Worst Winter Ever

OMG, clearly you were not riding trails. I was wonder where you found snow before when the entire province was Red listed south of North Bay. LOL

I've bounce off a few obstacles in my day but backed on so I can ride other days. Clearly your clan has taken it to a new level. My machines were old because it was a long time ago but the damage remain throughout their life.

Good thing you all walked away. Riding off cliffs is a no no (what is sounds like).

PS: If that is your driving thumb that broke. Well it will slow you down and give the brain pain for thought processing. Wow

Well, interesting ride to say the least. Too much air and not enough landing strip.
Landing in the bottom of a ravine with a crick was rough. Almost vertical climb on the other side meant a nasty impact was inevitable, but I managed to slide the srx sideways enough to not hit full on. The srx found it's way down downstream while I was ejected into the hillside tree's. My choice to bail out rather than take the impact. The bumper and ski's tore into the embankment taking a gouge out and leaving chunks of dirt and clay all over sled.
She was sittin cock-eyed on some rocks and still running when I got to her. Yanked and pulled to get er pointing up stream and rode er out.
Rev and Nytro didnt fair so well. Rev being much lighter and driver also much lighter managed to plow through the invert where the Nytro just kind of blew apart. Rev was twisted up and tore a suspension bolt right through the chassis along with a spring dislodged and turned sideways and a idler missing we never did find. The Nytro's many cowling pieces just blew off and nothing is salvageable. Still one headlight hanging around though. Suspension faired pretty well and even rode good coming home.
A couple ratchet straps, rope and some redneck pry bars scavenged from the woods, all sleds rode out of there and home.
Of course I tended to my buddies before retrieving my sled. One broken thumb and some bumps and bruises is all.
SRX is seemingly unscathed. Even gave her a bath in the stream. I was wet already, why not. ;)!
After some pounding, pushing and pulling along with a little fabbing and welding, were ready to hit the trails again today. Nytro looks naked, but parts will be ordered. That thing has been rolled, sunk in the swamp, caught on fire and now this. Tough year so far for the Nytro, but so far, tough sled. ;)!

:worth:

3 Degrees Celsius and rain expected later today. District 9 still has some trails closed and 90% limited. What a bad winter for that area.

ha!! -36 C windchills here now and -43 C windchills tonight and a blizzard. They shut down the Hwy by my place now...also snowing..we have a good batch of snow already, all this extra is just icing on the cake..maybe we will be sledding into April this year....

No danger of the machine overheating or the rider for that matter. The focus would be to keep it running and moving while not breaking things like 95rxl650 and his clan. LOL no fun when you go numb in a few minutes at those temp. Are you riding alone out there BLUE?

Cell phone and/or two way radio is a must as well just in case. I used to carry a big portable 3 watt CB radio under my jacket while cruising trails and lakes in Haliburton years ago. Cell phone only just started coming years later but coverage was spotty. Never worked where you needed it to work. CB always did!! Now there is GFRS micro weight in comparison to the oh 2lb brick I carried.

yes I carry my wife's cell with me when I go out..Riding alone is great,I don't have to follow someone's snow dust..find that is crap, unless I am in the lead of course.

Oh, well she can't leap in you truck/car and come get you. LOL

Have you checked that there is coverage in key areas with the cell phone. The carriers used to and still focus on main areas and key roadways. I never trusted it going alone when I was in haliburton, Ontario. 90% no service or signal insufficient to complete a ring through let alone talk. I'd have to walk to a hot spot somewhere.

Cheers ... cool running Blue. Tow a back sled!

thing is after all these years, somewhere like 10 years already,my yami;s have never left me stranded anywhere.Always come home 1 piece..so not o concerned.I wouldn't go like 100 miles or more from my comfort zone unless with others along.Yami's are reliable as long as you maintain them properly and prevent any break downs.

I dont know where you guys are trying to ride in district 9 that has no trails, but def not around here. I can ride for 2 days and not see the same trail.

My bud that torqued his thumb doesnt think it's broke. It's black and blue and sore, but we flipped his throttle to pull. He's good to go. ;)!
Fender bender was on smooth groomed and hard pack. I'd say perfect.
Those SLOW signs are the problem. So many of them and I always wonder what I was supposed to slow down for. I started thinking they meant keep around 50mph and it's all good. Well.......not this one.
I could see the trail in the distance, just couldnt see the ravine.
There are a few cell phone pics, but video would have been much better. ;)!
Minor stuff really. Just another day bushwackin.
No deathwish Blue, just the way we ride. I wasnt joking when I said I'm usually the last owner of my toys. lol
Buddy with the thumb usually breaks bones every year, so he's thrilled not to be riding with a cast......yet. ;)!

