As some of you have seen i just got a killer deal on a 02 viper for $1500 for my daughter. Saw it on c-list for $2000 earlier this week and thought whats wrong with it. Then on fri i saw the guy droped the price to $1500. Well now its worth my time to check it out. Turns out i got a diamond in the rough. Engine, hood, seat, track, most eveything is in great shape. Worst part is some rust on front end trailing arms. Compression is spot on, engine only has 3200mi on it. Track in great shap. Only problem is a sl clunck driving slow under power. Best i can tell is a bad bearing in chain case. Thought it was belt but new belt didnt help. Drive has a sl wobble while turning on chain case side. Will be tearing down any way and i have all those parts extra so no cost their. This sled will get torn down for the most part for inspection and grease where needed. Crank seal and boots, reeds, and such checked out fine so probably wont touch engine. Just the usuall carb clean and stuff. Couldnt wait, some work from today

Well we got the engine fogged and shut down for summer. Here is what we have planned for this viper. Take off trailing arms and rods for new paint. Will have rods covered with Pink covers and pink shock covers. Hood screens will also be pink to match. Hood is perfect so only needs a good polish. belly pan needs trim yet. Will take the chain case apart and will get reverse. E start also. Will take drive out and get the track out. Tracks in great shape but studs are shot so we will cut those out and put 120 new down the middle. Will also get pink hand guards and i have a extra windshield so were gonna try and cut it down and paint it pink. So far thats it. Heres a few pic's working on the ski's, which of coarse were rusted on so new bolts will be needed. Let her have a try on the impact wrench, not bad i must say for first go! Having fun. Chris

Replace that SPEEDO SIDE BEARING while your at it. Picked up an ALL BALLS speedo side kit last summer. Came with seals and everything. Was only @ $35. Cheap insurance.

Got into it today!

Well while the daughter was as school i tore into the drive. To my surprise i found nothing wrong all the way to the bearings. Maybe some dirt in the chain case drive bearing and the chain was loose but no reason for the sl clunck i heard when i bought it. But i will be replacing them all since its all apart. The chain was pretty loose would that cause my mystery clunck? All bearings were rust free and tight. But on to the work at hand. Have everything apart and inspected all looks good but for being very dirty. I guess thats what you get for 9 years of neglect. I could tell the engine had never been touched. Carbs nothing. The tps wire was still routed as original. Carbs dont look bad though. I also didnt notice the rear heat exchanger, nice!!! Here are some pic's. CCC

Some daughter work.

When she got home we did some stuff she's been waiting for. Pink to the screens. I got to say as far as pink goes they turned out good. This thing is gonna be way cool when done. Was thinking about powder coating the screens but would hate to paint over them when she changes her colors again. Just rattle can so easy to change. Oh i was told thats her work close. I dont know, LOL Chris

Just messed around a bit today

We just finnished some projects we started yesterday. Got the seat off, bolts were rusted on so it took a bit of work. Cleaned seat up inside and out, put a nice polish on the hood and touched up a few scratches. Got the windshield done also. We cut it down and wet sanded the inside. Put a few light coats of paint on the inside and replaced the trim. Elizabeth thought it turned out really cool and i must agree. Here's a few pics and one of elizabeth and me, she thought i looked grumpy but im just a bit tired. Thanks for all the great comments, were having fun. Chris

Working on front end

Well over my work weekend i messed around here and their. Today i finnished. Got the front end tore down. Did have to cut one of the control arm bolt off but otherwise it went good. Other than the 1 darn exhaust stud everything has went great. Daughter was off of school today so we finnished up the front end. Got 8" of snow and every sled was fogged and tucked away so did the next best thing. I know, thought about it but didnt want to go through resummerizing (made that word up). Few pics

control arms

Well the bottom control arms were a hair bent and messed up as i thougt, The ones he painted blue. I got them pretty straight, and am going to use them. The trailing arms are pretty rusted but look in good shape. Just need a nice new paint job.

Parts

The sled as far as im going to tear it down is in box's now. Got to wait for warm weather to clean the belly of the beast. Now we can get our wanted list together. Look for us in the wanted section. Here is a few things elizabeth picked out so far. The white shock covers say girls rule.

Here's that damn exhaust stud bolt. I going to take the jug off to try and get a better hold on it and go from their. Man this has been a thorn in my side so far. Chris

Got the suspension tore down and im pretty sure i found my clunking noise. The top w arm shaft is wore down on the ends, worse on the chain case side. W arm bushings were totally gone. Pretty sure it was moving and causing my clunck under load at slow speeds. Once again never a thing greased on this skid. Some of the shafts were rusted. Everything will get cleaned, greased and shimmed.
