I know yamaha has the most reliable motor but why does it seem like every one ( Brain dead fellers) would rather a bombardier or a Polaris or even worst an Arctic Cat ? More H.P? Better ride? Better drive train? Like WTF! WHATS UP WITH THAT?

Polaris and cats are cheaper per HP. I have always seen them as a cheaper sled to buy.

Polaris was made popular for years by their Indy models. Do they happen to make more poos cats and doos then Yamahas?

money, money. Yamaha's are the most expensive.
exactly what I was thinking.. everything in a hobby revolves around money... I also know for a fact that cat parts are MUCH cheaper then Yammie parts.

For example
Their clutch rollers are half the price of a Yammie roller.

X2 - bang for the buck.

You also have the buy American crowd which is kind of funny when you consider (except for the Liberty) Fuji and Suzuki were and perhaps still are the the primary motor suppliers.

Most I ride with are on Ski-Doos and just like all the others (including Yamaha) they have thier issues but I'd probably be on a Doo if not for Yamaha. IMO - Doo has made some impressive powertrains over the years and with a focus on weight reduction and rider forward, they aren't the tanks they used to be.

Your right about saying "they aren't the tanks they used to be". I had an old 90' formula plus and that thing was a tank. But, at the time I loved it.

It's all about the price. It is like a Vett to a Ferrari....Vett owners will say there's is just as good, but WE all know better. Sorry to any Vett Owners.
The Yamaha is a better built sled...I think, and Then the Ski-Doo. But that is just me. I just keep seeing alot of Cats pop the motor's. And I had a Polaris...was not a fan.

I think that for sure, guys skip Yamahas for the money reason. Personally if you look, a new Arctic cat 1000CC sled, compared to a Yamaha, they are getting closer in price, in Canada at least.

The thing I do not like about Cats is the amount of damn maintenance that has to be done to them. I ride with guys who all drive cats, and all they do is fix them. I had one issue on my 1998 Vmax last season, that has 13,000 miles with NO motor work, and that was a spark plug cap. Two guys I know had brand new A.Cats, and they both blew motors and did lots of other work.

Personally, I want to try out the new Polaris Rush. #$%&* I know, I know, I just said I wanted to ride a Polaris, but it looks sweet, and supposidly performs just as well too.

NOT SAYING THIS BECAUSE I AM BRAND LOYAL, BUT I HAVE SEEN YAMAHA SNOWMOBILES FOR PROBLEY 35 YEARS NOW, THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PRICEY, BUT THEY ALWAYS HAD GREAT WORKMANSHIP, VERY DEPENABLE MOTORS, AND FOR THE MOST PART, IF YA HAD A GOOD DEALER THAT WORKED WITH YA, YOU HAD IT MADE. THIS WAS THE WAY I SAW IT.
1, CAT, MADE LIKE CRAP, BUT ALWAYS HAD STRONG MOTORS
2. SKIDOO, AGAIN VERY POWERFUL ENGINES, BUT MADE LIKE CRAP
3. POLARIS, OLDER SLEDS WERE NOT BAD, GREAT TRIPLES, 3:16 (yammie tony)

out west

In my area in BC what I noticed is a few Cats, Yamahas, Polaris and a hatch of Revs. The most popular. Revs by far then Cat, Polaris and Yamaha. Most dependable Yamaha and 700 & 800 Mnt Cats. Polaris 800 Dragons bring a rope as well with Revs with 4500 miles. People here are buying Revs even though they will need motors usually after warranty is off. Why. they work so good in the steep and deep STOCK !! The M series Cat coming up next and with the 2010 who knows if it will rival the Rev. Polaris next but trying to build a rep after the 900 series and the new 800s. Yamaha most dependable best finish and most pricey but not great in the Mnts stock. At a $16,700 tag a lot of mods have to be done to stay with the rest
This is an observation in my area only no Bashing intended

I believe it is price and also dealer support. You don't see many Yamaha's around here because of the dealers not really pushing them. Like gild said in a stock form a Skidoo rocks out in the mtns, I've rode with guys and thats what they ride. Another issue with the Yamahas of today is the weight, they don't like the weight of a four stroke. Yamaha's also ride rougher than say a Skidoo, Polaris, or Cat, but I know which skid will last longer and take the most abuse.

