nope, way too high on the price....It is a 3 yr old bike, and I know you can get a new leftover of any of the 1000cc bikes for about that, or less, and those have warranties.

If you are not very experienced, I would steer clear of a literbike. The new literbikes even can give me a scare or 2 , and I have a lot of experience on sportbikes, both on and off the track.
 
how do you get 3 year old bike out of an 07? are saying it was made in late 06 but its technically an 07 model year? it still has warranties i'm sure.

Horkn, what do you think is a resonable price for this bike? i know that the repsol edition is a 900 dollar option when new.

The 09's are out, so it is only a 2 year old bike. It is however on the previous chassis/ iteration of the 1000rr. The new cbr1000rr came out in 08. Honda's warranty is a 1 yr unlimited mile warranty, so it will be out of warranty, unless it was purchased new last riding season. Then it would have a warranty until it was exactly a year old. Either it was run for 400 miles over the course of 2 years, or even only over a few weeks. Either way, the price needs to drop a bit. You seriously can buy a new one for that price. If it were me, that cbr would have to be about a grand less than asking for me to consider it. Break in time is crucial for any motorized vehicle. I would rather start with a zero miler at that price.


How old are you, and how long have you been riding?

I like that version of the 1000rr, I just think that particular one raises a few flags for me. If you are dead serious about this, I can swing over the 2 miles from my house and take a look at it for you.
 
i'm 20, been riding street bikes since 16, alot this past summer, never owned one, but want to start big. I like the 600's but i want something big just for the hell of it, i hear alot of people saying they go to a 1000cc because they want more, i also hear alot of people downgrading to a 600 because its more forgiving.... I have yet to make up my mind, come march i will have a size in mind, right now its a literbike. I realize what can happen if i'm stupid or if my wrist decides to slip.

Seriously, at 20 years old, you really need to get a quote for insurance. I think you will be amazed at what even a 600 insurance rates will be. Most 20 yr old males insurance on a newer literbike will be extremely expensive. Like 2000-3000 dollars a year.

Did you ride dirt bikes at all when younger?
 
I'm not interested in going 180mph everywhere i can, if ever i get a chance i will, all this talk about 1000cc bikes being really bad for beginners is true, i would not consider my self green, but i havn't ridden a true 1000cc of this year, i've ridden 929's 954s and the 918's of late 90's early 2000's this is a different beast though...

Horkn, i will behave on a 1000cc i promise.
 
I got a quote for 1300 a year for that 05 cbr1000rr 2 months ago.

i rode dirtbikes and even harleys with screamin eagles on em!
 
The Repsol is a sweet bike but like mentioned is waaaayy overpriced that 05 is closer but still a touch high heres a GSXR 1000 at the dealership I work for with yes 500 miles on it bought new from us and the first service has been done and oil changed once a year bc he traded it in bc it scarred the Sh$t out of him and this was his 5 or 6 bike the gentleman was in his late 30s all stock and still has Suzuki ext warr til 2010

Also you bring up insurance check with State Farm I gauruntee(sp) they will be the cheapest (at least here in MI) bc they insure bikes based on motor size only not what kinda of bike it is

I do this stuff for a living and do quite few tracks days myself and I started on a 2004 R1 abd then went to an 06 GSXR1000 and now have an 09 GSXR 750 just because I rode a buddies stock 750 a couple times this last summer and had alot more fun on it then either of my 1000's Ive been riding for 8 years now and the 20 yr old mentality is nothing can hurt you and go big or go home just remember this a KIA and a Corvette can both speed obviously the corvette gets there quicker but the 600s and 750s have a lot more margin for error, take that with a grain of salt but I see it everyday and have sold more than 5 younger guys against my better judgement 1000s bc they had to have them and later heard about them on the news as fatalities and one other note 99% of the population can never max out a 600 on the track or street just a thought

What should that 07 repsol be priced at instead of 10,500? no idea what a good deal is... 9,000? i plan on walking in with the cash, and say take this or i'm leaving.
 
Yes, definitely check out state farm, but you will probably have to get your car insurance from them to take you.

Riding dirt bikes helps you a ton. Most newer riders on street bikes don't understand how to handle the issue of a sliding rear or front or both F and R when it happens. And that will happen a lot more on a literbike than a 600. Riding in the dirt will give you a huge edge over a true newb.

Riding any Harley takes points away from you. You know even a little 600 can spank a screaming eagle;)

I have been riding in the dirt since I was 8, and on the street since I was 16. I'm 33 now, and have yet to crash on the street in around 70,000 miles on the street and track. I have crashed quite a bit off road though.
 
Yea, my buddy upgraded from an fzr600 to a 900rr last year and one time he was out when the streets were wet and the tire broke loose and it scared the $h!T outta him, he handled it well though because hes been in the dirt for a while. not to mention on the street.

i got the 1300 dollar qoute from progressive, i am currently insured with my car with them, i was surprised it was only 1300 for full cov for the 05 1000rr!!! my liability on my car is 900 a year, which makes no sense at all, clean driving record, no accidents, guess the only thing against me is statistics with age.
 
I am not going another year without a bike, it was painfull driving a car behind all my buddies who have bikes, and riding those wheelies when passing me just is an insult... they know what their doing though, idiots yes, but F*kin sweet? hell yea! i won't be doing anything like that till i know the bike inside and out with experience on my own bike.
 
horkn, you've probably seen the guy on the Silver cbr900rr around town. its almost a chrome paint job.
