98 srx 700, Hauck pipes and opened up air box. 152.5 150 150 jets. 1 1/4 turns out on mix screw. Had sled for 3 years now. Ran good year one, last year fouled plugs after 10 mins and this year it only starts for 10 seconds and dies. Also after i pull it about 15 times it locks up and rips the cord out of my hand. Cleaned carbs about 10 times, tested coils, replaced cdi, checked wiring. I am a full time heavy machinery mechanic and im ready to bring this thing in. Help before i loose my mind...Thanks.

Not an expert on SRX's, but assuming you have good compression and strong spark, I would try to put some pre-mix down the cylinders, and then if it starts and runs, you most likely have a fuel delivery system issue. Have you checked the fuel pump for flow? Is the gas fresh? I have always had trouble getting sleds to run on stale fuel.....from your description of the jet sizes, I assuming you cleaned the carbs and made sure the pilots were clear.

Brighter SRX minds will chime in....
 
Pump is strong and i poured premix down to get the gas pulled up after i cleaned but no cigar. Just get the short run time and she bogs out even when i try to feather it out.
 
Sounds like you could have a needle + seat or float level issue.
If the needle + seat is not sealing or the float level is too high the fuel pump will continue to pump fuel unrestricted and fill the crankcase with fuel causing it to run very rich and possibly "Hydraulic Lock" the engine when you are trying to start it.

If you elliminate the fuel system as the problem then it could possibly be the stator and/or the CDI. If the ignition system is providing weak, intermittent, or out of time spark it could also cause these issues...I'll bet that sled has a Hauck high RPM CDI on it to match the pipes and maybe its acting up.

Make sure you pop the floats off and remove the brass needle seat and check the "top hat" fuel filters as well.

Also ensure when you are setting float heights you measure from the flat area at the heal of the float[just prior to the edge of the raised rounded surface] to the carb body.

id check the filters as stated above, or may have a sheared key on flywheel? bad pickup coil? bad cdi? stator?
 
Checked stator. Checked pickup. Checked keyway. Cleaned out mickeys nest under engine. Checked wiring harness and put loom on. Not the probs.
Had it running for a bit and checked heat on pipes with the gun and had one cylinder running. Continued to rotate in random plugs from my garage and seems to fire on all three and run. HOW CAN I HAVE 16 BRAND NEW PLUGS BAD. I have iridiums, es's, and ecs's. Old rusty plugs from drawer work. Going to buy some new ones today and try em. Hopefully wont foul out in 10 mins like last year.
 
Change your spark plug caps...if you have that many plugs not working I would suggest you may have plug cap issues. They have a resister in them that can burn out after time and create issues like you have.

I agree!! Causes alot of plug fouling..
 
Plug caps are all new. I got it running now with some cheapo br9es i picked up. Got the carbs set pretty close. Have stock pilots at 1 1/4 turns out and it doesnt idle down now even with idle screw all the way out. Also must have broke my TORS somewhere in the proccess so i have it wired together. Maybe ill get the skis back on and beat the crap out of it later see what happens.

as for the original posters problems, i know you pulled the carbs and cleaned them again but, did you pull the pilot jets, and verify they would flow fuel by visually inspecting the oriffices? most idling issues come from the pilots being plugged. sometimes i have had to run a small wire through the pilot end to get them visually clean and clear. i then spray carb clean through both ends to verify they will "mist" fuel.

if you have the fuel screws out too far, it is time to go to a larger pilot. ski
