they'll make something up. Headlight/ taillight was flickering, unsafe something or other. Just like the seatbelt law, just another reason to get you on the side of the road & check you out. freedom aint free, & most uf us can't afford it.

What other option do they have for enforcement? Hide behind a big tree out on the trail? That sounds dangerous. Let them be at major intersections and look at the sleds as they drive by for registration and permits. Stop them if they don't have proper display of stickers.

That was EASY to figure out for me !!!

I have to agree. ITs amazing how if your respecting the law and not drunk they seemed to be very fair. I was out on my boat this summer fishing and looked over to see a game warden looking at us with binnockulars. he came over and neither one of us had our fishing license papers with us since i just registered online that morning and didnt have a printer so I could nt print out a temp. He let me go through my phone and find the email that showed proof. He was a young fellow and was very polite. Just doing his job. I know this isnt the same situation but I say let them make the stops if it helps keep unsafe drunks off our trails.Nicko said:AMEN...Is not that hard is it ? Well it is for some people.

Funny that you mention respecting the law seeing the law clearly states in michigan the police can not set up random check points and stop everybody that passes by. So if they are not respecting the law where does that leave us? Whats next run your credit if your late on a house payment they can take your sled in lieu of payment?YAMAHIZAL700 said:I have to agree. I as well respect the law.....but when the LAW doesn't respect the LAW.......I'm w/ the captain.
It's like my dad always said......'Do as I say,not as I do'.

this is probly outside the realm of this post but in general, law enforcement it extremely overzealous and unwilling to listen to any reason. around here people can and do go to jail every weekend for going out to dinner and drinks with friends. not leaving the bar plastered at 2:00 am either. you do not have to be drunk to go to jail for drunk driving. and conservation officers are no better. just get done hunting? better not set that shotgun down on your tailgate, that constitutes a loaded, uncased weapon "IN A VEHICLE". and i'm not making this stuff up, it happens all the time. we live in a police state where you are guilty at the moment of citation. the 4th amendment has been thrown out the window. when the cops show up you have no input into the situation and your life is in the hands of a pissed off guy with nothing more than a 2 year degree from a community college. we need to stop apologizing for an out of controll police force.

This is odd, I was at the scene of the inspection area. The Conservation Officer did not appear to be doing anything wrong. I did not see anything different than what has been done in the past on the Caberfe trails system. I really did not feel out of sorts at all. If anything I felt more comfortable. This was not a total blockade of the trail in anyway. If you had the proper registration and permits, you really did not even come to a complete stop. We did stop and talked to the officer, but we were not forced to. This trail inspection maybe, maybe took 30 seconds from your ride. Now this is what I experienced, maybe others who might not have been properly permited or displayed it would have ended differently. Al

aslong as you dont have to stop then I would say there is nothing wrong. But I however have never been comfortable around police. Prolly because I have been harrased more then once. I live in a bigger city and maybe look a little white trashy.LOL Either way after past expiernces I am always nervous in their presence. Just a note I have no crimnal record.

That is the Best way to beat them! play by the rules and everything will be fine! they can stop me all day long but will not find anything wrong! I've been in Jail for DWI in Mi. on my sled after only 4 beers with dinner, i blew a .05 and still spent the night in jail when I wasn't even legally drunk. that was '03, nowadays, it's not a drop until the sled is parked and all stickers are current all the time!

Capt, I kindof know the feeling, I live in a small town, the police force used to two guys, everyone knew them. Now we have a full force somewhere around 10 guys and all very young. Last summer I was driving my old Corvette very slow around town, one of the officers stopped me for driving suspicisioly. Once he figured out I was not drunk, he actually asked to sit in the car. I responded, remove your guns, boots and anything else which is police uniform and you may. Guess what he did not. Now I am very worried anytime I drive our lifted Jeep or the Corvette. Al

lol... this happened to my uncle, we were deer hunting in Mi. he is missing a leg and had a disability permit so he was on a four wheeler. We were in the yard of the farmhouse getting ready to leave and DNR pulled in. his shotgun was on the front rack of the four wheeler loaded and uncased and she wrote him up because the key was in the machine. That was a little excessive!BigTimeFarmer said:this is probly outside the realm of this post but in general, law enforcement it extremely overzealous and unwilling to listen to any reason. around here people can and do go to jail every weekend for going out to dinner and drinks with friends. not leaving the bar plastered at 2:00 am either. you do not have to be drunk to go to jail for drunk driving. and conservation officers are no better. just get done hunting? better not set that shotgun down on your tailgate, that constitutes a loaded, uncased weapon "IN A VEHICLE". and i'm not making this stuff up, it happens all the time. we live in a police state where you are guilty at the moment of citation. the 4th amendment has been thrown out the window. when the cops show up you have no input into the situation and your life is in the hands of a pissed off guy with nothing more than a 2 year degree from a community college. we need to stop apologizing for an out of controll police force.

the problem here is that you didn't do anything wrong in the first place. instead of apologizing for the police, the public in general should stand up and quit paying for this type of law enforcment. we are the boss after all. those who give up liberty for security shall have neither.
