grass drags yesterday

8ab,s & 8ca,s & 8bu-00,s are the same profile. They just weigh differently

I allways had way better luck running hc,s in a SRX with a helix closer to a 52/44ish!
Wow....2 stroke memories coming back!!!!

I had a set of 2 stage clickers in our piped 700 Sx last season on the grass. After much testing they ran very well.. We also tried the 8ca set up but never got it working as good as the clickers.. Tony you been running much this year?? We haven't seen the grass yet!! Work and home have been very busy, add in the 600 SRX improver I'm building for the NBSSR radar runs this winter and something has to get cut back..

below is a copy of my dyno sheet posted on dynotech's web site. this is from march of this year. peak torque is @ 8400 & peak h.p. @ 8800. this is a pump gas motor. tony, these are the same pipes you are using. if i run them @ 9000 rpm i loose 6 h.p.. jim @ dynotech will tell you not to clutch a motor to torque but clutch it to h.p..

bold on Jim ...for a 500' drag race?

Those specs are on a big bore motor. I will argue to the death that those pipes on a 700 cc motor need to run lower rpm,s. I tested them personally on 4 piped sleds that I owned for 6 years & they need to be lower. You can not compare rpm,s on a ported out big bore to a stock cc motor. My bender piped 700,s were tons faster at 8200ish holeshot climbing to 8600 max!!!
This was not just 1 sled but 4 of em I personally owned & drag raced every weekend!!!

500' 8600 rpm. trail, lake & long drag races 8800 rpm. my test was a warm motor & pipes. did not hook up to dyno cooling system. i have tunnel heat exchangers added into the cooling system. even on long lake pulls my heat exchangers are just warm.
pipes, heat & compression determine peak rpm. if i had high comp. the peak would be around 8600. the bore & trail porting did not affect the peak rpm. the reason your sled was quicker @ low rpm was because the pipes were not hot. you were making more h.p. @ low rpm's. as the pipes got warmer @ the end of 500' they were hotter & the power band moved up.

pops:

just ran accross an old dyno sheet from max performance. power inc. pipes on stock motor - 137.1 h.p. @ 8400 rpm. will scan & post complete sheet later.

BOB, MIKE etc. I ASSUME THESE PIPES WERE 9000. I WILL SAY THIS. WE TAR RACED THIS SLED. WE MADE GREAT INPROVEMENT IN THE 1/8. I THINK OUR BEST WAS 6.76 @ 98 mph. I BELIEVE WITH A FAIR 60 FT OF AROUND A 1.5. NOW THIS IS WITH OLD 121 AND STOCK SKID. SLED SEEMED TO NOSE DIVE IN THE 1/4. NOW AGAIN I KNOW WHAT IT REALLY NEEDS. MY ONLY QUESTION TO MIKE. DID,NT THE STOCK SINGLE PIPE ON THE 700 SX RUN THAT RPM. HARD TO BELIEVE THESE BENDER TRIPLES RUN AT STOCK RPM ON A PORTED MOTOR TOO BOOT. AGAIN GUYS NO DOUBT HERE. I WENT TO THE CATALOGS TO FIND INFO ON THESE PIPES. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Bender & power inc end dump run at stock rpm.
Power inc centre dumps run at 79-8100 rpm
I personally owned & tested on my own personnal sleds
Power inc end dumps
Power inc centre dumps
Benders
Simon cpr(earlier hauck) pipes

is that not unusual? porting(raising exhaust port) generally does raise peak hp rpm .no?

Tested em 10 back to back runs.....lower rpm,s were allways 100% of the time with out fail the quickest ET in 1000' or less. This was tested against other sleds week in & week out & I did check against running higher rpm,s. all 4 of my Bender piped sleds(2 were ported) behaved in the exact same way!!!

MIKE I AM GONNA DO A FULL BLOW,IN TEST SESSION SATURDAY WITH MY SRX ON CLAY, CHISELS, SUSPENSION SLAMED , COOL DOWN , etc THE WAY THE SO CALLED PRO,s HERE DO IT. HERE ARE MY PLAYERS.
21-40 GEARING
8BU-00 WEIGHTS
5100 ENGAG
51-43 DALTON CAM WITH GREEN SPRING /80 WRAP
WHITE MAXXIMUM SPRING
VS
40-10Y NOTCHED FOR 5000
RED SPRING
ABOUT 61. 25 GRAMS
51-37 CAM. @ 80 DEGREE (green)
THAT HEEL CLICKER SET-UP WAS TERROR THIS PAST WINTER, BUT RIGHT NOW IT SEEMS FASTER ON GRASS WITH 8BU. WE WILL SEE. THIS SLED IS SETUP. NO EXCUSES NOW. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Run the 51/43 dalton with the hc,s & slightly lighten up the tip. It will work better.
I don,t like that low finish angle on the 51/37 for grass. Your better off running the steeper finish in anything under 1000'

Turk how did you find the Simons pipes to compare with the Bender for drags and lake running.. We ran the CPR's and had decent results but I have a friend looking for a trail/lake set up for his SX. He has access to a set of Bender's and CPR's at this time but I haven't run the Benders so I can't recommend one set over the other.. What would your choice be after running both?
