Trying t0 figure out compression numnbers here???

Wait till it gets to -20 or so .Then go test again.These warm temps and sticky snow are really slowing the sleds down and screwing with the clutching. I noticed with a 15* change throughout the day I can go from a slight over rev to a 300rpm under rev and top speed varies at least 10 mph.
 

Whats your temps and snow condition?

list your compression testing procedure?

i highly suggest getting/borrowing a leak down tester in this case, i have a wright up on the procedure in tech,it'll give you a better idea the condition your rings are in.
 
I am basing my differences from last season's end.Plus 7 C and sled was ripping good.Got 118 on speedo 7 times in a row.This season,same setup and nothing over 95 to 100 .100 it was struggling and rpm's just wouldn't climb up to 8500.Mind you using the51/43 helix it wii climb to 8600.It is now with stock helix that it won't climb.All my clutches are good shape.Remember they were all re built summer 08.Even using same belt.
 
I have carbs off,exhausht off and now have taken reed valves off.On cyl 1 and 2 the center upper petal have a little chips or missing.I will take pics to show you.I am in the garage now typing this on the laptop.I have spare reeds from the 600 I took off 3 years back and replaced with Carbon Tech Reeds.Maybe I should take the carbon techs out and put them in the SRX.Like I said earlier it has the snap and pull like crazy midrange ..but seems like being held back on wot.This sled should be hitting 115 easy on the speed..like instantly.Sure the snow conditions are sugar like..but still not being able to hit the 100 on speedo is a joke.
 
got some oics and you can see some wear on 2 reeds.Also took pics showing light coming thru because reeds are not touching tight.This occurs mostly on the top reeds.The bottom reeds are more tighter.In other words if I push on the lower reeds they really don't push down except maybe 1 in the whole batch.But the upper reeds are all lifted of the frame with space between.I can push them and they go down.So the uppers are the worst.Can they just be worn in that direction.By taking them and flipping them shoulkd allow them to seal down tighter I am assuming..but gonna get the 6 reeds from the SXR since they aren't chipped.

daman..these are the originals,first time I had them out to look at.The 2 chippy ones need changing.Will go and check my spares from the SXR and see what you told me

Right but you never know who's been in the cookie jar before...if there chipped there junk.
 
well wouldn't you know it Yamaha has screwed me again.The SXR reeds are slightly narrower and the hole don't even match..what a bunch of $$$ grabbing azz's..... :o| :o| WTF is their problem......guess they will stay in there for now...
 
Hey Doug I was having the same problems with mine , I checked my reeds and they were good so I changed my fuel pump and now it is workin great. Just something for you to check!!!

Don't bring the pump thing into it now..... :o| :o|

Sled starts super great 3 to 4 pulls now.Even has started faster on empty carbs..so doubt the pump is shot.But may be something to look into next season.Used to try and start on empty carbs up to 80 pulls and then added gas to cyl.Last time carbs were empty it took only 24 pulls and no priming..

By the way mod..it is snowing out here right now pretty steady and snow tomorrow..looking forward to a full weekend of riding with the yami guys. ;)! :winterrul :letitsnow :letitsnow
 
Yeah Doug, mine started great ,Idled perfect, low rpm was great. Sometimes it would rev out and other times it would only rev 7000.Slack off the gas to let rpm fall below 6000 and crack it again and a way she go!!! But it would not rev out like it is now! WOT now 8200 and climb to 8400! My Baby was starving for juice!!!
