About the skunks, the trap has to be open so they can see through, and small enough that they can't raise their tails. Throw a blanket over the trap once the skunk is caught and then route the exhaust of a poor running vehicle into the trap. It is the most humane method we could come up with. I was once in an area that had a huge skunk infestation problem. It took about 5 years, and over 100 skunks but we finally got them under control. In that state it was open season on them year round.
For those that shoot them, almost everyone that I have seen shot has sprayed.
Note: Do not dissect one of the specimens and attempt to send the "perfume" to another country where they do not have them so people can get a smell of it. It won't make it all the way no matter how well you seal it. Plus you will vomit, and be avoided by other people for many days . . . Or so I've heard.
