usfs police

I am still trying to find out what is going on with this,I have no problem with law checking my sled when I ride by,looking at the sticker's,what I have a problem with is stopping all sled's and asking for registration's,I don't drink and ride,I don't run stop sign's,I don't run 100 mph everywhere,It gives the local trail's a bad name, our club work's hard to keep the trail's safe and keep sledder's coming to the area to spend money, the local dnr (angie) does not do this, local sheriff, does not do this, our club just donated a camera to angie on her sled,I want the trail's to be safe and sleder's to have a good time in the area.it's about civil liberty's being taking away from some b.s usfs cop.I will keep you posted when I here,Dan

My thoughts exactly. I play by the rules, the authorities also have rules, is it really too much to expect them go to by them also?

AMEN!!! WELL SAID!!

I was riding in Bessemer Mi. last weekend when I slid past a stop sign about 8ft. At that stop sign was the Sherriff checking permits. I would have been OK
but a went past the stop sign. He told me to pull over & give him my license. At that point I knew I was getting a ticket. He told me there was no reason why I
could not stop at the sign instead of going beyond it. He was very polite & also was I. He told me he was going to run my license & see if there were any violations on it. After he ran my license he gave me a talk about stop signs & why we must obey them. He said since my license was clean he was going to give me a break. I thanked him a few times & went on my way. Very nice fellow.

My sister in law and her husband are both in law enforcment. Both are very honest good people. So I know that there are good cops. He also had a reason to talk to you this about stopping people with no just cause.

WELL Said, Gary!
That is the Best way to beat them! play by the rules and everything will be fine! they can stop me all day long but will not find anything wrong! I've been in Jail for DWI in Mi. on my sled after only 4 beers with dinner, i blew a .05 and still spent the night in jail when I wasn't even legally drunk. that was '03, nowadays, it's not a drop until the sled is parked and all stickers are current all the time!
I guess livin' in the woods you're not really privvy to whats going on in the "real world"... Mark is close enough to Chicago to know,,, ANYTIME anyone pulls you over with a BADGE and a PISTOL... THEY ARE RIGHT and YOU ARE WRONG !!! Thats the way it is..... There's NO NEED to fight,, you will LOSE !!!! BIGTIME.... I pray to the lord,, to let me FIGHT the battles that I am supposed to fight and the WISDOM to STAY AWAY from the battles that I cannot fight.. The POLICE are a battle that I CHOOSE not to fight... You are NOT GOING TO WIN and NO ONE will back you up when you choose to fight... There's a saying here in Chicago... it's "you can't fight CITY HALL"

It's called the AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION and they won't even take a case like that.. If they caused you a catastrophic failure as a direct result of them breaking the laws,,, THEN you MIGHT have a case,, but,, just hurting your feelings or BUSTING you for being F*CKED UP driving a snowmobile,,, well,, to tell you the truth,,,, I DONT BLAME THEM !!!! You wouldn't believe how many guys and girls I see DRINKING UP A STORM and then getting on a snowmobile... You SHOULD BE ARRESTED,,,,, Sorry if I offend anyone,, but,, TUFF !!!!

Dan, where exactly did you see the USFS officer? We noticed the Conservation officer on trail 3 just North out of town. She was NOT stopping everyone and asking for registations, she WAS closely watching all machines for proper registration. I am just curious where you saw the usfs officer. Al

Im not defending drunk driving at all. However how does that equate to me being stopped? Please explain why I should just lay down because your willing to?

What other option do they have for enforcement? Hide behind a big tree out on the trail? That sounds dangerous. Let them be at major intersections and look at the sleds as they drive by for registration and permits. Stop them if they don't have proper display of stickers.

I have actually seen them stopped on the side of the trail with their hoods up, so as to sucker you into stopping to help. Watch out for that one if you're riding around and not 100% legal.

