different brands and 2 refineries...... CITGO isn't even in contention anymore... (yes, they have a little refinery in LOCPORT))) but they do about 1/2 of 1 percent of the business in chicagoland!!!! You guys need to WISE UP and QUIT YOUR BITCHIN!!!!
I can't believe the knowledge available on this site! I was actually thinking the not buying from exxon would work but after hearing your knowledgable argument I might have to change my mind! Although, you do seem a little harsh with how you present yourself.

Still seems harsh! Its not very nice to talk to people that way. Its one thing to voice an opinion but another thing to try to belittle another human. To each thier own and that is what makes the world go 'round! I am impressed with his knowledge but not his communication skills.daman said:Thats just our Gary,he love's driving home his point.

I picked up a small car that is capable of getting 30 mpg and my truck sits in my driveway. Now both have almost 200,000 miles and aren't worth anything. The good thing is/was I switched to driving the car over my truck and the money I spent on gas just went to paying the payment on the car. And that was at $2/gallon.
I wish I could get away with driving a bike to work but i don't think it would fly for my length of commute.

30 mpg can be fun too, I get a little better than that in my 00 civic Si. pretty fun to rev it to 8000rpm

The srx is sitting in my garage with all of the parts waiting on me to hurry up. I tore into the Ovation motor and want to get it rebuilt first and then I'll tackle the srx.
I have an 02 mazda p5 wagon with a little 2.0 16v and it's a rev'y motor. Not a lot of power for sure. The srx has it by probably 30 more hp and weighs probably a ton less.... I put on underdrive pulleys and it really helped mileage without killing my ac or alternator. I run good iridium plugs in it and keep the oil changed and it's a "fun" drive. It's actually louder than my truck when inside of it at speed. Hopefully the Colonel keeps on going!

I think it is supposed to be 115 or so. I have a CAI on it. The first cat is gutted and I have a mazdaspeed axle back along with the UD pulleys. Right now my snow tires are still on her and probably will be at least into mid april. I need to figure out why I keep going through sway bar endlinks on the one side.

Gary is right on a few things, but the govt could easily cap the oil companys profit. They are making record profits, billions of dollars, so the price of crude being $112.00 a barrel isnt dropping their profits at selling us 87 octane crap gas at $3.50 a gallon. The Govt gets 45 cents a gallon here on each gallon of gas sold, however, the gas station only collects 2 cents a gallon, they rely on you buying the candy, pop, etc when you go in to pay for the liquid gold.
All that simply needs to happen is the govt set in place a profit margin tax, it would simply double thier taxes on the oil companys after a set profit, they would have to reduce the price of gas this way. Will it happen, most likely not in my lifetime because as a "nation of the free" we dont exercise the right anymore. We just simply take it. This never would have stood back in the 60-70's, people would be picketing the companys and boycotting gas stations, trucks would stop moving, etc. We all have become a passive nation and we just take it because we dont exercise our own given rights. Isnt going to matter who you elect president, mc Cain, Hillary(good god help us), or Obama, high gas prices are here to stay because "WE" all let them (our own oil companys)take advantage of us! The stocks on commoditys have doubled, so we are showing them we need the oil and we will drive out own prices up, the stock markets down so people are investing in oil, why not record billion dollar profits, but we are all paying for it every day.
