I need to rant a bit!!

I bought a 98 SRX off a fellow member last spring seemed like a good deal and came with lots of extra parts. I never owned a SRX before, had a SXR for 1 year previous, but I tried to read up as much as possible before going to look at it and make a deal.
Did a compression test---was ok
Asked if it had stock jets---told yes
Was told the crank had been welded
Sled had a aftermarket can on it
Was told that the motor was all stock
Paid extra for a box of studs cause the track wasn't studded

I never had a chance to drive the sled because it was spring but brought it home and eventually started cleaning, painting and checking it out everything looked pretty good.

It all started to to go bad

Took the carbs off to clean them---Not stock jets
After leaning more--one head and cylinder is not a 98
Studs were way too long
STARTING TO WONDER WHAT I HAD GOTTEN INTO

Bought new studs..when installing them noticed the track says Artic cat (weird)
First time drive tonight runs pretty good but track is ratching
Put it up so I can look at the drive wheels, they are completely done and don't fit the track. Every revolution on the drive wheels I am off 9/16".
So now I need to find new drive wheels that will fit my newly studded track.
We now actually have a little snow and I am screwed.

Why can't people just be honest!!!!
Sorry to be so long winded but I am pretty pi$$ed.
That's all for now

Maybe I don't understand what you mean but I'm not sure if I understand how your drivers bieng shot makes them off 9/16" per rotation. You sure that track isn't a different pitch than the drivers? I would make sure about that first.

Sounds like you might have a 3.00 pitch track and 2.52 drivers.

Sounds right on the money with the pitch. Just for fun i google artic cat tracks and 99% on them came up with 3.0 pitch track. I bet thats your problem. CCC

yes sorry I have calmed down a little now

The drivers don't match the track
I will have to use actric cat drivers

sorry to steal thread, but there are a lot of dishonest people out there! if it comes to money its let the buyer beware! why cant people be honest anymore? it must make people feel good to skrew someone over!

The welded crank, and the words "motor is all stock" should have been your cue to turn around, and walk away.

x2. if someone has a stock motor they usually don't feel the need to reiterate it.

I agree to some point. It is not the SRX that is to fault it is the retarded previous owner that is to fault.
The welded crank was a Yamaha recall on the 98's so that has nothing to do with the motor all being stock.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong but as for the carb jetting I think I remember hearing the 98's were jetted kinda lean from the factory so if you put it back to stock I would probably fatten it back up some.
As for the track and driver issue. I know it will be alot of work but if it was me I would buy a new Yamaha SRX drive shaft, pull all your new studs out of the Arctic Cat track and find a good track with a 2.52 pitch and put your new studs in it.

The Crank update is something I'd like to know was done on a 98 SRX if I was looking to buy one!! Doesn't mean the motor is not stock. Jetting is something all us 2 stroke guys should be aware of and set up according to altitude and temperature. On the track issue. Do you have the model of the track? Confirm the pitch and drivers you have on it. Then we can make an educated assessment of the problem.

I found some cat drivers that will work. Now just the work

You will learn a ton on here
There are a bunch of great guys that have lots of knowledge

I think I got taken advantage of for sure
There is no way that the sled drove around with that track and drivers in it
Makes me wonder what else I will find or missed
All I hope is that the motor holds together

Title is nice and general. Just watch to not read into it with a personal edge attached. He def seems to of had an unhappy srx purchase. The srx is obviously a great sled if he is going through all of this to get it up to par. :o|

I may not share the same opinions as others on here but in my opinion you are just adding to the cobbled together sled by putting those Cat drivers in.
