so I turned it all the way lean......now
18oz oil to 4.6 gallons gas, 32.71:1
You had reported in the earlier post 17 gallons and 30 ounces?
The pump is a variable ratio output pump. Depending on snow conditions and how the sled is driven, the ratio will change. 50/1 may be a ballpark figure, but every time you ride the sled, it can change. Normal consumption on the twins (without a worn oil pump) has usually been 100 to 150 miles per quart.
amatosrx said:storms came over tonight to borrow a jack shaft and some clutch parts and to vent some of his anger tonight. also learned after 5 phone call that his sled never had the aluminum collar the is on the secondary bolt to prevent from over tightening so that the secondary has play. the previous owner misplaced it. i found a secondary for you travis and the piece you need for your secondary bolt. see you tommorow at gun lake.
Pete you are a SAINT!!!!!
I am sick of myself for how much I have to call....... Pete is always patient and helpful!!! I see how his Powder Coating and Polishing turns out so well!!!! Amato's Powder Coating Metal Polishing & Repair ......
I hope this is the last surprise!!!!
We got some awesome snow last night!!! Im gonna try to hit the trails...... cross your fingers for me and say a prayer if your religious!!!!!
I have another oil pump on the way and waiting on Paypal info and I think I have a jack shaft, other than that and keep it shinney side UP!!!!

I dont know bout that. When I was 12-13 I had a 12 speed that I had at least 3 huge wrecks on. So I bought a new bike and sold the old to a friend for cheap... stop laughing! lol. Anyways, two weeks later he was pushed off of it on purpose while riding down the side of the road... needless to say lawsuit. That F-N thing was cursed.

My warrior is cursed big time, more like possesed by demons
I would say it is fair to think this sled is cursed FOR SURE!!!!
So what do you guys think.?.?. If o replace every part, can I break the curse???? (max you sound experienced at this.... Given your signature and all.... LOL)

On a more serious note..... My sled bogs at low RPM.
I had someone suggest that it might be a lean condition causing it, I started a clutch thread and am not getting the expected reasults from the changes I've made...
I read in the tech pages that if your oil mixture is too rich it could cause the fuel pump to pump lean, causing a lean condition at the carbs!!!
My question: is 32:1 rich enough mixture it could be causing a lean fuel condition at the carbs????

You've come this far... keep rollin bro. I have no patience so I would have scrapped it long ago! But by doing so, you do know that you cant ever sell the sled right? It's damn near your kid now... a slighly deformed and mentally handicapped one... but family none the less. You're never gonna get the money, time, and effort back. So why even go down that road. LOL... YOU HAVE A BACKUP SLED FOR LIFE YO!!!
P.S. The story wouldn't be as good w/o having the sled!!!

onewickedr1:::: very few things actually upset me.
Comparing a sled to a child born with disabilities actually offends me.

I used to think that by changing stuff all the time it kept the sled in tip top shape. This year may be changing my mind. Hammertime weights, 16 miles of riding and blown primary clutch. Oil filter relocation kit, easy change of filter, lost oil hose from it= motor with a knock. Left stock I'd still be ridding, and have money in my pocket. $250 in mods is going to cost me 10 times that to fix my sled. I need a 2010 vector ltx stock tojust ride it and leave at a friends house so I don't get the urge o mess with it. Maxdlx

And to add icing to the cake I got laid off on Monday. This year is starting off real great
It is definately part of the family!!!
I will never be able to sell it!!!!!
Long term, I plan to make it as good as possible for my fiancé...
I have an itch for 1,000cc I'm gonna have to scratch!!!! I've heard a Lot of doo heads say with a motor that heavy in the front will be unrideable in trails but I'm gonna try!!!!

Awesome thread
Awesome people here.
Thought I would chime in with a few of my issues with a 97 600sx
Oil pump:
Make sure you get a 98 or later model pump.
The 97,s had a recall for excess oil use.
This happened to me, oil pump started really pumping oil, was so much that I burnt a piston, oil ratio was so high that is would run lean, too much oil, fuel too thick = jets wont pickup fuel like they should.
Brace on PTO side of frame:
I noticed in a later picture (One where sled is together with rebuilt motor) that the hack job brace was not installed.
The frame for sure should be repaired properly, but if not done yet I would for sure at least install the brace that was there before (As bad as it is). You were having clutching issues and if the frame is not correct your clutch alignment will never be right.
Bearings:
You have spent so much time and effort so far I would for sure replace all the bearings in the chaincase, jackshaft and drive axle. Just not worth the possible damage that a failed bearing can cause. And based on the abused nature of the sled what are the chances they are any good?
I have always replaced these on my sleds at 2500 to 3000 miles as a matter of normal maintenance. Had a couple issues years back and learned the hard way just do em. The damage caused by a failure is always way more expensive.
My 97 600sx has been a great sled. After I rebuilt and got the new oil pump (around 2000miles) I have over 8000 miles on it. Use it as a backup sled now but always reliable.
Was it raced?
Maybe but the 600 Yamaha twins were not the fastest sled around.
Probably just a terribly abused sled owned by someone with 0 patience or mechanical skills.
Good luck going forward