It's better to give them their way.. (kinda like fighting with my wife).. What does it hurt??? Is it breaking laws???? Everybody breaks laws ( just so you know).. Even the people who uphold the laws.. Is it right???? Is a LOT OF THINGS RIGHT????? It's better just to take it and biTcH about it on TOTALLYAMAHA than take it up with a guy with a pistol that has the authority to LOCK YOU UP and cost you a BUNCH OF MONEY just for PiSSinG HiM OFF !!!!

al,they were parked at trail 3 ,where it cross's us-10,they parked for several hour's,k-9 unit,I came back by there a couple hour's later and they still were checking sled's around 1:00p.m(ish)they were talking to a couple other sleder's and I shot past them going south, did not bother to stop, and they just looked over at my wife and i,and another couple riding with us.by the way,I don't live in the wood's,I live in grand rapid's,just spend my weekend's up there.it's not about me!about the sport that I love and die for,I work all the msa event's and club event,my daughter is out of the house and I have a wife that love's the sport as much as me,we have put almost 2000 miles this year and suck's it just melted down.

I know everybody breaks the law so please dont patronize me. The couple times that I have been hassled I tried invoking my rights was then told I would be arrested if I didnt tell them what they wanted or mind my own bussisness. At which point I would give them my id and go on my way when they had nothing on me. When I got home I simply contacted their sgt. and let him know didnt file a written complaint just followed up with another call the next day. My son has been stopped in a neighboring suburb and told to stay in his own city he didnt recieve any citations. Guess the cop just didnt like his looks. We also called on one of his friends that was hassled while he was walking. So no TY is not the only place I vent.

Mabey we should go back to one resturant for the cops and one for the citizens, one drinking fountain for the cops and one for the citizens, one bathroom for us and another for the cops.

I ask everyone................whats the difference between then..........and now.

I'm only guessing, but I figure that some have out sourced their freedoms so often that laying down and scratching just comes natural.

Anyhow, we had three MDNRE Conservation Officers on the river last weekend checking registrations and trail permits. I talked with two of them and asked about the trail permit related to public waterways. Seems if you knew the law (they seemed to) you could ride without a trail permit, you just needed the give them the right answer. Kind of annoying but since ignorance is no excuse, reading the laws about snowmobiling in Michigan only seems natural.

They were looking and stopping for trail permits and registrations; I had both and wasn't stopped.

Since my bro was out joy riding with his wife on my sled, I ended up giving the numbers of the jerk-wad that nearly took out my kid Saturday to one of the two black COs. They promised to give him a call and remind him of the 100ft. rule. I thanked them for being out and about.

This was one of many of my contacts with DNR law enforcement...

Seems to me - having to put stickers on my sled precludes being pulled over for... making sure I have stickers!

Please don't take this wrong Mike, but I'm guessing the only time one would see a CO on the side of a trail with the hood up is on a public trail that registrations and trail permits pay for, so....

If one ain't legal in that regard than they're no better than a common poacher and they don't deserve a heads up.

I do have a problem with folks that genuinely don't ride a public trail like a river/waterway or roadway (i.e. never sees a groomer) yet still must buy a $35.00 trail permit. But since they're such a small minority that'll never change.

I saw that cute DNR gal

I was telling my buddies about the good looking DNR gal stopping every1.
Not sure were she was at but I was headed south on my way from portage lake to GR.
She was in a spot next to the road in (never land) that if you came running up on her there was no way to turn around or evade without looking out of place. She had a whole line of sleds stopped.. I asked my buds about this thinking it was very odd,,,and illegal,,,They said they had never seen anything like that before...
this must be happening often 4 so many to have seen her
I do not think it,s right for her to do that. ,,Seem like an illegal search?
cheers

Did she motion you to stop?

btw - a federal immigration officer can insist on seeing your identification at any time without probable cause. Kinda made the whoopla over Arizona's immigration law so silly... especially the AG's pursuit of injunction to stop it's enforcement.

Dan, the spot you are talking about is the same spot I saw the Conservation officer. Just North of Hwy 10 We were running the gas line at one time. At one time we saw a State officer parked at the trail 3 hwy 10 crossing. We just waved and crossed as normal. Al
