Hey Guys, I finally purchased a 77 SRX. Looking for @ 3yrs on and off. It is a little rough but is mostly complete. I need a airbox and few other things. Sled was raced and put away about 12-15yrs ago. Had mod pipes that exit out the right footwell and a new cleated track and crank when it was put away. It will be delivered to my house in mid March. I will post a few of the pics I have they are not that good but it is all I have. Thanks, any parts to get it nice again would be appreciated.

Thanks guys, I tried to upload pics but file size is too big. I will resize and get them up today. Will post more pics once the sled arrives as well. I am more exited about this sled than when I bought my new F1000! Brad

OK I got the pics uploaded. If I need to replace the belly pan, is the 77 the same as exiter/gpx and other SRX's? I know they don't all have the air vents up front and stock exhaust on the 77 SRX exits at the right front, this one has pipes though as you can see.

Have -77 airbox if needed.

Thanks Reimond looked at your posts awhile ago and you have a real nice 77, just beautiful. WHat do you want for the airbox? Thanks Brad

Thanks, I will be getting spare 8f2 cylinders with it and gearsets/chains as well. Clean the carbs when I get it and fire it up before I tear it down. I think there is a couple spare primarys as well. Are the date coded as well with 8f2? I know the cylinders are 8f2. What will the motor # be? Will it match the VIN on the tunnel or at least the last 4-5 digits?

Motor and frame # will be 8F2-012101 or greater. 8F2-012102 etc. Let us know what it is. Awesome that you got extra parts!

The title/ownership and Stamping on tunnel is 8F2-XXXXX I misplaced the paperwork that I wrote down but will post the chassis and engine # when it arrives.

Thank's Brad,

What i can see from your pictures, you have stock pipes in it. I think this is good because they work fine and will be more valuable than mod pipes. You just missing the stock muffler. I have that for you also.

Will PM some prices.

OK, the engine # is RX440 000660 Is this a issue? Is it the orig engine or is it a 76? The JUGs are 8F2's (both sets)

Sorry, the sled just got delivered about 30 minutes ago I will get pics soon. Thanks for your help Reimond and Dynofun.

Ok I copied this from other posts which makes me more confused. What is RX440??? The one posts states there was a variety of prefix's in 76?? Since the last 3 digits of the chassis is 538 and the engine is 660 could it be original? the heads and jugs are 8F2

DEAN, THATS CORRECT. WHAT YA HAVE IS A 78 OR 79 LOWER CASE. NOW WHAT I WAS GETTING AT WAS IS THE CRANKSHAFT THERE WITH CASE. AFEW THINGS TOO REMEMBER. IN 1978 YAMAHA WENT TO LARGER CRANK RODS, LARGER WRIST PINS, AND DON,T FORGET THE LARGER STUD BOLTS. ALSO, IN 1978, YAMAHA ADDED GROMITS TO THE RECOIL AND THE UPDATED CRANK BALANCER TO HELP WITH HIGH RPM VIBERATION. THIS KIT WAS ALSO AVAILABLE IN 1979. NOW, IN 1980, THE VIBERATION PROBLEM WAS OVER BECAUSE THE CRANKSHAFT WAS ACTUALLY ALITTLE DEFFERENT BECAUSE THE OIL INJECTION PUMP DROVE OFF IT. YAMAHA THAN WENT BACK TO STANDARD RECOIL HOUSEING LIKE THE 76/77. ALSO, REMEBER IF YA SEE A 80, LOOK AT THE HOUSEING BEHING THE RECOIL. YOU WILL SEE THE COIL BRACKET THAT WAS USED ON THE 76 AND 77 SRX. ONLY THING IS YAMAHA MOUNTED COIL ON AIR BOX. ALTTLE BIT OF INFO FOR YA !! 3:16 (tony)

Now everthings coming togerther. I have a 79 with that housing. One more question. In 76 they had two different numbers for each motor? RX 338, RX 340, RX 433 and RX 440. WHY? I thought I knew everything about these girls years ago. It started 22 years ago and I'm still learning. Bought my first 80 srx in 1984 and was racing against a 77 and got my butt kicked at the end of the race day in the final. I bought that 77 two weeks later. Thanks for your help Tony and stop by some time. I'm right on your way going up north. Dean-o

DEAN, MATTER OF FACT WAS GONNA HEAD TO THE MOOSE TODAY BUT DECIDED I JUST COULD NOT MAKE IT BECAUSE OF PLAINS TONIGHT. IF I LIVED WHERE YOU WERE, WOW!! I BE THERE EVERY WEEKEND lol !! ANYWAYS, TO TELL YA THE TRUTH, I ALSO HAVE SEEN THOSE DEFFERENT ENGINE NUMBERS. I SEEN THAT ALOT ESPECIALLY ON THE 76 340 SRX. IF YOU REMEBER IN THE YAMAHA SERVICE MANUALS, YAMAHA WOULD TELL YA THE NUMBERS MIGHT BE OFF BY AFEW. ANYWAYS DUDE, HOOK UP WITH MARK AND I THIS SUMMER AY AFEW SHOWS. WE ALWAYS BRING A COOLER FULL OF POPS!!! 3:16 (tony)

I found this and it doesn't help. Maybe it is a 76

It actually is stamped RX440 on the mag housing? It should be RX439-012538 to be #'s matching.

Yes I checked it 2 or 3 times, no doubt RX440 Factory stamping, not someone with letter punches either. I will get a pic if you read the other posts I guess 76 used multiple prefixes
