Back to the old hard-starting SRX situation

When engine is warm, you need to crack the throttle a bit and it will start.......

Can give an update on the sled now. As I posted before everything about my sled is new or replaced except the original SRX fuel pump and fuel line. I was able to test it throughly this last weekend 3 days of riding and 200 miles. During the day it was in the the low 20's and at night it got in to the single digets and down to 0 a couple of nights. In the morning after sitting in single digets W/ full choke it started after 4-5 pulls. In the evening in the 20's after sitting all day W/ full choke it took 4-5 pulls. Now the only time it varried is when I was out on the trail and we would shut down and relax for a while. Some times it took 1 pull w/o choke due to it still being warm or 10 pulls w/o choke due to it still being warm. So don't know why it would be doing that.

I've read and have had to crack the throttle a bit to get my '01 to start after sitting for a short soak - anywhere from 1-10 minutes.

Any longer, say 15-30 minutes it'll light on the first tug w/o choke. More than an hour and half choke. Over night - full choke.

FWIW - Had some friends over this Sunday and asked a bud's kid to start my SRX while I was cleaning my hands from tearing apart his Indy carbs. It was inside the cold garage and temp was about 15-20F. Told him to go full choke asked him to stop tugging if he didn't get it lit after 6 pulls. He's a big boy - 18yrs >6' >230#. After he pulled it 8 times he quit. I came out, turned off the choke and had it lit in 1.

The day before I started it in 4 pulls after sitting all week with full choke.

Again, I'm a lefty and am standing next to it when I pull except for short 1-2 minute stops without getting off. Then 1 pull will usually do and if not I crack the throttle with my left hand and tug with my right.

I'm not as big as my buddy's kid yet I got it started when he couldn't.

Works for me.

I put 12000K on my 98 Mountain SRX and it was never a good starter, especially first startup in the fall! Dealer was no help and told me all yammy triples were a bear to start. My carbs have always been kept immaculate clean, ran like a top, just a bear to start. I have read here with great interest and will be looking into some remedies suggested, thanks for the posts. For what it's worth--
My Viper has always been tough to start when cold say below 20 F, carbs always spotless, this fall because of ALL THE GREAT HELP on this board I shimmed and covered the stock fuel pump made sure that all fittings to the pump were perfect. But what helped the most is because I got myself out of the anal " More is better" mode.
I removed the second ( in line between the tank and pump) oversize fuel filter. I installed knowing of the stock one in the tank but with all the tiny orifices (sp?) in the carbs a second filter would make sure nada got through.
The Viper started last week in 10 to 18 below F in about 10 to 15 sec. GOOD enough for me. Finally. Six years of squirting pre-mix into one or two chambers for cold starting is over.