I ride Durham, Markdale, Mt. Forest, Feversham, Hanover, Owen Sound area. All limited right now. Those trails involve plenty of road so they are useless to me. The farm backs onto a trail that is partially closed. A real joke actually. Going uo next Monday probably for the last run.

Thats true, there is a fair amount of road running down that way. Never to far though. At 80mph, by the time the hyfax heat up enough to cause drag your at the next trail. Were a little tough on our equipment I suppose.
I guess we have enough snow to entice us to ride, but if you care about keeping your sled nice, it's not great riding.
You can always come ride with us. It's not for everyone, but it sure is fun.
We prefer night riding for obvious reasons. In the day time we ride responsibly.
Our group has a wide age range, from early thirties to us old guys at 50.

We have all sleds back up and ready, but just got out for a testing ride.
We also resurrected a buddies 98 xlt special. Ripped it down to the bones and just need a few things before we can put the carbs and clutches back on. ;)!

Yep, looks pretty grim. Rained all night.
Main roads are bare, no shoulders left, and side roads are a skating rinks.
All buses were canceled around here today due to the rural roads.
Now the temp is back to zero and there's a light snow falling. Calling for light snow for the next 48 hours, but not much accumulation.
I think by tomorrow, maybe even tonight, you'll start to see atleast yellow again. Good enough for me and my ol srx. With only about 1200 miles this season, it may last me another year provided I dont get her caught up in a tangle. ;)!

I went up to Emsdale, just past Hunstville to the cottage for family day. My brother and I were probably the first ones out sunday and monday. Freshly groomed trails ya just cant beat. They got a little bit more snow than us....but not much. Enough to make all the trails green I suppose. Had a great weekend! We put on about 400km over the 2 days of riding. Got on some 2 car wide groomed trails on sunday (just as I ran out of memory space on the gopro) and it was a blast!!! Really fast trail.

Glad to hear your getting some seat time in. ;)! We only got a few inches of new snow overnight here, but it's still coming down. How about you?
Who got all the snow last night?
Ya, some of those trails up north are nice. Years ago we had a couple trips that were like bobsledding. Wide groomed trails with banks so high you couldnt go off trail if you tried. Logged more miles in the air than on the ground.

We definitly got some new snow, maybe 3-4". When we were leaving the cottage yesterday, I couldn't see the island 200-300ft away from us it was snowing so hard! Got about 4" in the 2hrs it took to pack the truck up. And it was still snowing hard after we left. So maybe they got it....not sure though. Those trails were awesome though! My brother said it reminded him of quebec....only less snow and really small trails. lol Supposedly 5-6 groomers wide out in quebec!!! No banks to save ya either, they had over 100mm of rain after we got dumped on that Friday afternoon. And it screwed the trails...we have more snow down here in some spots. Whats up with that? Normally theres over 3ft on the deck when we go up on family day....not this year. lol About 4". We hit so much air going down a hydro line I thought one of us was breaking something for sure! I snapped my other ski handle, took out 3 of the 4 rivets holding on the belly pan. Bent the bars way down to the point I couldn't steer. Ya there was a few hard landings! lol old girl took a pounding....felt bad for her!

Well I finally got out this weekend. 1st on the free try our trail weekend we did some machine breakin test riding making sure everything was work. One wasn't. Track hifax overheating, chaffing etc as well as the machine a bit overflowing coolant. After some investigate I fixed the overheating on the trail and the hifax issue back at the cottage.
Futher test run proved it was ok. The running was on frozen snow from thaws and rains. Very rough riding and no lubrication.

We trailer south of District 3 North of Belleville and picked up a trail there surprising was green through all the BS weather we'd had. It was rain again the way up and when we got close it turned to snow. There had bee about 3-4" of heavy snow on the trails there as well as further up. We eventually hooked up to the E108 and went as far as we could, looking at the time we wanted to get back by dark and turning around at Kaladar Hwy 7 & 41) we just made it. By the time we go loaded again it was dark.

We finished off the ride with a massive rack of ribs at Montana's Belleville and headed home with extra ribs sticking out in a good way. Well I've got about 263k on my sled this weekend and a good 140km of it on great trails which a flat smooth. We're hoping it holds out until next weekend and give it another run up there.

Good to hear. There's snow and trails to ride, but winters seem to be getting worse for sledding. No point fighting it, just ride when you can.

Dont feel bad Cooper, they love the abuse. Ride, break fix. It all makes me smile. Sounds like you ride like we do. lol
Snowed all day here and it's still snowing, but I'm not sure how much we got.
Started resurrecting my buddies ol' 98 xlt special a couple days ago and had to wait for parts. We had a tunnel with motor in it today when we started rounding up parts and the rest was in buckets and plastic containers. We cranked the clutches on and he rode it to my place for a torque wrench just a little while ago.
Always liked that sled. Absolutely bullet proof.
