Which of these sleds is more reliable,
which has more power
I intend on taking the Sled in these conditions.
I personally have never been to the mountains with my mtn viper but do plan on going on the 24th. But I ride my sled pretty hard and like deep snow and jumping drifts etc and have never had an issue with my sled its been great. Doesn't handle the best in the trails thats my only complaint.
ALso, I can't tell you to much about how a moded viper is vs a stock because I have only ridden it for a few hours since I modded it. But, so far it seems like a night and day difference on the power stand point. One thing I can say so far is temp change does effect the performance a lot with the pipes that's all I have gathered so far.

You could probably find a seriously tweaked MM with all the goodies already done to it for the price you'd find a newer stock Mtn Viper. And IMO, the MM would be more reliable. But, if you're looking for a project...all things being equal, you'll get more ponies out of the viper in the end for the same $$ invested.

viper, only advantage about the mountain max is no power valves to clean
I see that one picture all the time. My Yamaha parked by a Ski Doo with the hood open.

I'm gonna get one and ome gloves for serious sled trips, I already got it picked out, but its really warm here where I ride (+5 to -5 on average) and I have sponsers for snowboarding so the outerwear is taken care of for me and the Photos are how I get hooked up, besides I just destroy jackets, snowpants, and Snowboards so Im glad I got Frends supporting my crazy cause.
But lets be realistic is Snowboard outerwear as strong as Sledding outerwear?
Hell's No!!! Cant wait to get my Yamaha Jacket!!!

Yeah And i have returned from the Backcountry with the 10 Commandments of Backcountry Sledding!!!
Ten commandments of Mountain Sledding
1. Know the current avalanche forecast for your riding area of choice.
2. Have a plan for your riding terrain based on the avalanche forecast. Higher avalanche danger = simpler terrain.
3. Have a Plan “B” for simpler terrain if avalanche conditions are at all questionable. If in doubt always choose simpler terrain.
4. Ensure everyone in your group has properly working and stowed recovery gear.
5. Only one sled on the hill at a time.
6. Watch or gather in safe areas only, never in avalanche run out zones or terrain traps.
7. Always pay attention to terrain above and the snow conditions as you move through areas.
8. If passing across an avalanche path expose only one rider at a time.
9. Gather frequently in safe areas, and discuss your route and observations.
10. See others in unsafe situations, speak up.

Finnally got some visability and Im back out there testing out the Apex in conditions that are unimaginable!!!
I Didnt Even feel the landings on these drops with my new evol-x suspention.
The Seasons just getting started for me, I also demo'd the New 2013 Ski-Doo Summit XM 154 and the Freeride this week. Oh Boy where to start...
Within 20 mins of entering the backcountry, poor visability and I threw the Sled in the Brandywine Creek, the Bars were loose and they came forwards and smashed the windshield .....WOW. In 3 years of riding this area I never put my Yamaha sleds in the creek, and here I am 20 mins into a demo tour and Im already wrecking there there Prototype sled. Anyways they werent pissed and I walked it off and kept riding, then another guy on the tour put one of the New 2013 XM into a 12 foot Crevis, any way I recorded it by accident, heres the footage its kinda funny, anyway, Im Staying On my Apex its feels alot more solid. I did really like there new tunnel design the running boards are awesome.

you will have to test ride a Polaris RMK sled..they are supposed to be awesome I hear,guys are switching over from Yami to them and luv them,a lot lighter as well..food for thought..

Alot of my Friends that are on the 2012 RMK regret buying it and like the Turbo Nytro and XP better. I Personalty have No interest riding the New RMK or Cats. Next on the List to ride is the New Turbo Nytro.
My Apex is a hard sled to top, after being on that reliable 4-stroke you wont want to ride anything else and I wont get rid of it, but I would be interested to pick up a 2012 Ski-doo Summit E-Tec 154 for carving in trees and Jumping, but even then I would still spend more time on my Apex.

2013 summit looks like a gingers crack but its supposed to be the best for tree riding this year. plus it has 169hp now

something to do with the Accel it kicks in sooner and smoother, it really seems to gain more traction in deep powder when navigating your way through technical trees, where normally you would dig in and get stuck. I can confirm this, I tested it and its the best tree riding sled I have ever riden.
And it has a great power band.
Why am I not Buying it???
-Chasis felt nimble and weak compared to the apex, dosent have the fir and finish.
-engines really very depending on how many km are on them, theres good and bad ones.
-suspension and lightness of this sled made my body take all the impact from rollers and jumps whoops etc. I really didn't like this.
Honestly I enjoyed this sled more than any other sled I have tested.
But its not enough to get me off Yamaha anytime soon.