Personally I'd probably also own a Skidoo, but I've seen too many times of motor issues, one of which was that Skidoo made the bearing tolerance too small on the crank and the motor locked up.

Polaris is also a well built sled, I rode a 600 a few years back, great power, great everything, but when your powervalve bolts are shearing off and the bottoms staying in the case, and all this happens when you go down the trail, no thanks.

Arctic Cat, well I rode an M6 when the powervalve broke on the rental, wasn't impressed at all. Also when I've heard of tunnels buckling, and when a dealer has a Yamaha and a Cat line, and they drop the Cat line because they are tired of all the maintence, yea no thanks. The old cat 550s, like the ones in a 96 cougar, a AWESOME motor. The new ones, I don't like the pipe right over the spark plugs, imagine having to wait for the pipe to cool before you need to change a plug no thanks.

As of right now I stick to Yamaha because I've never been left on the trail riding one of them, or seen anyone on a Yamaha get left on the trail, the 4 strokes are awesome, and I still love the old sleds. The bulletproof triples, the reliability of the 4 strokes, and the list goes on. The Yamaha motor is what sells it to me.

Lots of good points here! Once you've owned a Yamaha its hard to give up the quality + reliability to ride another brand.

I also agree the dealers don't really push them because they don't make any money on maintenance + parts...once a Yamaha goes out of the dealers door they usually never see it again and also they don't sell that buyer another sled for a VERY long time as we are proving on this forum with our SRX/Vipers/VMAX4s ect!!

Another reason, in the past anyway, was that the Yamahas tend to be built for a smaller rider, a lot of my friends say they just don't fit on them. I thinks that applies more to the pre 4 Stroke models.

LOL I've seen that video before and it's just a testament to the quality,or lack of, that Cat has.A bud of mine ordered a new Crossfire 800 only because of the price difference between that and the Nytro he actually wanted, this would be replacing the 01 SRX he has now and will be keeping. He is hoping that the past gremlins that haunt Cat wont affect his new ride but if it does he still has the SRX ;)! .In his own words he told me this summer that he doesn't trust the new sled which is why he kept the SRX,just to fall back on which begs the question Why buy a Cat to start with?

I sold my 04 136 viper and baught an 06 Crossfire 700. The cat is mutch better handling in the bumps. I can stud the track without worrying about hitting the front exchanger. It pulls hard but falls flat at 90mph. The viper would have spanked it in a long race but the ride and comfort make up for the loss in top speed. That can alway's be fixed with some clutching, its all stock for now. I havn't ridden the Cat mutch yet so i can't comment on the mintenence but over all the Crossfire is a better sled than the viper so far.

Ive got two yammies and an 07 M6 cat. The yammies are bulletproof. The cat hasnt been bad, service the DD, one recoil and a new y pipe in 4000 miles. I cant really complain.

hear kitty kitty

that was A COOL!! vido. i have i think? 1982 or 83 snow goer mag talking about 83 v-max. 1983 steel too this day it's all about the fit & finish!!!!!!!!.that's wy i owne srx 4 8 years the fit & finish + the awsome MOTORS.my brother had a xlt 95 not a bad sled a little top heavy with extra 12 in back.i had 2 s.o.bgen cats a 79 FreeAir JUNK. 94 zr580. every time whent up n. (BREAK DOWN).mid 90s got a 85 v-max loved it the twin pipes like 3 tuning piano forks!thers always some 1 with a pol cat doo a yamaha. loll. :bling: YAMAHA :bling:

LMAO that was a great video...I love yamaha's have been around my family since the eighties!! Count the number of other brands you see on the trail burned down and broken....either they don't do maintenance as a group or the brand makes a difference!!!! I think people buy other brands because the skids have been better in the past and they are cheap. I would rather ride a OLD yami over a new off brand for reliability.....my experience!!!
