got to solve why my SRX won't scream as it used to

traced all the wires back from one side to another..back to the CDI area..found nothing bad. This is what the backside of the CDI looks like..is this normal or what???

MONSTER, I BET THE RANCH YOU STILL HAVE A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM SOMEWHERE AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, ITS INTIMITIN. WHICH IS THE WORSE KIND. I STILL WOULD START AT CDI. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I very well may try that trick of locking the valves in open position.... ;)!
you can try it, but i tried it once to try and find a similar problem and like jabber said it will be a total dog down low. mine wouldn't pull past 6000rpm on flat land. valves locked open at low rpm the engine is way to weak for the stock clutching.drag racers with the valves locked open are using high engaugement to get into the power band. maybe down a long hill it would get the revs up enuf to over come the lose in bottom end but on the flat mine couldn't.also i agree with mod srx if the pv's were not working you would be down on rpm's, i know mine loses 300-500 with one pulled through.

I really didn't feel liketrying it and now you confirm my fears.I am going to put everything back together and warm her up and run her on a stand to like 7000 to see if the srvo moves..don't want the track to fly off only...lolIf the servo moves, then next issue may be stator and coiuls to plug boots...

I know this is unlikely but if you can't find the problem it may be worth a try. I remember reading an article by Smokey Yunick years ago where he lost significant power on the dyno and couldn't figure out the problem; it turned out the headers used for that run had rust on the ID and caused the power loss. Identicle headers with no rust were tried and all the power came back. I realize the story applies to a 4 stroke but who knows as you've indicated that these are a different set of pipes and these pipes could have been sitting in an environment that was prone to rust? If you still have the old pipes you may want to stick them on and see if it makes any difference. Good luck with your search!

well this time it started up in 3 pulls instead of 4..Put sled outside on stand, warmed her up and reved it.The power valves are opening. The servo motor is turning..so 1 last thing to worry about.Going to take her out for a ride and see what if anything changed and go from there...

Looks like it got hot to me!! Test stator it is easy to do just need the ohm specs for each wire to wire combo. if that tests fine then test individual coils. if they are fine then check individual coil to plug cap wires. if they are fine check plug caps. if they are fine check voltage regulator. if that tests fine. test TP sensor. if that is fine then your cdi is the problem.
Do you have the service manual with all the electrical specs? I think it was mentioned here already about reeds but if not check for broken or out of spec reeds. There needs to be a specific gap when just sitting there. Reeds will really f with a motor.

If the cdi instant the problem light a match, or sell me your sled for cheap! Sorry blue I couldn't resist.
The others took the words out of my mouth but I am following your thread.....hope everything works out!GO BLUE ;)!

light a match and post on you tube a burning SRX..ya right!!Well took her out for a run and pinned it a little in the field and she reved up to 85-8700 instantly..I said to myself..something seems different here..SO..I pinned it again and..and..that screaming sound was back..no flat feeling..just instant arm pulling power....what the??

I knew something was different because it fired up on the third pull today, which has never happened before sitting for days.I had that ..oh maybe something has changed here feeling in my head, but probably wishfull thinking..lol

CDI looks normal, they encase the electrical circuits in silicone (potting is the tech term, i think), usually not completely like you see there.

So what fixed it? Im with Staggs on this one, suspense is killing me! lol
